Yes, we actually went to prison! With permission and under guard we were able to film what breakfast in a Japanese prison is really like. If you do not attend school to obtain a Japanese chef's license, at least two years of work experience is required, but this prison work is also recognized as experience and can be used to obtain a license.

@@DonaldMcNuGGeT I agree. I hate when people praise for doing basic work. They are prisoners or workers. Do they really think anyone going to act stupid in a prison where guards are watching you're every move or while on camera? You can go to the worst fast food chain and tell them you're going make a video, then watch how fast and clean the place gets while everyone working with a smile. There's no respect or anything. It's either I'm there to do a job or I'm a prisoner that rather work in the kitchen than be out working in the fields.

Prisoners usually don't care about the law or who's watching. The fact they want to go home is a huge factor in being disciplined and going home. If someone is doing life they really don't care. These guards are also modeling the behavior they want to see. Working in there is actually a privilege not everyone can so it is big deal just like if you couldn't work and had to sit in a cell all day @@la8ball

im sure, but you know every minute is dicated. they get a rule book the size of a phone book and it tells them when they wake, sleep, eat how to walk where everything is to be placed in your cell ect. compared to the states its like no free time and every min of your day you are expected to to x,y,z

Most Japan citizens are making the same wages as the 90’s paid, there also a lot of social issues and a lack of creativity with most citizens. Also there’s way to many elderly people not even children bring born to take over the next generation. Just to name a few things Hell in 2023 Japan makes you bring a stupid stamp around just to file any sort of document when you’re out in public literally anywhere. They also have a lot of Internet issues in offices, a Way higher level of depression, and then countries in the west. You need to not watch so much anime and really research what real Japan is like

@@Faceplay2 I watched DragonBallZ and that's pretty much it. I'm just "exploring" and I don't take anything I see as a done deal. I'm just wondering how's Japan like... But going with that extreme level discipline is what I'm kind of interested in pretty much. It's foreign to me - it looks from the outside as a "machine" that does a good job at what it is doing Now everything has its own good and bad side and I'm aware of it. Maybe this system and all should start to shift its focus towards what people like, maybe ease off a bit... you tell me :)

Not so. I have designed well over 100 prisons and jails, and the great majority of them are very clean. All of the state prisons in Wisconsin with one exception are as clean as this one.

@@krystal7916 If prison is a business, they would charge the inmates for rent, meals, laundry , and utilities. Living in a gated community with private security, like Black Hawk, is not cheap. The fact that inmates are being asked to do work is rehabilitation. It's not like they are making food which is being sold to the public.

Cooks do not need to be covered head to toe in restaurants. Normally you just want to avoid hair getting into the food. You dont even need gloves. The outfits are probably for the inmate's safety to avoid being splashed by hot water

I was most impressed when they started weighing out the rice portions. Prisoners can put up with a lot, but perceived food inequality and unfairness can cause a lot of beef with the prisoners.

Yeah, it's so helpful that Amnesty International has been writing reports about the abuses occurring in Japanese prisons for like 50 years. They're disciplined because they know what will happen to them if they do something like walk the wrong way or sit down wrong.

この施設は刑務所ではありますが、社会復帰促進センターという比較的刑が軽い人や刑期終了が近づいている人が出所後にうまく社会復帰できるように比較的出所後の日常生活に近い状態で生活させる施設です。動画にもあるように個室でテレビもあり、部屋にいる間は基本的に自由に過ごしていいようですし、現金も持つことができるようです。そういう施設なので余計に明るくきれいに見えるのだと思います。

A級刑務所であり、B級の名刑にくらべると新しいし綺麗。一部しかみえてないが、内部ルールや飯は播磨社会復帰促進センターは、厳しいし飯はまずい。別にそれでいいじゃんならそれでいいが、知らんバカが美味しそうだの、良いなだのでこんなん楽やんとか言ってんの見ると、ぶつぶつ言わんと良さそうなろ入れば？と思うがな。こういう奴はこの仕事楽そうでいいなとか言うタイプだろ、言うならやりゃええやん。いちいち妬むな気色悪りぃ

Well to be fair they will only show you the nice part of JPN prison as we have seen in other prison documentaries. These are not the violent criminals and those guys are locked up in a more secure section.

