"Teaching the history of the British Empire links in with that of the world: for better and for worse, the Empire made us what we are, forming our national identity. A country that does not understand its own history is unlikely to respect that of others." Antony Beevor

BRAVO! .•°`'★ Jarvis Cocker! (Fantastic idea to invite Jarvis !) The man is totally underrated, and underestimated. A real shame that people like him are unavailable for politics ! But then again, they wouldn't stand a chance of introducing their qualities into politics anyways, which is probably the main reason, a Mr.Cocker isn't even tempted to become a politician. He is much too smart for it, and he has principles - which is a no-go in politics. My hope for the future is, that one day the Mr.Cockers of this world take over the governing ... ♥

I'm so very pleased that Jarvis Cocker is unhappy about Brexit. It makes it even sweeter.

I completely find the idea that there would be a contemporary war between European nations if there were no EU a total hyperbolic laugh! As for London welcoming foreigners, it's always been so! Even before the UK joined the EU and I don't understand why everyone is pretending it wasn't so.

A bit too welcoming of foreigners. Speaking as a white Englishman in East London.

@@sergiousera4905 Said the Englishman who loves his country. Love of one's culture/race/country DOESN'T HAVE TO GO HAND IN HAND WITH HATE. It's called pride.

@joanofarc33 Yes, but those immigrants were either from the Commonwealth and/or former colonies of the Empire. Thus they were familiar with the way of life in Britain and had no qualms about assimilating, in fact they were *keen* to become British. These "new" immigrants are "economic immigrants" and have *no desire* to embrace their new country's way of life. They simply see no reason to change as they have no love for Britain or its people.

Love you to bits Jarvis but I'm afraid you are hopelessly naive. There are some groups I'm afraid that very much see an Us and them.
