It's worth bearing in mind that while the Cherry Blossoms are the "poster boys" of spring in Japan, Plum Blossoms bloom a bit earlier and are just as lovely in my opinion. So if you booked for early March and are worried about missing out, there will still be something for you to see.

Plum blossoms are also amazingly gorgeous!

I came the end of Feb through mid March of last year and thought I was going to miss them but they ended up blooming a little early and I got to have my Sakura dreams come true 🥰 Much love from Arizona 💜💜

I live in Aomori Prefecture so I get to enjoy Sakura Matsuri 2Xs a year! I travel to Tokyo in late March often for my musha shugyo (every 2-4 months). When I go to Tokyo, I check it out in Ueno/Akasaka/Naka-Meguro. When I return to Aomori, Sakura time begins.

There's some classic cheery blossom viewing spots around Tokyo, but I particularly loved happening on groves of trees in other neighborhoods. Wish I could remember more of them.

Hi John. Missed this livestream but caught the replay all the way from Maryland. Did you know that this area I'm in which is National Harbor has cherry blossom trees? I had no idea but was told they'll start blooming between now and March. Who knew? Lol. Still, I'd much rather see them in Japan than in Maryland. Have a great day my brother!

And if you REALLY want to go all out on the cherry blossoms you can do what I did. See them for a month by following them around the prefectures. Side note. In ueno park, the national museum of nature and science should have an exhibit up that shows beautiful art pieces of all the different sakura varieties

I was lucky enough to enjoy the cherry blossom season in Japan last year. I hope I'll be able to do it again next year :) . Unfortunately, I only have time for one trip this year and I want to use that when the Tokyo Game Show kicks in in September :) .

I planned my trip to Japan in 2013 around the cherry blossoms. When we arrived in Osaka around 22nd of March and then went to Kyoto until the end of March it was unseasonably cold. The cherry blossoms were not really ready yet, just starting to open up. There were others, like plum, but almost no sakura. Then we went to Tokyo next, and over there were the very last few days! Basically we managed to miss both mankai (full bloom).

Last year the cherry blossoms came out at the start of March in Ueno. Since I’m coming back at the same time again I’m hopefully they will pop out early again 🤞

Now i am worried I am not going to see Sakura at all. Can anyone suggest any deviations which dont cost A LOT that i can make along this route or if anyhow i might be able to see some cherry blossom. Doesnt have to be everywhere. maybe a day visit as well? Will be of great help! thanks!

For those coming in Sakura season (now in Okinawa and into June in Hokkaido) there is new news about what is happening with regard to the still bargain priced Hokuriku Arch Pass. The Hokuriku Arch Pass that allowed for travel between Tokyo and Kansai (Osaka/Kyoto.Kobe/ Himeji) b y arching north through Kanazawa is going to go up in price March 16th just like the Japan Rail Passes did last fall. It will also no longer be available to purchase at train stations in Japan after March 15th. However, similar to what happened with the Japan Rail Pass, one can still purchase the voucher for the pass outside of Japan and the voucher remains valid for three months to be exchanged for the pass. So if you purchase the voucher outside of Japan between now and March 15th it will be good for exchange for an additional three months after your purchase date. The present price for the Hokuriku Arch Pass is 24,500 yen and it will be going up to 30,000 yen. (Note if you purchase the Hokuriku Arch Pass in Japan, rather than the voucher, it must be used within 30 days, and as noted above you will no longer be able to even purchase it in Japan after March 15th.). As a reminder, one must have a foreign passport to purchase and use the Hokuriku Arch Pass and it only is available as a 7 day pass. I just purchased a voucher for the Hokuriku Arch Pass here in the U.S. this week for travel in April. Even though the price will have increased by the time I use it I am locked in, having paid the 24,500 yen present price. As a side note, after March 16th the Shinkansen will have been extended from Kanazawa to much closer to Kansai. This was the offered reason the Hokuriku Arch Pass's price did not increase at the same time last fall when many other regional passes had price increases including the Japan Rail Pass. Of course you get the benefit of the extended Shinkansen train travel when you use the pass after March 16. Dale from Alaska.

The season started on March 14th last year so I don’t know what’s “usual” anymore 😂 we won’t know until 11 blossoms bloom on the “indicator” tree at Yasukuni Shrine according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

I’ve gone to Japan in October the last two years and loved the weather plus that it wasn’t super packed (at least 2022 wasn’t). I’m planning a third trip for next January through March of 2025. I really don’t think I’d like to go during summertime (yet). The weather just seems too overwhelming with all the walking you have to do in Tokyo. Plus I also think Cherry Blossom season is overrated.

If I came 11 April to 20 April to Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo only, will I miss sakuras? It is heartbreaking to miss them :((
@onlyinjapanGO4 ай бұрын
You’ll miss the SOMEI YOSHINO for sure. There will be some hanging in but well past the peak unfortunately. Tokyo - you can go to Okutama or Mt Takao and May catch them. You just need to go inland or elevation a bit. Tokyo and Kyoto are actually pretty big - but done in the urban areas. Some varieties bloom late and you’ll catch a few of those :)

Why would anybody be so dumb to pay so much money on air fares and hotel accommodation by going to Japan just to see those cherry blossom 🌸 I rather go to China to see those 🌸 cherry blossom during the season in Longwangtang Cherry Blossom park in Lushan, Dailian, Liaoning or East Lake Cherry Blossom park near Wuhan University, in Donghu district. And going to China is much, much cheaper than going to Japan in term of air fares, hotel accommodation, including the local food and even taking a taxi on the street in China is much cheaper than in Japan. Moreover China have more beautiful scenery than Japan.
