+Jason Lanier hi Jason quick question , i decided to get the same gear as you a7s and a6000 though only have kit lens for them both , need to shoot a wedding but on bit of a tight budget , what other lens would you recommend , thank Jason, really appreciate your videos.
@RobertoBlake
@RobertoBlake 8 жыл бұрын
+steven G I would recommend for wedding on a budget you either rent a lens or you get the 24-70mm F4. Yes I know pros poo poo it of the F2.8 but at weddings you would probably be shooting at F 4 anyway. Get that and a 50mm F/ 1.8 and you are good go. Put the 50mm on the A6000 and shoot the bokeh shots and us the A7S with the 24-70.

I bought my A6000 thanks to Jason Lanier and his video with 10 reason why he switch drom nikon to sony. Many of may friends and collegs thod me that I make a big mistake buying Sony until they played with my camera and saw what this little beauty can do. Its a amazing camera and i will thank Jason Lanier all my life for that. I have 3 years as lighting designer and 5 years as TV director so, i have some experience in working with lights, composition, editing, cameras to know what to look for in a DSLR that i need. After 1 month of searching all tutorials, forums, online stores for the best cameras for weddings I camed up to 2 DSLR for starters Canon 70D and Nikon D610. Thank's to Jason 2 days befor my order I saw his video on 10 reason for switching to sony and i saw in that video that Sony its a far better solution. I started photography 2 months ago and after 1 week i had my first wedding shoot with a DSLR from canon when a friend asked me to come help. He liked those photos and he thold me to try this road of photography cuz its beautiful. After buying A6000 3 weeks ago i had 2 more weddings and i found that its one beautifull amazing camera and i love it. This little beauty compansate for my lack of experience in shooting photo and with "live preview" and my TV experience i cand understand faster what and how to take the pictures that I want. Jason Lanier and Joe Buissink are the 2 photographers who inspire me and for that you have my gratitude. Thank you guys for showing me the way. Jason Lanier, I hope one day i will have the honor of meating you.

after i saw this video almost 4 years ago, i sold all my Nikon stuff and loss over $12,000 from reselling and moved straight to Sony and never looked back. Go with better quality, and more options that will make your job more efficient, stop being stuck on names and being loyal to the camera companies you started with. Thin and spend smart!

1. Nikon does NOT use only Sony sensors! Nikon makes it's own sensors for some of top models, and some of the other Nikon cameras are using Toshiba sensors as well (D7100, D5200...and it gives better IQ than the previous Sony models and all current Sony Alpha models except A7 range) 2. Did you fire SB-910 in TTL mode with your Sony camera? Or it works just on manual :D, in the case that SB910 can't do TTL with Sony, it's just a nice agent of fortune piece of expensive jewlery on top of your camera, because it's unusable for weddings and run and gun shots when you do not have any meaningful connection with camera, exept that one pin which shoots randomly at the manually given strenght, on Nikon using manual Speedlights only is a piece of a cake, but on Sony :D 3. Can you record 4K video internal on your A7s or you need a external recorder able to do the task? Ok, I know that external recorder is needed and A7s CAN'T do internal 4k recording on the memory card but just to clear that out in front of the people. 4. Number of lenses available from Sony? Maybe you do not see in this inbetween all Sony hype, but Sony bodies in this state are actually made for third party Lens makers, in this case Nikon, Canon and, the number of available Sony lenses is ridiculous, and if you want to put anything a little bit better you have to do it with converters. 5. Which concludes that with Sony, in order to function properly as with Nikon or Canon you got by default :D, you have to add the price of different lens converters into the sum. 6. Nikon was a bit slow with introducing Wi-Fi, but D5300 and D750 have it, and it functions same as with Sony or as with any Wi-Fi, so it's not much of advance for Sony. 7. Do you find Sony EVF useful for quick shooting, is it prompt? :D And do you get the same ammount of quality as with DSLR viewfinder? 8. Presumably I want to buy Sony A7s for High Quality video shooting :D, and it turns out that despite superb low light ability and possibility that it shoots 4k video only on external device,I find rolling shutter even on wide very problematic. Now, despite the fact I can't even think about filming fast moving objects due to distortion it would cause with this sensor, the only way to reduce the rolling shutter a bit is to record video in a crop mode which automatically dimishes all the FF DOF beauty. And mind you, the rolling shutter with A7s is terrible even in Full HD mode, which draws to a conclusion that with 4k recordings where the much larger portion of a slow sensor is used, it looks really bad even with a glitch of movement. Of course, It surely look wonderful with a 500$ tripod planted fest to the ground in stationary scenes, but even with normal panning speeds it doesn't look that good anymore. 9. Tilting screens...those wonderful tilting screens, I agree with you on something, wheter one is PRO or not PRO a tilting screen is NOT a pro feature, and EVERYONE needs it because it makes filming and shooting fom the tricky angles much more untrickier. But let's clear something up. The only useful tilt screen is a FLIP screen, so those found at D5100, D5200, D5300 are the best tilt screens any DSLR ever had (regarding feel to the eyes about resolution and possible positions of the screen), Canons versions found on 60 and 70D are not so good regading the visual feel, but they're also flip screens and that is important. And there is a bit more of that...on a6000 you have to order a customly made backplate for your beloved tripod in order to completely use already very limited tilt screen movements by default, so due to very bad engineering decision, a tilt screen is almost no tiltable in one position when a6000 is on tripod. 10. Smaller cameras ARE not invigorating and expanding your artistic creativities, qualities and freedoms...those are solely based on the fact wheter you have a talent or your talent is only a learnt subject. Besides a Pro who switched from Nikon to Canon because "Canon Pro body is flat like his MacBook Pro", this is the lamest reason for switching from to any other camera brand I have ever heard. Btw. Nikon D5300 is better camera with normal flip screen and better overall (except speed) than Sony a6000, and it costs a bit less.

