Great review! Truly impressive level of performance in a thin and light 2-in-1. As a research scientist who needs raw power and is always on the go, I was desperately waiting for something like this. G14 looked almost perfect... If it just had a webcam! Thankfully, Asus did it right with this one! A very interesting laptop that initiated lots of great content! For me, faster screen+disabling optimus+micro sd+better battery life(like with 80% brightness, as many apps as I need open, 120hz, 8 hours)+windows hello facial recognition+3050ti makes it the perfect laptop. This might seem like a lot but it has been the closest to my perfect laptop ever. Great video with loads of content! Love it!

This laptop, without the eGPU, is probably the best performance 13 inch laptop you can have. At $1200 for the base model, it’s quite reasonable too, similar to XPS, but has a 1650! Getting this, plus a desktop (not the eGPU), is quite a reasonable option as well.

Hi Jarrod, I am pretty sold on this laptop and your review cemented my views on it, so thank-you! I am a noob when it comes to this stuff though, which is why I watch your videos, and I am facing a conundrum. The model you have reviewed is for sale at Harvey Norman and when I was trying to shop around, I found that there is a model with a Ryzen 9 5900HS (as opposed to the R7 5800) and RTX 3050Ti (as opposed to the GTX 1650) for like $100 more. Is it worth my while buying the model with the bigger numbers or would that actually be worse for some reason that I may not know? Hoping I can find out in the next couple of days as I need to buy a new laptop soon! Thanks again.

Definitely worth it. The ryzen 9 is the same as ryzen 7, but from betterchips, so it can run on lower voltage, so it needs less power for the same performance. The RTX 3050ti is capable of dlss (so you will have much more fps), and also it's a bit stronger. I will buy the X13 with the Ryzen 7 and the 3050 config soon, but in my country this is the only option with 32gb of ram :/

I bought the Flow X13 without egpu (as that was all that was available in Europe at the moment). I'm really curious when and for how much the XG Mobile with 3070 will be sold. Tbh, I'm not a big competitive gamer but like some occasional gaming and so far even the 1650 in the laptop was able to run Civ VI and Cyberpunk 2077 well enough for me to play them both. How to spot a console gamer, he tells you you don't need 120hz Boy if you have 120hz you don't need vrr More frames is better vrr makes below 60fps gaming a bit better but it's always better trying to get above 60hz. Personally I tune games to run at 80-100hz, above I don't see a difference, below I can see stuttering. And I'm no pro gamer, 100hz simply looks and feels smoother

Man..... The Razer Blade Stealth 13 has been my dream laptop for the last few years now (even though I don't need it because I already own two laptops and an high performance desktop setup)... But seeing this review has made me question that lol ASUS has continuously been blowing me away with the quality of their laptops recently. The only three things I could think of in the Stealth's favor are: (a) subjectively it's aesthetically more appealing (b) the build quality appears higher and sturdier (c) it runs a 1650ti MAX-Q (though it shockingly underperformed in this test; curious if that's CPU or power related). With those few sacrifices, in the X13 you get: (a) longer battery life (b) taller display (16:10) with touch screen capability (c) fingerprint scanner (d) superior Ryzen 8-core CPU (e!!!) AN HDMI PORT (f) superior (albeit fewer) USB ports (g) potentially superior speakers. Good thing I can't find this thing in stock anywhere, otherwise I might impulse buy it lol

I was going to buy this until I read a reddit thread with some details no reviewer has addressed: Plugging and unplugging the eGPU is a major pain. Every time you want to switch, you not only have to go through the ASUS software, but also close all other software that is running. For example: If you're playing a game and suddenly have to leave, you have to save and close the game, and any other documents or software running in the background too. If you don't do this, you can't use the laptop in iGPU. Seems far off from the plug-and-play experience we would all want.

And still almost everyone fails to mention that the RAM is soldered and caps out at 16GB with a FHD screen options and only 2 of the 4K screen SKUs come with 32GB - they also do come with the R9 5980HS CPU as the Supernova edition... or so Asus page shows on the product page. That's a pity, 'cause 32GB at this price point would have sounded better if present across the lineup. And that 4K screen while looking nice is kind of overkill, especially since the weaker internal dGPU is just GTX1650 in a 35W package - there are I think 2 FHD 16:10 screen SKUs as option but they come with 512GB SSD + 16GB RAM + R7 5800HS, and the screen is of low color rating (something like 100% sRGB 70% ARGB/DCI-P3). So to run the higher quality 4K integrated screen that nets you a 85% ARGB you need the external dGPU to get good performance. Plus, 4K in a 13" only eats up your battery and makes the iGPU/idGPU run harder/hotter, without providing any great benefit over smaller resolutions.

I believe Optimus is holding this laptop back even with the eGPU connected. Wished you were able to compare Optimus OFF against GE76 w/ MUX Switch OFF

What if I wanted to use my laptop let's just say I used goovis home theater glasses just to bypass Optimus so I can use my laptop , I also noticed when using my laptop with a second monitor or the home theater glasses I had access to both dldsr/DSR and super resolution from AMD and variable refresh rate. I also noticed that certain games would start to feel a little laggy after a few minutes what's exactly happening and how could I eliminate lag from my laptop the portable home theater glasses don't lag only the laptop starts to lag after a few minutes

Curious if theres any thermal benefits of this being a 2-in-1. If you have the keyboard face down with the fans exposed would give you any cooler temps or if their raising keyboard design makes them essentially equal.

I am interested in getting this as a music production/live band playing. I usually use ableton/fl stuido with plug ins such as omnisphere/keyscape/kontakt. Is this a good one for that?

The 1650 On the Laptop feels weird to add on a 2400$ laptop and the fact that you have to get the iGPU just to take full advantage of the CPU and the Screen being over 20ms or else this is looking good!

Thank you Jarod, very good video indeed. I have pre-ordered mine from the UK with e-gpu (supernova edition) but it's completely out of stock... The retailer has noted that there are some issues with connectivity between the laptop and e-gpu to explain the delay. Have experienced any problems? Thanks again for your work

Hi there. I wish I could send this in a private message, and I mean this in the kindest way possible. I love your content of the three videos that I've just watched and discovered. The only thing stopping me from subscribing is your repetitive vocal pitch pattern. It jars me to hear the same robotic pattern speaking out every scripted line. Other than that, your videos have given me so much information that's more in depth than the most popular reviewers out there, keep up the great work!

11:16 So the XG Mobile power draw only goes up to 110W instead of 150W? This is likely to affect the gaming performance then as it can't draw as much power as stated? Is there a way to get up to the 150W stated?

It's the brightness for me. I'd like to see phone(1000+ nit), or at least tablet(600 nit) level of brightness, which most ultrabooks at this price range do have the option. A good OLED would solve both response times and brightness deficiencies. I would pay the premium for a good QHD, OLED screen, 4K is nice but would last 2 hours on this. battery.

@@mini9503 I mean I use an Helios 300 currently which has around the same brightness, a little low maybe, but it's response time and refresh rate make even editing word files feels better. Ppl really don't acknowledge how far a better display goes for productivity. Edit: 2019 model, with thin bezels not the chunky boi from 2018

I still think that if you buy this laptop solely for gaming, then you should just use an external monitor. It's plain harder to game on a 13 inch screen. I have one of these with the 3080 xg gpu and I use an external monitor, and it's honestly a much better experience, 90% because the screen is bigger.