@@JerBuster77plus the reason why there’s such a high rate of crimes being solved is that it’s not all too uncommon for someone to get falsely accused and be absolutely forced to admit they done it even if they haven’t. There was a very well done video on that topic here on KZfaq but the title slips my mind.

@@JerBuster77 Actually, your statement is NOT accurate. I am an Officer of the Court from California currently living in Japan for at least 2 more years studying the culture, including the legal system. For the facts, Japan has proportionally far less prisoners than those in the US and Europe, reflecting the much lower crime rate relative to population. As such, compared to the US, Japan has fewer prisons. Accommodations vary from small group dormitory style rooms to individual cells like in this video. Those criminals considered more dangerous are normally housed individually (LIKE IN THIS VIDEO). I don't know how you came up with your conclusion, but the details shown in this video is basically an average Japanese prison that apparently includes severe criminals. It serves no "constructive" purpose to provide untruths, unverified innuendo, etc. One last point, compared to prisons in the US and other First World countries, the Japanese system is extremely focused on rehabilitation (an element that is supposedly the point of incarceration in the US, but rarely fulfilled if any). This is reflected in the recidivism rate in Japan, which is far lower than in the US or Europe. Based on just this aspect of their criminal justice system, I can only conclude that they must be doing something right.

its honestly not that hard. Rice is easy to make and refrigerates really well in the event you have leftovers. As long as you have a bag of frozen veggies, eggs, and rice, along with basic seasonings, fried rice can be made in a matter of minutes. Add in some chicken nuggets or something from an air fryer and you have a whole meal in under 15 mins

Probably cleaner and way healthier than the food our children eat for school lunches! This process is remarkable! This is what rehabilitation looks like! It looks like maybe everyone gets a chance to prepare and serve the food. People given structure, skills and respect will most likely stay out of the system. Well done!

They were only feeding 600 prisoners there I feel so embarrassed our prisons are over full here in the states and it comes from bad parenting nobody wants to discipline the kids no more I'll give them everything spoil them blah blah blah terrible I am so embarrassed

That’s a lot easier to do when you live in a country with a homogeneous culture that is so prominent that even the lowest of society adhere to it. Something like this just wouldn’t be possible in the states, we’re just too culturally diverse. It would also require holding people accountable, something that when mentioned around progressive politicians, strangely induces projectile vomiting.

Prisoners only reflect the society they come from. The Japanese are an orderly people and very disciplined. Even though these guys broke laws against societal norms. They still come from a discipline society, unlike the U.S. or other notorious prison systems ie Mexico.

包丁も使わせます基本、包丁を使わない材料を仕入れますが、使用しなければならない時は、鍵の掛かる保管庫(殺菌庫)から職員に許可を貰い借り出されます本動画のキャベツ(味噌汁の具)は前日に芯を包丁で切り落とし、フードカッターで細かく切られてると思慮されます

their discipline looks like they are army reservist, the prison looks like a workplace and their morale are still strong and you didn't feel you're serving a confinement. after they served jail i hope the society give them a second chance to prove themselves and giving a descent job

Of course they are. They are probably hand selected to be shown on camera. Besides Japanese prison is VERY strict. The consequences for breaking rules are severe as hell. For example you can't look at a guard before eating.

@@krislarsen6546in Japan still an ex convicts still had chances to be reintroduced to society because government sponsored and give them employment once they fulfilled their jail service. here in the Philippines an ex convict had no more chance to work because employers had strict requirements and your background would be checked first, but starting a business and making yourself a self employed worker would make yourself stand on your own feet
