I think my favorite scene, besides the two most obvious ones (the sleeping bag kill and the cryofluid kill) is the one where he’s fighting the badass, black army guy, and stabs him and the guy says “it’ll take more than a poke in the ribs to put this old dog down” and then Jason stabs him again and the guy says “Yep. That’ll do it”. 😂. And the fact the guy goes out by turning himself and Jason into shooting stars? Bad. Ass.

I've only seen this one like... once? Maybe twice. I just haven't had the same desire to rewatch as I have had with the other ones. Now that we're at the end of the "Kane Hodder saga" I feel like the reason why so many fans like him the most is because they got him the most.

Man I loved Jason's first look in this. For the first time since 4, he looked human. He had grey hair which tells us he can age. He doesn't have that acid on him that looks like a monster. Wish more of his Zombie Jason movies had a look like this.

Its a good stand alone movie In my opinion. Just like Jason goes to hell, both are good movies by themselves.

To me this movie feels like it knows it’s a silly movie with a silly concept. I personally love it sure it’s stupid but at least it doesn’t take itself too seriously like part 9 does.

People obviously didn't get the idea that this was a deliberate comedy.

My take us that beyond the scary fun of Jason becoming a superhero is that realizing that he is an enigma you can't keep a titan down even if this was a buffer for Freddy v Jason it was what f13 fans needed for some fun

this film didn't contain one scare for me, but I love it. the shame is this film was re-written while being filmed, and has no semblance to what the original script called for.

I liked how they finally addressed his unique regeneration abilities.

The reason Part 9 and this one didn't have 'Friday the 13th' present in the title was because of issue rights with Paramount since they were New Line Cinema films. If paramount allowed New Line Cinema to use 'Friday the 13th' in the title then both would be named 'Friday the 13th Part IX: Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday' and 'Friday the 13th Part X: Jason X'. That's why the remake had 'Friday the 13th' present as the title cause it was made by New Line Cinema and Paramount. See what I mean?

I've always enjoyed this. It's ridiculous, but it's a horror icon in space to get a budget for Freddy vs. Jason. That can either lead to disaster or insane and awesome results. Fortunately, this movie is able to give the audience some good (and sometimes unique) carnage candy. That, and the fact that it isn't taking itself seriously, makes it a fun time.

Fun fact, Lexa Doig played an android and Lisa Ryder played a human being in the Andromeda TV series, here in this movie the roles are reversed, while the TV series is playing on TV.

One thing I notice that Sgt. Brodsky and the robot give Jason more of a fight. If you include the destruction of the space station... this movie is where Jason has the most kills.

Man you are more patient than me. I tapped out after VIII and tapped back in for the remake and I actually think there are interesting elements to that one that people overlook but I guess we’ll discuss that when you post that review ah I’ll go ahead and say it I think dannelle panabaker and Jared padeleki could’ve been really good protagonists they just weren’t given an interesting story to play with or any other interesting characters to play off of. I liked the vendetta aspect of the padlecki character and danelle should of been the final girl.

Great review Cody, you always deliver great content, I wasn't a fan of this film or JGTH, New Line hadn't a clue what to do with the Jason character, the actings awful & Jasons looks especially Uber Jason reminds me of a power ranger. It has a couple gory kills but overall for me it was another weak entry in the franchise.

Also, while I enjoyed Kane Hodder's performance in "Part VII", even I'll admit that he really wasn't able to deliver any iconic over the top kills aside from the sleeping bag and even that was more slapstick than splat stick. His other two films aren't really anything to write home about. "Part VIII" was a slog to get through, so the kills don't have that much an impact and "Jason Gose to Hell" had other actors take up the great kills there, given what the premise was. HERE though, his Jason is allowed to cut loose.

