Yes that was Mama Cass. No one knew Janis before this performance. It was her introduction to the world and the look on MC's face says it all. A voice like no other. Much love to the band also. Big Brother and the Holding Co. were phenomenal. Suggestions....."Summertime" and "Cry Baby".

Thank you for your review. JJ was a one-off -- no one else like her, ever. The studio version of Move Over is amazing. She brought that raw passion to work with her wherever she was, and you get that even in her studio recordings.

I'm sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Listening to his favorite singers is a lovely way to honor his memory. I loved your reaction to "Ball & Chain," and yeah, Janis's vocals were out of this world. If you want to learn more about her as a person, I recommend the documentary "Little Girl Blue". As for my favorite Janis Joplin song... well, it's less showy and more mainstream than most of hers, but I'll always love "Me and Bobby McGee" for its wistful melancholy.

Firstly, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. Like your dad, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix were my two favorites when I was in high school and they were still alive. Still are two of my top all-time favorites. It makes me so happy to see young people discover her artistry and magnificence and get off on it just like we did back in the day. I met all the guys from this band Big Brother and the Holding Company and spent a whole night with them with a mutual friend, unfortunately by that time Janis was gone and I didn't get to meet her. I do have a note that she wrote and signed framed as well as three of her original concert posters from San Francisco. One of my lifelong best friends to this day knew Janis very well in San Francisco and has some great stories. Anyway, loved your reaction and best of luck with your channel.

Sorry to hear about your dad. He was obviously a man of good musical taste. I was fortunate enough to see Janis about three months before she died and it remains on of the best shows I have ever seen. As good as this is (and it certainly put her on the map) the live version on the Big Brother album Cheap Thrills is actually better! There's no video I'm aware of but it is well worth your time checking out. There are a bunch of You Tube videos of her on the Dick Cavett Show where she gives some of her best video performances. All great stuff.

Your channel just popped up in my feed, I'm your 948th subscriber lol - I hit the sub button as soon as you described your reasons for wanting to jump into the Janis rabbit hole. Seeing people diving into music just to broaden their musical horizons is amazing in its own right, but your reasons for doing so; doubly amazing! And then you said your Dad suddenly passed on January 25th...which is my birthday. Oddly enough, Janis & Jimi are two of my favourite artists (they're a part of my musical 'home', my foundation. I remember the first time I ever heard both of them, and I knew that, in music, I'd found my first true love in this life.) I think your Dad and I would have had a lot in common, musically speaking (I hope that doesn't come across as weird in a creepy way.) I'm so very sorry to hear that you lost one of the most important people in your life this year...I wish I had the right words to lift the pain from your soul. I just want to say thank you for honouring your Father in this way, and thank you for reaching out to the music for your own personal healing. Much love, from Australia xx