This video inspired me to buy the a6000 as a hobbyist photographer a few years ago. I’ve since upgraded to Sony full frame mirrorless and have people asking for me to shoot them professionally every weekend. I’ve made every dime I’ve invested in my gear back and then some, I never imagined I’d be able to make money doing something I genuinely enjoy. Sometimes I like to come back to this video and look at the ridiculous comments some people left and then think about how far the industry has come since. Sony being a leader, Fuji coming up stronger, And Canon and Nikon both releasing full frame mirrorless cameras within the last year. Jason saw the industry changing and called it right.

Actually i have been following this post for a while now. My thoughts are that its just a photographer changed his camera from one brand to another. Comon guys, even artists in the past (music, painters, writers, etc) dont compare what they use. This is all just being childish. Just because someone wants to change their camera brand doesnt mean anything, he just feels comfortable using whatever he chooses. Just be polite and take it easy, no need for much debate.

Wow, so many haters on this thread. Jason is just saying why he personally changed to Sony. For him it is the right choice. If you disagree then buy what you want. It kills me that there are so many people that are die hard fans of a particular brand and start saying things like he is paid by Sony etc. Everyone buys a camera for their own needs. True there are now canon and nikon cameras that have the features Jason was talking about, but not at the time when he bought these cameras. A camera is just a tool, and the person behind the lens is just as important , if not more than the equipment they are using. Personally I have shot with Pentax, Sony, Canon, Nikon etc and to me it's all about what comes out of the camera, not about what name is on the front. Weight to me is also a prime consideration and as well as owning a nice canon 7d, I also own a tiny Pentax Q7 that is always on my person along with 3 lenses. That is a very freeing experience and means I can take shots anywhere I am. The 7d is for serious shooting and the pentax Q7 is for fun. How many people take their cameras everywhere with them? Thinking of upgrading to to A6000 for much better quality, but at the moment the Pentax Q7 complete system can fit into 2 coat pockets without a bag in sight. That's eight lenses 4 batteries and a camera without a bag in sight. That is what is right for me. I'm not a professional but I love photography, I'd rather have a camera with me to take any shots that happen to arise than be without a camera. The best camera you have is the camera you have with you.

N1T3MAN1969 Well said! Haters usually only hate because of jealousy, insecurity or they're just miserable people. There's also a lot of people that are terrified of change. The industry is indeed changing and you can either start understanding that or get left behind. Thanks for the comment...:)

Jason Lanier to be honest i changed partly due to this video but also the sony gave me what i want somthing smaller than my canon 600d but full frame. THE IMAGE QUALITY IS STUNNING if the auto focus a bit slow but hay you cant have it all and im sooo happy with it. Any way its all personal preference the important thing is what you do with the camera not what camera you have.

you shared the pros of these cameras pretty well, i know if i start talking anything negative you just defend by saying this was only your opinion, but then again, newcomers might run out and buy this camera after watching your opinion-vid, how about i throw in some cons for people to weight about: *Autofocus can be slow in low light *Limited selection of FE lenses *Adapters for using other lenses might be limited to manual focus only *Long viewfinder blackout time *Longer-than-average startup times (2-8 sec) *Camera 'locks up' while buffer is clearing after continuous shooting *Short battery life *Menu arrangement poor and navigation a bit clunky (requires a lot of button-pressing) *No external charger included After you vid, i really wanted to like the sonys mirrorless, and thought this could be my backup or party camera, i started reading reviews here and there, and the result, i got to say made me want to wait, maybe a few years until these mirrorless cameras really have taken over before i dare to throw away my dslrs.