Once again, just like with Jason Goes to Hell (1993), New Line Cinema used their rights to the Jason Voorhees character to make another sequel, but was unable to legally include 'Friday the 13th' in the film's title, as Paramount Pictures still owned the trademarked title. While this film was a critical and financial failure in its initial release in theaters, it made more than triple the cost of production in DVD and post-theater sales. Statistically, It is one of the most successful 'Friday the 13th' films. Despite initial negative critical feedback, over time it has become more popular among younger fans of the franchise, mainly for its self-deprecating humor and inventive death scenes. The film only suffered a couple seconds of cuts/alterations to earn an "R" rating, making it the least censored entry in the entire 'Friday the 13th' series. Jason Voorhees' eyes never blink when they are shown. The first film in the Friday the 13th series to rely on digital effects for death and gore shots. Betsy Palmer was doing a play in Toronto at the time Jason X was filming. According to Palmer, one of the producers contacted her about possibly reprising her role as Pamela Voorhees, most likely in the holosimulation. They did not come to an agreement, and the character was not included in the film. at around 1h 21 mins) The music played during Jason's first look at the virtual reality Camp Crystal Lake is the same musical score as the one in Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981). One of the things which won over everyone to the concept of Jason in space was the idea of the crew seemingly killing Jason, only for him to be recreated into something even scarier via futuristic technology. The mechanism of this change ended up being nanotechnology. Once David Cronenberg came on board, he quickly noticed some problems with the script, and began rewriting most of his character's lines. According to director James Isaac, one of those lines was "I want him soft" in response to the request to have Jason cryogenically frozen. Screenwriter Todd Farmer based much of the film on Alien (1979), even naming one of the characters (whom he also played himself) Dallas, after Tom Skerritt's character in the Ridley Scott film. Kane Hodder's final appearance as Jason. Ken Kirzinger assumed the role for Freddy vs. Jason (2003), while Derek Mears took on the role for the reboot Friday the 13th (2009). This makes Hodder the only actor to play Jason four times. New Line Cinema loved the script so much that they gave the film three times the budget of the most expensive previous film in the series (which had been Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989), with a $5 million budget). However, during production, the budget was still wasn't big enough for creating many sets and effects, leaving many scenes in the script to be changed, or taken out completely. Although the movie was shot on 35mm film, it was then transferred to high-definition video to aid in the creation of its extensive and elaborate visual effects shots. This made it the first feature-length film ever to be completed entirely in the digital realm. Because Jim Isaac wanted the acting in his film to "blow every other Friday movie out of water," the rehearsals were videotaped on a camcorder for Isaac, who would then view them afterward to get ideas from seeing his characters in action. The problem was that, with all the script re-writes, a lot of the time Isaac didn't even know if what the actors were rehearsing was still going to be in the movie. Producer Sean S. Cunningham said what he loved about the script was they weren't telling the exact same tired old story the films had been retreading for 20 years. The character Adrienne is a reference to Adrienne King, who played Alice Hardy in Friday the 13th (1980) and Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981). (at around 15 mins) The space debris floating in space has "Cunningham Realty" written on the side. This is a reference to the name of producer Noel Cunningham, the son of executive producer and maker of the original Friday the 13th (1980), Sean S. Cunningham. The name "Tiamat" comes from Babylonian mythology. She is a goddess of the sea, who was slain by the god Marduk who then formed the land from her carcass. In Andromeda (2000), Lexa Doig played the avatar of the ship's artificial intelligence and Lisa Ryder played a crew member. In this movie, Ryder is an AI construct and Doig joins the crew. The scene when Jason snapped Sven's neck was originally a much quicker snap in the script. Kane Hodder felt it's been overly done and improvised the kill by having Jason instead slowly break his neck until you'd a crunching sound as he's twisting and squeezing his neck. Several of the characters in the film are named after screenwriter Todd Farmer's online friends in the PC game EverQuest (1999). Jason X" is the first "Friday the 13th" film to be rated "15" in the UK. Although "Friday the 13th" parts 2, 3 and 6 were originally rated "18" they were re-rated to "15": part 6 in 2002 and parts 2 and 3 in 2008. Adrienne's death is based directly on a death from season 1, episode 23 of The X-Files (1993). Roland, who is possessed by his deceased brother in the scene, kills a scientist by dunking his head in a barrel of liquid nitrogen and then smashing his head to pieces on the floor. The character Waylander is sometimes referred to as "Wayland". Like the character named Dallas, this is also a reference to Alien (1979), with the Company in that series called Weyland-Yutani. There is even a "Kane" (the Alien's first victim) among the cast: Kane Hodder, who plays Jason. Über Jason doesn't have a face under his mask. If he did, it wouldn't fit in his mask. Kane Hodder just had contacts that match his eyes put in. That way, the mask could hide Hodder's face while filming the movie. The character Janessa was originally named Jessica, after producer Sean Cunningham's sister. Colin Cunningham, who worked on this movie's visual effects is a frequent guest on the movie review KZfaq site Red Letter Media. An episode of Re-View mentions this during their Friday the 13th series review shows. at around 38 mins) In the scene where Dallas is smashed against the wall by Jason, the stuntman who did this actually broke his nose. In the scene where Stony opens the door and gets stabbed to death and his blood sprays in Kinsa's face, she screams. Melody Johnson's reaction was real. According to the audio commentary, the effects guys weren't supposed to spray the blood liquid into her face and it was accidental. She was screaming not because she just saw her boyfriend die, but because the fake blood substance was burning her eyes. The take was kept because of Johnson's authentic reaction. at around 1h 23 mins) The "sleeping bag death" scene was first done in Friday the 13th: The New Blood (1988). Jason repeatedly slamming the bag may refer to the fact that Kane Hodder had to re-shoot the scene in 'The New Blood' over and over, because the bag with the dummy inside was so heavy that he couldn't get it to look right. The shot that appeared in that movie was the final take, after Hodder got so frustrated and angry that he finally nailed it. Stoney's original death was supposed to be Jason slicing him in half with the sliding doors, but they thought it would be to hard to do so they switched it to the machete stab. Brodski is the second male character (and first African American) to kill Jason, the first being Tommy Jarvis. Rowan shoots Jason at the beginning with a Mossberg 590 Compact Cruiser shotgun.

