If Lars wasn’t such a fkn egomaniac you just might’ve heard some really superior bass playing on these albums…. Fkn Lars turns the bass down and his drums up in all the mixes, to a point you can hardly tell there’s a bass….. you HAD TO see them live to appreciate Jason’s abilities

@@Glostahdude It is Jason decision to leave the band, instead of focusing on the work. Don't need to blame Lars or James. Sure, Jason is a great bass-player, but ask - WHERE IS all Jason bands-projects he works after Metallica? Jason work on any of it for 2-3 year and then get bored and moves to next project. As a result - no success, but many short-lived nobody need projects. If you are part of Metallica, there is no place for things like this.

Even in the backstage videos you see them walking to the stage and Jason was basically running, Lars described him as "an energy bomb of a kid". And James said he was a true performer "he was a great force, he would sweat , really sweat, he put a lot into the live shows we gained a lot of respect for him when we started touring with him" however I don't believe they actually respected him, I believe they liked what he was doing but took it all for granted. He even wore a metallica t shirt on stage 90% of the time and when asked about it he said it was basically for support and advertising, I forget his exact words but basically describes it like wearing a team uniform and usually the biggest selling shirts at the shows was the ones he was wearing (advertising). He literally did everything he could to do his part, I never seen Rob take over vocal duties like Jason would at times. I seen a show in the 90s where Jason did the entire song of seek and destroy at first I was like wtf is he doing?, get out of there and let Hetfield back in and by the end of it my friend looked at me and said "that was even heavier than James singing" and I couldn't disagree , Jason was on fire and he sounded like he was so pissed and ready to rip someone's head off.

@simongunkel7457
@simongunkel7457 Жыл бұрын
@@christianhowell3140 Well, I think playing with a pick gets a bad rep from people who are doing it badly. I'd always reccomend starting two finger alternate picking for beginners and even more so for people who switch to bass from guitar. Your picking hand can take over some of the muting responsibilities and you aren't tempted by muscle memory to play guitar licks - you have to fulfill a different role in the band and guitar licks generally don't make good bass lines. Then you can start to have the fretting hand do more of the muting and when you can do all the muting with the fretting hand you can grab a pick and learn to play bass with a pick as an advanced technique. But you have a lot of players that were the worst guitar player in the band get "demoted" to bass and when they play with a pick it means they haven't really learned a lot about bass playing and certainly not the techniques you need to play picked bass.
@christianhowell3140

@@simongunkel7457 that's certainly involved, I'm in the metalcore scene and every bassist I've played with was originally a guitarist LOL but I'm more referring to boomers who see ANY bassists with a pick (even super accomplished ones) and say "WHY DONT YOU USE FINGERS??!?! Can we all agree that Cliff was the best in putting so much of himself into the music that it couldn’t be replicated again. Jason was the biggest fan of Metallica and live he was incredible with the Backing Vocals just gave more depth especially And Justice For All.

I love how moving forward we can always feel good about Jason being real and sticking to what he believed in. That’s what metal is really about. Believing in something and not having others opinions affect that

Jason bass is true metal, male, with definition, without compromise, solid, in function of song, without fancy, he is one of the last metal bass warriors...

He went into a record store back when he was young, went into the import section and they had Motorhead, and that's where he saw that Lemmy used a pick. It was one of those record stores that actually showed customers whether or not the bass players on their records used picks to play.

Jason can't replace Lemmy (nobody can), but he is talented enough to join Mikkey and Phil to keep Motorhead playing Rock'n Roll in some kind of Motorhead's second life