@JasonLanierPhotography
@JasonLanierPhotography 9 жыл бұрын
manbolo2 No it means that many of the things you mentioned are myths and aren't true. Autofocus is no slower at night than on my Nikons. FE lenses are doubling this year to over 15, adapters are available that offer auto functionality and open up all the Sony A mount glass, viewfinder black out is only while the actual shutter is down and only occurs when doing long exposures at night when you wouldn't need it anyways, all cameras lock up when the buffer is full, short battery life...the batteries cost far less than other camera batteries. So go and buy some more...what's the big deal? It's worth having a far lighter camera body. Menu arrangement...I truly prefer it to Nikon, no external charger...the cameras are 1/4 the cost of other cameras. Go buy a charger for $50. THAT'S what using them everyday will tell you that the reviews won't. People have NO CLUE.
@manbolomo
@manbolomo 9 жыл бұрын
Jason Lanier okay, ive been up almost all night, reading/watching reviews after reviews, i got to say, im starting to feel more for the sony now. Im sorry for the slightly rude comments, but in my defense, your vid was really looking like another fanboy/advertisement vid rather than a true review or advice video since you only mention the pros of the sony and kind of bashing on canon and nikons top end cameras. Im an interior/estate photographer, and after my 50d just rounded up to 230k in shutter count it was starting to "fall-apart", and since the 5d mkIII is so expensive, i had to go with the 7d mkii, also for the reason that i also have 2 little kids that i need a fast AF camera for. You mentioned the A6000 which really sound like an affordable and nice little camera, but now that the a7 ii is out, what are your thoughts on it and generally A7, A7s, A7r and A7 ii?
@manbolomo
@manbolomo 9 жыл бұрын
ofcourse everyone have their way of adapting or way around when the product is not good enough, the point was just to bring in the cons. Most of the points he made in the list im sure most dslr users also can live without or work around. for example, i like my camera heavy rather than light (but putting a 70-200 on a A7 make is no longer a light camera right?), i dont need wifi, but if i want i can use weye feye, i dont like the lock up after continous shooting because i might miss other moments like when chasing children running around playing, one shot might not be good enough. But before i did my research, i didnt know that the A6000 in fact was a pretty cheap camera for all of its features, but getting up to the A7 ii the price is no longer cheap neither are the lenses, so i get it all boils down to preferences.

Any camera in the right hands can create magic. The camera itself is only a tool to help you acheive your vision, no different from a hammer in a good carpenter's hand. Funny though I've not noticed any carpenters posting videos debating if Eastwing should be considered a tool for 'professionals' or not.
@diversedad7954
@diversedad7954 5 жыл бұрын
I have also always said my camera is just a tool. The truth is a camera is far more complex than a hammer. There are so many features in these cameras that we learn to depend on and we get used to the way they work, as a pro especially it's scary to switch to something completely different. When you have an AD and client looking over your shoulder and you are being paid to produce imagery that can be difficult to capture, it can be very intimidating to try a new system. Videos like this are a huge help. BTW I do commercial photography for a living and love to do carpentry as a Hobbie. I own a lot of tools and I also watch many reviews on those tools too. When I'm spending money on a tool I want the one that makes my life as easy as possible for the best price.

I am not looking for an argument, but I do want to clarify that your statement is false, unless you have some reference to show what you're saying

I'm a long time Nikon fan too (saying Nykon really makes my ears hurt btw) from my first F1 in the 70s. Got a D1X cheap, what a brute that was but hell of a camera. Now was thinking 2nd hand D600, but the Sony A7 2nd hand is tempting, it can use all my old Nikkor glass, weighs less and is not some brutish piece of male jewellery. I'm sure many amateurs buy these big dSLRS just to look macho. So this helps convince me.

Jason, I have watched this video a minimum of 6 times over the past year and at least 3 times in one month. I am still at a loss where all the hate is coming from. You never said anyone needs to leave the brand they love and you never badmouthed Nikon or Canon yet a couple days ago I saw a video with a guy ripping on the man that made the video “10 Reasons why a professional photographer left Nikon…” WELL all I can say is keep the videos coming brother, I am seeing more and more KZfaq videos of professionals that are either switching or giving great reviews on the Sony Mirrorless line of cameras. I attended one of your seminars and you know that I am new to photography. I was using a Canon 70D and after watching this video I took a chance and bought the A7 (love it) Now I have an A6300 (love it more) and I use almost exclusively. Just wanted to publicly say thanks for the advice.

