Comprehensible Japanese

3 жыл бұрын

I’m Yuki Kimura, a native Japanese speaker living in Fukuoka, Japan. I make Japanese lesson videos to help learners to acquire Japanese in the most natural and fun way.
Let me give you a quick introduction to my teaching method and how it’s effective.
My teaching method is based on Dr. Krashen’s Input hypothesis. Dr. Stephen Krashen, a famous linguist in the field of second language acquisition, says that we learn language in only one way. And that is when we understand messages. When we understand what we hear and read.
I will not be teaching you Japanese grammar rules or giving you a list of useful expressions. Instead, I will be talking to you in “Comprehensible Japanese”.
In my videos,
・I talk all in Japanese, slowly and clearly.
・I talk in simple and short sentences.
・I use high-frequency words repeatedly in the form that they would be used in actual conversation.
・I draw pictures and use gestures while speaking.
・I often rephrase sentences and use synonyms.
I do all these things to make the content comprehensible for you, to make sure that you understand messages.
Forget that it’s in a foreign language. Just sit and enjoy watching my videos, and you will get used to the sounds of the Japanese language and gradually start picking up words and expressions and even grammar in the contexts.
Hundreds more videos are available on our website. (cijapanese.com/)

Mrs. Yuki, thanks for all the content that you put out to help us language acquirers. I was wondering if you would be able to make a video over reading Japanese. I do not mean to go over subjects such as the three scripts or something along those lines, but something like how を is pronounced like o in some cases and little nuisances like that. I ask of this as reading is also a great way to increase language acquisition. Thanks for all you do!

Thanks for the comment and request. I appreciate it. I agree that reading is also a great way to acquire language! (I learned English through extensive reading😊📚) Although, in my videos I focus on providing language input through stories rather than explaining the details. But if you come across any questions about grammar, pronunciation or how to read, feel free to ask me in the comment. I'd be happy to help you! For "を" that you mentioned, it's only used as a particle, and is always pronounced as "o" (same as "お") 👍 Thank you again for the comment!

@@cijapanese Hi, I am really enjoying your videos so far, This is my first time trying to actually learn a language and I've heard that this method is the best way to learn. At what point would you recommend starting to learn to read Japanese. Should I wait until I'm more familiar with what you are saying in your videos? Also, do you have any suggested resources for learning to read? The little I understand about the Japanese characters seem rather complex compared to the English alphabet, so I'm kind of unsure of where to even begin with that. Thanks for all the videos, you are very good with illustrating what you are talking about.

Hi, thank you for the comment! I think you could start to learn how to read once you get used to the sounds and intonation of the Japanese language. But please continue listening a lot even after you start reading😊 You can turn on Japanese subtitles on my videos so if you can recognize some characters I think it will help you understand the content even better. One of my viewers who has experiences in learning some languages through comprehensible input told me that he used this for Hiragana. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bNZpfM-Qz5bempc.html (You know we have 3 different characters and Hiragana is the one you should learn first.)

@@cijapanese Thank you for the reply. That is very helpful, I will definitely continue to keep watching and listening. I'll look in to Hiragana as well.

1:36 Sensei, what's the difference between 器 and お皿? Is 器 a bowl and お皿 a plate? I thought お碗 was the word for plate.
@cijapanese
@cijapanese 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question! お皿 is a plate and お椀 is a bowl. 器 means containers in general so both お皿 and お椀 can be called 器.
