We’re watching Ted Lasso and Shrinking and I just now realized Brett Goldstein was producing this. Love both these shows! 🙌

I loved this show but I do have some problems with it that I would have liked to ask them about. What is the catalyst of Jimmy’s journey from being the “psychological vigilante” to being a normal ethical therapist again? Why did he decide he was all done with his crazy approach? Do they sincerely realize why what he’s doing is wrong? It felt like the change of heart came out of nowhere and was a little jarring. This show is truly incredible though. The cast kills, the writing is so sharp and the whole show feels like a warm hug. I just wish it had more conviction and thematic coherency and resonance overall. Sometimes plot points don’t fully resolve themselves and just end up forgotten about, like Jimmy’s involvement in Alice’s crush on Sean. I’m so thrilled that this show is already cleared to come back for season two and I think it has a really bright future.

To me it felt like "losing" Sean, i.e. Sean not viewing him as a therapist was the point where Jimmy realized that his approach wasn't working. His vigilantism was an overcorrection to to him not caring, not being involved and the realization over time was that he did need to open up (not about himself, but towards his clients) while still keeping boundaries. Every failure was not only further proof that he went too far but also that the writers know it was too far. The heavier his transgressions, the worse the outcome (Grace, Sean compared to Alan, Steven).

I think its congruent with the timing of he's relearning to be a parent with restablishing healthy boundaries as a psych. Makes sense to me. Although I hope they move him out of CBT and now into a Humanistic Approach. That would make more sense

This show was fantastic. Season 1 ended perfectly and it could have been the only season, but I am happy it will be returning for season 2! Absolutely the “anti-Succession”. That show is awful.

Agreed! They might’ve written the season to potentially end as-is before they knew it would get renewed. How I Met Your Mother did the same thing with its first season.