Great video Jason. I have a Nikon D300s and a D750 but want to buy a small "pocket sized" camera for a tour I'm planning to China. The Sony A6000 looked like what I needed and your video was amazing and convinced me that I had made the right choice. I love that you show the A6000 essentials and provide objective comparison with the Nikon/Canon bodies. Well done, and thank you !

I decided to comment after reading many of the posts below. I shot film with a Pentax K1000 for 30 years just as an advanced consumer interested in photographic "art". I ended up documenting my extended family's life like most of us do, trying for technically good shots when I could. Fast forward to 2013, I bought my first DSLR or, to be precise, a DSLT a65. After much research, I decided on Sony because of price and innovation. There was also the fact that Almost all Nikon sensors were made by Sony, so why not use their other technology. There was also the lure of all those great Minolta A mount AF FF lenses that were available. New camera technology with fine, old glass! In camera anti-shake. What a combination! I became re-enamored with older, manual focus lenses, but was dissatisfied with using adapters with glass to be able to correct the lens to focal plane distance, as that glass was/is of inferior quality. The came mirrorless cameras. The a6000 was my choice to solve that dilemma. Not only does it do everything Jason enumerated (focus peaking, live view, etc.) but one can hang almost any old glass with an adapter and shoot like you wish you could have 40+ years ago. Super Takumar 135mm 2.5 and 50mm 1.2, 1.4, 2 lenses are still as sharp today as they ever were with fantastic new tools to make sure one captures the best image! Rokkor 50mm 1.2 to 3.5 lenses, 58mm 1.2, 100mm2.5 and Zeiss, Leica, Canon, Nikon and almost every other type of manual focus lens. Experimentation made easy and painless. The fun is back in photography! Great video, Jason!

I have been shooting with nikon for about 4 years now. I had a 3100, and now I have a d7100 that I absolutely love. Two days ago I came up on a great deal on the a5100, and I was blown away. I opened this link with the mindset of defying anything you said. After watching to half way, you made complete sense and continued to make sense. DSLR's will never die so quick but mirror-less is gaining ground fast. I had the opportunity to shoot with a Samsung NX500 and I was blown away. For an amateur like me to have the financial reach of something that so highly spec'd is mind blowing! Great video!

Right now I don't have the money to switch, but for like the past 6 months I've been telling people that I want to go to sony, and when I do people always look at, "well that's weird". But if cameras were invented today everyone would have EVF's, everyone would have built in wifi, and no one would put a mirror in their camera! Just like from film to digital, so too with DSLR to Mirrorless. Stay with what you know and get left behind, or move forward!

Jason Lanier Well I did it. I went to KEH and calculated how much I could sell all my Cannon gear for, and now I have a Sony A6000! It is really amazing! Today I let my wedding photographer friend play with it, and over and over again he would want to change settings to make it more like a DSLR, I thought it was funny. Because with the mirrorless system you have to rethink why and how you do everything with your camera! Furthermore, I can't right now afford the nicest glass, but I have several old sharp, manual focus lenses from my dads old stuff. EVF focus peaking is truly awesome! I know people say lenses are more important then bodies, and I agree but this body opens up a whole new world of lenses to me!

Hi from México. I bought a Sony Alpha ILSE-3500J/BE38, looking for better technology. The camera's hot shoe quit working a mounth and a half later, so I sent it to repair. Even when the Sony's warranty paper tells you they won't take more than 30 days to repair the camera ... they took ¡Almost two months! ¡2 months for a hot shoe! I called day after day when realised they took 3 weeks and no explanation, just a phone girl who asked my name and all my custom information, always promising they will contact with me by mail or phone ... It never happened. All I got was no explanation. So go and buy an Alpha Sony Camera ... and pray it don't need go to service, or even better ... have a Canon or Nikon camera to keep working until Sony two months later, maybe more, repair your camera.

Really enjoy your videos, Jason. Like you I've been shooting Nikon for years, almost 35 to be exact, my father shot Nikon, and my grandfather was a press photographer in New York City who also shot Nikon. I lugged my D800 all around the world then just got tired of the weight so when the A7RII came out I bought one, used it for a while, then sold all my Nikon gear. I'm really enjoying shooting with this camera and for street photography it just doesn't get any better, flip up screen, silent shutter, 42mp, can control via iPhone, etc etc. I still love Nikon, but after the divorce I'm now very happy with my A7RII. Keep up the great work, Jason.

