You need to listen to her Ball and Chain song at Monterey Pop-that is where she became known. I lived in the Bay Area when I was in elementary and middle school and got to see her perform at Golden Gate Park in 1966 before she and her band became famous; lots of bands were on the cusp of stardom in the Bay Area like Jefferson Airplane and Credence Clearwater. It was an amazing music scene. Janis grew up in Port Arthur, TX were she was bullied relentlessly in school for her looks. She escaped to the Bay Area to sing. She is also a member of the 27 Club, stars who died at the age of 27 (Hendrix, Jim Morrison of the Doors, Amy Winehouse). Her short career lives on with young people like you discovering her. Loved your reaction.

@@zoran1896 she made polyester stretch knit bell bottoms, pump heel slides and mood rings fashionable with that performance at Monterrey '67 and Southern Comfort, it's rumored that was Southern Comfort in the thermostat jug that was rolling on the stage around her pump heel slides. Arguably the greatest rock performance ever. It launched her into the stratosphere.

Janis was a game changer. She broke all the rules. They told her to dress up, wear a dress, she didn't listen. She didn't wear makeup. She sang music in a style that other white women didn't dare. She sang about sex. She screamed and stomped her feet and sang in that raspy voice. Men at that time were doing it, women were not. Until Janis.

New to your channel & loving your reactions!!! If you like jazz or the blues, I would love you to check out this young lady, who started singing jazz at the age of 2, and is now 13, and has her own record deal......she is one of the most amazing voices I ever heard, & I first saw her on America's got talent, when she was 13, then followed her career, back to when she won Norway's got talent at the age of 7, to her new release, Million Miles, at the age of 13. I would suggest starting with one of her earliest performances, of I've got a spell on you, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pN12n9J0tb7ec6c.html then work your way up to more recent ones....
