Japanese Lever vs Korean Lever - A Mini Discussion

In the video, I discuss some differences between Japanese fight stick levers like the classic Sanwa JLF (sorry I kept saying JFL) and Korean levers like the Crown 309MJ. Whether you like spring tension or tension from a rubber grommet, a lot of whether you decide between a Japanese or Korean lever will depend on personal preference. Let me know in the comments, which lever you prefer and why!
I forgot to mention in the video a mod you can buy called OTTO DIY (@otto_diy) that makes your Sanwa JLF lever more like a Korean lever by incorporating silicon tension inserts and different sized pivots with restictor gates giving the Japanese lever a smoother experience while maintaining precise directional inputs. Thank you to Adam (@NoobSaiwat) on Twitter for directing me to this awesome mod.

If you want a little bit of freedom from wrong input, don't just use any oversized actuator for the JLF. What you want is a bigger deadzone, aka smaller/default diameter on the part of the actuator that touches the switches aka bottom part of the actuator and bigger diameter on the part that touches the restrictor plate aka top part of the actuator. You can practically replace the spring on JLF lever with any spring that has almost the same size as the default JLF.

I jave never used an arcade stick before but I am thinking of switching from pad to stick. Would a Japanese lever be easier to use or a korean lever?
@DrSmoores
@DrSmoores 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a tough question to answer because a lot of it comes down to simply personal preference. However, a Japanese lever might be easier to use if you’re coming straight from a pad as it will give you the most accurate inputs.

wish u had try to put the sanwa lever into the korean component to see what would happen
@DrSmoores
@DrSmoores 3 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah that would have been good. I’ve done it just not in a video. It fits mostly. The lever is a little long for the Korean base, but it does work. It’s just odd feeling. It feels looser than it should.

The Japanese stick seems a bit better in general for fighting games, but for other type of games I would assume the Korean stick would have a better satisfying feel to it.
@DrSmoores
@DrSmoores 3 жыл бұрын
I think part of it is simply preference, it a lot of it is about what you want to do exactly. Certain techniques or ways people hold the stick work better with one lever over the other.

can you replace the 301's bat top head?
@DrSmoores
@DrSmoores 3 жыл бұрын
No, the 301 is the battop and shaft as one unit, so you can buy another color but you have to replace the whole top and shaft.

@@Caleboosaurus he mean tekken 7 , the Mishima character( kazuya ,Jin, hiehachi, devil Jin ), need a lever to go fast in neutral, and smoother for wavedash ,no restrector gat, and that is Korean lever , you can also do that with japneas lever but I think it’s not consistency , for me japnease lever are good for 2D games like street fighter , and Korean lever is good for 3D fighting games (heavy directional input , side step …..)

Are Korean levers good for 2d anime fighters
@edwinatwell7423
@edwinatwell7423 2 жыл бұрын
I use a K-Lever for anime fighters. I've found that a short throw low tension lever is better for 2D fighters. But I like long throw high tension levers for Tekken.

The metallic hinges over the microswitches on the Korean stick do all the "restriction" needed. Japanese sticks suck, and make no sense.
