Oh, yes. This is that musical chicken soup I was talking about that makes you feel better (hope you do!). There's a good live performance of this too that you might want to see. As for the love/hate factions about Janis I just liken it to this...some people can look at a beautiful sunset out over the ocean or the mountains & it will stop them in their tracks to stop & soak it in because it makes them feel something in their soul. Others will barely glance at it & keep on doing whatever they're doing without feeling a thing. Just a difference in people & their perceptions. I'm just grateful to be in the first category & a lifelong Janis fan. So happy you became a fan too.💙☮💙

100% this is also my favorite of hers. All though it’s a cover from The Chantels “Maybe” (doo wop), Janis made it her own lyrically and instrumentally. It showcases her voice beautifully and the band killed it!

Another great Janis reaction. You’re spot on. This is one of my “go to” songs to have any Janis naysayer listen to. You’re right - the control in her vocal is a thing of beauty; this is from 1969, her first year at a solo career and a then “soul” music band; this is the strongest, cleanest use of brass out of that time. There are live versions of this but they don’t come close to this studio achievement. It’s tops.

@@robertphelps1574 Thanks for the link. I took a listen and I liked. Then at the end I realized it was live. Impressive. I learned about Maggie Bell when I was looking at vinyl albums on the Goodwill auction site. I had never heard from her and checked her out on KZfaq. I like what I heard and bided on the lot. I didn't win, but it did introduce me to Maggie Bell. Not I have to keep an eye out for Jo Anne Kelly. I hope you don't mind me asking, but what part of the world are you from?

I just watched the nicest documentary about Janis a couple nights ago, titled "Little Girl Blue" I came across on KZfaq. It was the most true to her life that I have seen and it's was real honost about her on and off use of drugs, but didn't make it the main focus of her life. Music was what she lived for and she worked hard to be heard and loved for her talent. Check it out, it's worth it if you love her music. ♡

Although there are many other female vocalists I love, with voices like angels - JANIS is my #1 all time favorite. No one sings like Janis (except Steve Marriott!) with such depth, emotion, and deep SOUL. When she sings blues, the pain just oozes out of her. Beth Hart is the only one in my opinion who comes close. I agree that this song is a masterpiece. The production is first class and Janis sings beautifully. I love so many of her songs, I can't say which is my favorite. Thank you Chod for such a wonderful flashback Saturday. Each song has been a great pleasure. Sorry you have been unwell. Hope you feel better soon.

@@robertphelps1574 Thank you for the link, Robert. I did listen to Jo Ann Kelly and was pleasantly surprised. I have never heard of her and intend to research her further. She sounds like an old Delta bluesman. Now Maggie Bell, I have heard of, but admittedly had not listened to her yet. So I just watched 3 videos and again was very surprised by her performance. She sings in the style of Janis and Steve, but IMO is lacking something that the others have that makes them extra special -less soulful maybe? No disrespect though - she is an excellent singer. Again, I would like to delve into some historical background. I was also surprised to see that her guitarist was the late Jimmy McCulloch- small world as he later played with Marriott when he reformed Small Faces (briefly). Thanks again for setting me off on another interesting path. I just love the blues...

I wonder what you would think about Maggie Bell. I'm not comparing her to Janis, but when I first heard Maggie sing, I thought of you might like her. Maggie Bell is a from the other side of the pond. I don't know how popular she was here in the US, and I don't know how popular Janis was in the UK. Maybe someone can tell me. But Someone else comment with Stone the Crows "Danger Zone", which was the band Maggie Bell sang with.
