I don't share many of the sentiments here. A true test of an actor is to play a character that is far removed from you the person. I understand the decision based on personal beliefs and morals. But you could show versatility by play a gay role. It depends on the story line too, I mean you're not gonna kiss a dude etc. But non pda roles. Tom Hanks did a phenomenal job in the movie Philadelphia, and I didn't view him less of a man afterwards.