Hate and despise this film. It's just insulting to fans of the original. It has no restraint, no understanding of how to build suspense and the acting...Yikes!

Jason X is a go to for simply entertainment reasons! I love the Uber Jason, and yes the whole thing is over the top, but that is was what it was intended to be and I loved the Todd Farmer smirks throughout the movie. Yes, I do enjoy Todd Farmer’s adolescent writing here and in My Bloody Valentine remake. Two of my favorite movies and much to do with Farmer. I didn’t see this movie in the theater and bought it on DVD and the three movie New Line release when it cam out because it is fun! More fun and enjoyable than Final Friday and I like the escapism more in this than in, (go ahead start screaming) Freddy vs Jason. I can out this in and just enjoy it, enjoy watching David Cronenberg act and get the shaft! Total pluses but again, I am a child of the 80’s so maybe I needed a breather more than most, but love this movie!

Freddy could've worked in space too. COULDN'T be worst than Freddy's Dead. Had they kept the seriousness of the first few films and just brought him to space (around earth and not some futuristic bullshit) since astronauts have nightmares too, it could've been something to think about. It would've probably been ridiculous anyways, though

Like Jason takes Manhattan, this was an entirely Canadian cast and you can tell. It was much lower budget and had a made for TV (Canadian tv by Canadian actors) feel to it.

Sorry Cody, but if you include Freddy vs Mason, this is my 3rd favourite in the series. I love the story and the characters. I honestly remember most of them well and thought the whole thing was a fun movie that hit all the right notes. I laughed more at this film than at any of the others. 9 out of 10 in my opinion. But hey, you say tomato and I'll say tomayto!

I don't mind this movie and it's a guilty pleasure of mine. Maybe because it was my very first Friday the 13th movie that I actually saw before the other ones. Jason X is an entertaining blend of horror, sci-fi and comedy. The best way to view this movie is to simply not expect it to deliver anything and just sit back and enjoy it for what it is: a slasher flick! And for being that, it's quite a fun ride. I always have fun with it.

I believe this is a guilty pleasure for me as well Cody. You get those decent on-scene kills and some excellent practical effects, but those god-awful space effects make the Sharkado movies look Oscar worthy.

Yea, I agree about the terrible CGI. I think this movie could have benefited greatly if it was made in the 80's instead of the early 2000's. There's nothing charming about early days CGI. Practical effects, even if they are more on the cheap side, will always age better, and not be as jarring as bad CGI.

Oh it’s my guilty pleasure for sure. Loooove this movie just because it didn’t take itself too seriously, it’s was fun and such a cool ass concept for a Jason movie. Friday the 13th series really has some of its best moments when they switch things up. Like making Jason the killer in the first place. Having him return when originally he was supposed to stay dead. The new mask, when ever they change something up it becomes iconic.
