Wow I just asked my mother who is Japanese to count to 10 and back, and she said it different on the way backwards. It actually works!

I have tried to learn japanese in so many different ways - using textbooks, phone apps, etc. But I gotta tell you, this is the most fun way to learn japanese, IMO. I do feel like I'm in a classroom interacting with the instructor which helps me to focus but it's not as restricted as being in a class (i'm watching these in my pjs drinking coffee before work)! I'm going to keep watching your videos. Thank you for these awesome lessons!

So, I found a nice game/technique for practicing numbers. If you have a commute to work. I've been just looking at plates, signs, and billboards and saying out loud all the numbers I see in Japanese. It's been really fun and I've started to just not even think about it, but immediately know the numbers in Japanese. Plus it's great because the numbers are always random and different.

Houses usually avoid using the number four because in Chinese and many other languages, four sounds like any word - death. So instead, they use 3A for their four. Example: 1, 2, 3, 3A, 5, 6......

This is great, ive looked alot of textbooks and such so far but I love how comfortable you are with explaining all this. Its like sitting in a classroom with a teacher because its all unscripted , it just has a relaxed feel to it that makes it feel less stiff and more comfortable. You are a good teacher.

I love how the channel named Japanese from Zero started teaching number from one instead.

For the people who have a Nintendo Switch and some spare cash, theres a game called “Hiragana Pixel Party” and its pretty good. It teaches both hiragana and katakana. Its a sidescroller where you jump over boxes. Its boring but good to learn. Just thought someone could benefit from this 🙂

I've been trying to learn Japanese my whole life, been through private classes, college courses, friends, co workers and housemates who all helped me a long with my dismal progress... In my 30 years I haven't found someone able to explain the correct sounds of N "San" and R "Roku" as well as you did within 3 minutes of the vid. I'm impressed. Subbed and thumbs, hopefully I can add you to the list of teaches, peers and friends who've helped me develop my Japanese language skills little by little :)

In Mandarin, 4 is an unlucky number too. Four is sì, while death is sǐ. Currently I am in Taiwan, and I can confirm that most hotels and apartments do NOT have a 4th floor.

I know this video is super old now, but I wanted to let you know. My husband and I moved to Japan last year and picked up the first of your books a few months before relocating. We've been using them (and a few other apps and sources) to learn, and I really like the way you explain things. I just found your videos and thought it was super helpful to review what we learned from your books since I took a bit of break from them. (Relocation to another country is very complicated lol). Anyway, I'm back on track and wanted to thank you! So... thank you! Haha! I think what I struggle with most is that I know more Japanese than my husband does, but he has more confidence to use what he knows when we go out in public. Still working on that confidence almost one year into living in Japan, but I know I'll get there with your resources!!!

Even though I've already bought two other books on japanese AND Kanji from zero - because of this video alone I also bought Japanese from Zero. I love that you give video lessons to acompany your books and that they are actually free and not behind any registration wall. (also I love that there's a Unity development book on the shelf behind you :D)

You know what’s crazy, I wrote 76 down as an example number before I went along with the video. But then his example number was also 76. What a 1/99 chance of happening!

In the manga/anime called "Nana", its a story of 2 girls named Nana. One gets called "Hachi" like the dog but I get the joke now because it also means 8 (like how nana means 7). So the characters are "seven" and "eight"

I REALLY want to learn Japanese, and I have a Japanese friend I COULD practice with but I am really nervous to pronounce things wrong and sound like a dumb weeaboo ;---;

I don't know if it's in Japan too but (from what I've read and heard) in China the hotels usually don't have the rooms 4, 13 and 14 (13 for the western people).

I'm from the UK and decided to learn Japanese during the lockdown. It's something I've always wanted to do but i've never had the time. These videos have been fun so far, never thought learning numbers could be entertaining, I hated maths at school. Definitly going to buy your books.

This was really great, I learnt how to count to 99 in just over 20 minutes. I also found using objects to count rather than just in my head made this alot easier to pickup.

Love these videos. I love learning Japanese Ps. In my language nana means grandfather. And Nani何 means grandmother. So whenever I say. Nani 何 I feel like I'm calling my grandmother

I started a week ago today, let me tell you George, you and your wife have created something truly special. Although I am getting to a point in the series and book to which i get confused, so I seem to go back to the beginning, rewatching the videos, re-reading the lessons and reinforcing what I do know and understanding what I didn't which then allows me to progress a bit further. Like I say, I have only been doing this for a week, I know 1 - 99, some simple sentences and questions, along side 25 Hiragana. I work alot at the moment due to covid, but all of the spare time I have, i'm throwing at this. Never thought i'd be able to learn anything like this, but I love everything about the culture, and you good sir have made it so much more accessible for people like me.

Way before I started being interested in Japanese I learned how to count to ten when I had a substitute teacher who taught the whole class. And I remembered that for years, and now here I am learning Japanese and I already know how to count to ten, so I can just go from there. It also helps that I’ve been learning for a year now. I’m watching these videos because I’m STUCK! so I’m taking your advice and moving forward.
