Part 3 of the build from my Basic Armour Modelling series, this time we tackle the Tamiya 1/35 Sturmgeschütz IV (Stug IV), this tank is an older model from Tamiya, dating from 1970 but still holds up well with good fit and a good basic level of detail.
In this part we tackle the weathering using oil paints and pastels to give a nice weathered look to the tank.

Great series....thoroughly enjoyed it! As a more experienced modeller it's a reminder of those simpler techniques which are oft forgotten but still usable. Good job, Jason so bring on the next one.

Great series, recently took up modelling and this series is brilliant, modeled when I was a kid but that was 30 odd years ago! First model I'm working on is an English Electric Lightning but ordered the Panzer II and will follow some of your techniques and hopefully improve my results

I'm new to AFV modelling and have received a Stug IV for Christmas. After watching all three videos of this series (several times) I'm about to start my build and will follow what you did step by step. Hopefully I'll end up with a vehicle just as good as yours. Thanks for the inspiration.

You did great job of showing how to make a not so expensive model look like a very expensive model. Thank you for all the useful information, I will be using some of these ideas.

I'm just about finished with my Stug build and there are a lot of new techniques that i have learned from watching your videos to make a very competent looking model. Thank you very much sir......and for those who have played Company of Heroes......STUG LIFE!

Looking forward to the Churchill. I built the Tamiya 1/48 Churchill a couple of months back and it was an outstanding kit. Went for the Crocodile variant which is pretty cool. Bloody long tank!

*Soft technics and a very nice result, it's a "clean" model and so what? It changes models that are too much "wheathered"! 👍*

So many models have weathering covering up a shoddy build. This model has been constructed to a high standard which definitely shows. A well built model always looks far better.

Whats the procedure for applying oil paint washes diluted with white spirit over acrylic paints... Apologise if i missed you telling us previously (:>)

Hi, would u let the oil weathering dry before applying the pastels?

Yes otherwise it could mix with it and cause issue 👍

After the pastel weathering, would i lock that down with another mat coat?

You can yes but I don’t tend to, depends on how much you handle it
