I've listened to many interviews with Ronnie and I would have nominated him for the Official Historian and Spokesman of Heavy Metal.This interview is too much with Ronnie explaining Heavy Metal to Joan, who has no clue about heavy music. But, you have to give her a lot of credit for being so open, welcoming and non-judgemental about Ronnie. She is genuinely tickled to death to have him on the show. She is really enjoying learning about something she seems to have absolutely no knowledge of from the master teacher. This is what life is all about-a true bridging the gap between differing perspectives, life experiences and tastes. Priceless.

+Brett Owen he seems to feel the same, at the beginning, as iof to roll his eyes and ask "what am I doing HERE". But, when he realizes she genuinly doesnt know, and genuinly WANTS to know, he just lights up. That makes this one of the best RJD interviews I have ever seen. No tired questions about how Ritchie is a dick, no questions about remixing albums in the middle of the night. Just REAL questions about what he does and why he does it.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting to like this interview, but I ended up loving it. Really great and honest communication between the two of them, and they both seemed to be really enjoying themselves. Cool lady, and Ronnie was as gracious as ever. I think he would have talked to her for a couple of hours if he could have. This interview was a breath of fresh air.

She's asking all the right questions, and he's giving very good answers. She seems completely ignorant on the subject (and not afraid to hide it), which is actually a good thing, which is why her questions are so good. Nothing worse than interviewers who try to prove that they know something. She doesn't have that pride, and it's for the better. She's a great interviewer. Also, I believe that Catholicism has driven a lot of people to Atheism, unfortunately.
@benedictdonald43383 жыл бұрын
It’s not just Catholicism - generally any exploration into the Bible can open the door to atheism.
@dontamputate2 жыл бұрын
We all doubt our faith, that is why it is called faith. When our faith gets tested we need to be accountable for our own decisions to believe or not. Same thing w Jews and the holocaust…for many it tested them the point of atheism and others, it strengthened their faith as a bitter message or medicine for change. In the end YOU either believe or you don’t and circumstances make you more of what you already are. Like money.

**As a person who saw all his heavy metal shows in Philadelphia, it's nice to hear that, of all the cities in the world where he played, Philly was his favorite! Although I wasn't there for that first-ever show with Sabbath, I was there for his 2nd ever show with them. That was my first concert, in the Spectrum, in Philadelphia, for the Mob Rules tour in late 1981.** I had recently turned 14. I saw him again for the Sacred Heart tour, which I unfortunately missed most of, due to my 'error' of having drank a bit too much, too fast in the parking lot beforehand. Someone offered me either Yukon Jack or Southern Comfort, after drinking beer, and i started getting the spins shortly after entering the Spectrum, and quickly walked out just in time to lose my supper in the parking lot! Then I had to lay down in my back seat, missing the show. I never became an alcoholic, and I quit drinking in the mid 90s, after growing tired of social drinking on weekends. But It still bothers me that I'd allow something as stupid as drinking too much, too quickly to rob me of that experience.

Just wanted to add to the other comments about how genuinely heartwarming this interview is for so many reasons. My first question, which I didn't see anyone ask below - was HOW did he end up on this show in 1994? Like others here I enjoyed the interviewer so much, and she got such wonderful responses from Ronnie simply by being genuinely interested, engaged, and NOT following the tired, cliched scripts of music journalism that I had to look her up. Well, heck folks: Joan Quinn was apparently a force of nature herself and a fixture on L.A. cable for decades, with an interview show that focused largely on the 'fine arts' (about the only other "superstar" person besides Dio I could find, on some quick superficial research into her KZfaq - is Cheech Marin). She was especially keyed into visual art, and apparently worked for Andy Warhol (Interview magazine) at one point. If you are into painting at all you will probably recognize a few names among the many people she interviewed; if you don't think you are, maybe give some random ones a try and you might find your horizons expanding. Back to Dio: I would still like to know how ended up as a guest on this show, because it seems kind of random (maybe we should write to Wendy?) but I would like to think that this ebullient Joan Quinn recognized true artists no matter what medium they worked in, and so she and Ronnie just naturally clicked and fell into a rhythm right away.

Dio, Dickenson, Halford had the greatest voices for power metal. Ronnie was the most exceptional of them all though. Everything he touched turned out great. He made Rainbow great, he had a hug impact on Sabbath. Heaven and Hell is one of their greatest albums. And the first 3 solo albums were phenomenal. I was disappointed when Vivian Campbell wasn't in the band anymore, Imo it took away from the unique sound and some of the creativity
