Yeah. I also doubt any of the questions are surprises to the player, there must be like an extensive interview proccess and they select people with "interesting secrets" to put on the show so you also already know what they're gonna ask you ahead, just maybe not in what order.

The thing about 2008 is that it was okay to kiss other girls if it was for ‘fun’ or men’s gratification, but the uncomfortable silence and the looks on her friend’s and family’s faces really shows that it was not okay to actually want to date those women. “I Kissed A Girl” and ‘The L Word’ were popular, but Prop 8 won in California that year. Restricting gay marriage in one of the most ‘progressive’ states in the US until the Supreme Court ruling in 2015. I feel really bad for this young woman being outed publicly like this. I have a hunch it was not well received. I hope she’s okay today :/

There's also the stigma that bi folks "can't be satisfied with just one person." It's better now (but still def exists), but was REALLY rampant and misunderstood back then. Girls kissing girls was "hot" when just "for fun," but when she says she dated a girl? Like, because she might genuinely like-like girls not just at parties? That's kinda gay, guys. XP

I think the reason the “I don’t wanna get scolded” line is such a red flag is the use of the word “scolded”. You’d scold a child or a dog, but you never hear anyone apply that word to grown adults. It definitely seems to imply Nick sees her as less than him/on the same level as a child or dog. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but the word choice was weird for me personally.

Clearly they're out of the group and it sounded super cult-ish to me. and I always have some small level of sympathy for the "average", not in a position of leadership cult member cuz they're victims too. And if they get out and realize that what they did was crazy and wrong - and even go so far as to expose the shit, maybe they're making amends in some way. It's a very very weird space of thinking for shit like that. Ya know? It's fucked up.

He seems remorseful to boot and he did make an effort to get out. It's one of those things where I can see the complexity of it - for her. I didn't say I was okay with the father's actions just that I can understand how she can defend it given the messed up circumstances the whole family was stuck in. Cults do messed up stuff to people. The brainwashed followers are also victims in it too. That's kind of where the nuance comes in for me (from seeing her perspective, not from thinking the dad is right)

Yea I think I saw someone else say it but I don't get this game either. As soon as you're asked a question like, you're already condemned to answering it. There's no incentive to lie. You either a) tell the truth, b) lie and get immediately called out and corrected, or c) say you don't wanna answer a question, and still pretty much answer the question in the process: like if my gf asks me "yo did you kill my hamster" and my response is "hmmm, I don't want to answer that".... Like, we'd all know what my answer is. So like, the only real "game" is deciding what tier you wanna stop at. The point of the game as a contestant is testing out how much personal and intimate guilt you can openly admit to, not only in front of the people you'd feel most guilty towards, but an audience of strangers, for a chance at a sum of money that would take you months or years to make. There is no incentive to lie, and that's the point. You're AVOIDING your guilt and shame the entire time while also being irrevocably forced to confront it. It's more appealing to watch than to participate because of the structure, lol. The ones who eagerly play are the types who think facing intense levels of guilt and shame, heightened by that audience, is "easy" or "doable", or they simply don't consider that.

Nick definitely seems like he has issues, but there's nothing wrong with talking about your SO flirting with people less. If you're in a committed relationship, it's completely okay to say "Hey, it bothers me when you flirt with other people, can you try to not do that?" The real red flag is someone hitting on other people despite knowing it upsets the person they're in a relationship with.

honestly if you think about them for more than 2 seconds a lot of the early questions just aren't that bad, like mark said in one of the other eps, these are all presented without context. i think most people would be glad to have their parents out their house, there's a lot more to it than just if you love them you want them to live with you.

Llewelyn is the anglicized version of the Welsh name Llywelyn (pronounced Lou-Ellen). This name is generally a male first name and not a last name, so my guess is that the captioning got it wrong. Llywelyn the Great was a Welsh prince during the 13th century who managed to unite all of Wales against the English crown.

I don't think it's actually that hard to win moment of truth. I think where it does get hard is that they're asking questions that change day to day, and polygraph tests are busted. Asking Conjetta if she regrets getting back with Nick is going to totally depend on how she feels in that moment. You can have doubts but it's truly about how she feels when she's taking the polygraph test. Also, a lot of the questions rely on Nick and her mom's view of her. Yes, it's terrible that she cheated but the show is trying to hold her up to be a saint, as if she doesn't have so many factors in her life that make her flirty. Kissing somebody or wearing sexy clothing (from Nick's perspective) is really not a big deal if you have a relationship built on trust. For people who are allosexual, this just happens sometimes. You can control your behavior but if a man did the exact same thing, he wouldn't be judged as much because "men are more sexual". I've never cheated on a partner. But I think these things can be forgiven, you know? Or just being aware that Conjetta is a very flirty person and deciding whether or not to keep dating her based on that. People are just like that sometimes, and if you want a super committed relationship you need to find somebody who can do that. It seems like Conjetta doesn't want to or can't, so really Nick has to decide whether or not he's okay with that, but there's no need to slutshame her for it.
@thedestroyasystem
@thedestroyasystem 2 жыл бұрын
Just because cheating “happens sometimes” for allosexual people doesn’t make it right. Cheating is one of the worst things you can do in a relationship, 99% of the times it cannot (should not) be forgiven because it exhibits an innate lack of trust, which is the foundation of a relationship. This is different if you’re in a non monogamous relationship, where the rules are different, and if she’s just “naturally flirty” she can seek out a relationship that allows that side of her to thrive. But when you’ve set it up to be exclusive and then your partner violates that, that trust is never gonna be fully recovered. “That’s just the way she is” is not an excuse for shitty behavior. She is an adult. She can either control her impulses, stay single, or find a relationship that fits her desires. This is not to say that she should be slut shamed or that Nick is 100% in the right; neither is true. He seems to be overly controlling, she is allowed to wear whatever she wants. But ffs, break up with your partner if you want to sleep around/flirt. Their relationship seemed like a disaster anyways.
