It's called a banana seat. It was the style back in my youth days. I grew up with those style bikes. That lemon bike made the whole video. Brought back many memories. Thanks for sharing...😃👍👌👊👊👊🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️

They're great for doing wheelies and carrying a passenger. I have a Lowrider with bent springer forks that have that banana seat style. Think I've also seen that style referred to as crate/krate bikes. A top tube shifted one is expensive.....2ndary market I have seen listed at $2,000+ (usd)

When I was a kid everybody wanted a Schwinn Stinger banana seat bike. They came in cool colors and there was even a 5 speed version with hand brakes and a stick shift. The long seat made it possible to pop cool wheelies. Let's go!

Bikes with the banana seat, as it came to be known, were first produced in 1963 by the Schwinn company. The Schwinn "Sting Ray" had the banana seat and high-rise handlebars giving it the look of a "chopper" motorcycle and was an instant hit for the company. The long, padded seat meant a more comfortable ride, and it could accommodate more than one rider.

There was another version in the 70's, called the Crates. My friends had the "Apple Crate" and another had the "Lemon Crate", the difference was that the Crates were 5 speeds instead of single speed. Then you would put some playing cards and a clothes pin to simulate the motor sounds. Those were the days!

In Canada, bike shops usually only stock a few brands. Stock for new bikes and parts is also pretty limited these days after the COVID bike boom started this spring. It's interesting to see that most of the Japanese shops you've shown deal with such a variety in brands and price.

In 1969, my parents bought me my first new bike. Up until this timely bicycles were very used hand-me-downs. My new bike was a Schwinn Apple-Crate. Full suspension and five speeds!. I was just 8 years old, so this was a big deal. The bike cost $90.00 and that was a very big deal. I wore it out and then I inherited my brother's Apple-Crate and wore it out. And, yes, I still have the Apple-Crate! Thanks for your entertaining videos. I can sense that you two enjoy the adventure of making them and I enjoy experiencing your adventure through the videos.

That orange like Brompton is called Flame Lacquer. I used to do brazing when I was in college and I'm very fond of the Raw Lacquer because it shows the joints of the tubes (where they are brazed together). So, every Brompton comes with a powder coat (it's not really paint or lacquer or anything like anodizing). Some come with opaque pigments (typical red, blue, green etc) and some come with these translucent pigments. I did a lot of research myself as I'm looking to put an order in for one.

That banana seat with the hi-rise handle bars, was a kid's dream bike for the latter day baby-boomer (during the 60' and early 70's). Mine had a 3-speed gear shifter with red pin-stripe side wall (knobby) tires and a high back bar so your passenger can rest and hold tight. I rode that bike a lot when I was a kid; it was my "rosebud" bike. Now, it's an endurance road bike.

AHA! Saw a couple mentions of the manga/anime "Longriders!" in the comments. BIG fan. The show brought me back to cycling after 25 years away. Feel like I owe it (and series creator Miyake Taishi) a debt of gratitude. Yes, the bike that catches main-character Kurata Ami's attention in the opening is a "Birdy" (at that time, known as a Riese und Muller BD-1), like the ones seen in this video. I'd love to give a Birdy a try!

I would encourage Thuong to test ride the Tern BYB, it folds pretty compact, but with 20 inch wheels it will be a more stable ride than the Brompton on rougher roads and trails. If you want to tour and carry more gear, the Tern GSD is amazing.

I love my Zizzo Liberte. I've put at least 300 miles on it. It's definitely not top of the line, but I think it's well-built for the price. Customer service is stellar, too. $359.99 from Costco in the US.

I too own a bike from Zizzo, two of them in fact, a Forte and Campo and didn’t have to pay more than $500 for each bike.

12:18 that Peco looks amazing. I'm not into mini bikes or folding ones but the day you guys have no space in the rooms to put anymore bikes or you decide to leave Japan and can't carry all don't hesitate to contact me I'll be more than glad to take a couple from you 😜🙂 nice video as usual . I forgot to ask of the for the components of that 5K USD bike ... Dura-Ace? 😜
