I believe this is from Monterey Pop Festival in Monterey CA 1967. That was Janis' coming out party, her intro to a big audience. Jimi Hendrix was at the same event for his first broad exposure to a US audience. Jimi and The Who appeared back to back. The WHO tore up the stage during their show, so Jimi had to top it. He burned his strat as a finale.

Also, the screaming, while great for getting out anger and pain, would have ruined Janice' voice in a few short years. I loved Janice and Big Brother And The Holding Company.