Believe me, I love the A7s. But I don't agree with your points. First off, I am using Canon, I have all the Wifi functions you have and I never use them. To the wedding scenario: Don't you edit your pictures? Focus Peaking: Never missed it from the Blackmagic I shot with. Zebra: I do indeed see if my picture is overexposed. EVF: I think they are equal to Opticals. The give more options in low light and video, but the opticals have no lag and help me much more with the framing. Card Compatibility: Never had any problems with Canon cameras. Also, you can shoot in Kelvin with every Canon out there currently. The little features are really unnecessary on a Pro body because nearly no Pro will use them. The pop-up flash is totally unnecessary. I have never used it, I have never used a flash at all. I am happy with the light. The mirrorless cameras aren't better at image quality than any Canon or Nikon Pro body. Both can produce amazing images, just the way you take them is different. Both camera types have their place in photography. I can't really say much about Nikon because I haven't used their cameras in a long time. Sadly these flaws, your language and the way you present the video make me feel like you're not a pro.

MiXterioVlog Saying that I'm not a pro means you haven't learned what Google is....try it out, you'd be surprised what you see. That's a ridiculous and demeaning statement which is why I can't take the rest of your points seriously. The first thing pros do when they see, hear, read something they don't agree with is to take a cheap shot at the person saying it which is what you did. I don't need your validation to know that I'm a pro, but it did display your ignorance.
@MiXterioVlog

Jason Lanier I'm saying you're not a Pro because you generalize all Pros using Nikon or Canon and you look down to them. You think that you're better but you're not. Also the A7s isn't better than a D4s or an 800D or a 5Dmk3 in certain ways. There are things that are better but also things that are worse or things that are a preference, like the DVF for example. You just force your opinion across and I don't agree with it so I criticize you.

Answer: When I travel and I want somebody who is not an expert to take a picture of me, they can't use the freaking Manual control, and there are just so many arguments like this one that force me travel with 2 cameras. Great video! I've been a pro for over forty years, and have collected several ranges of glass that I couldn't bear to part with. My present kit consists of two Nikon and four Sony bodies, plus lenses from Nikon, canon, Sony, and Pentax. And guess what.... they ALL fit my Sony A7. I totally agree with everything you said, but I'd add an eleventh reason for myself, that the evf can also be switched to give a full brightness image irrespective of exposure, which can see better than the human eye in really dark conditions. Nobody seems to pick that one up in reviews, which is sad! Also, I have particularly small hands, despite being six feet tall, and find the likes of the D4S to be just too big for me to hold for any length of time. The Sony cameras are all much better for me ergonomically for that reason.

The Canon 6D which was launched before this camera was even announced let alone released has a much superior and better iPhone/Android app for live view and instant sharing. The A7's live view is very sluggish in comparison to canon's which has very little latency and almost simultaneous. So was a bit bold to knock Canon in particular for the instant sharing, social media aspect.
@JasonLanierPhotography
@JasonLanierPhotography 9 жыл бұрын
craig fullbrook I haven't used the 6D, but I use the A7S every day. The live view is amazing on it so I don't know what you mean by it being sluggish. Perhaps in the future I'll post a review on the comparison between the two. In regards to the social media...my point is simple. Sony includes this on even the NEX5R, or the A6000, which cost $600. These are essential and basic functions that should be included on every camera. Nikon and Canon have been REALLY slow to the game with these features..
@craigfullbrook7219
@craigfullbrook7219 9 жыл бұрын
By sluggish, I mean the tethering between the camera and device you use isn't exactly instant which is evident in this video when you demo'd the live view on your phone. The same applies to the 6D however live view transmits a much faster refresh and update rate than the Sony when using remote live view on the 6D IMO. A comparison test could be helpful if you really wanted to justify your opinion about the Sony being superior, although it's just a gimmick little feature that in a real world situation is effectively pointless. In essence if you were walking the streets and wanted to grab shot, it takes 1 second to bring a camera to your eye turn a camera on and click, as a posed to switching you camera on launching the Wi-Fi option and getting your phone out connecting the app and then having to compose, too much faffing about. I merely use the feature for selfies and occasionally shooting star trails when its too cold to sit outside with the camera. Regardless of our differences in opinions the A7S and 6D are both excellent cameras, however I consider myself a bit of a purist and I prefer shooting film and rangefinder systems so EVF's, focus peaking, live view, high burst rates aren't my bag I prefer a bit of challenge. I enjoy manually metering, composing and using my depth field scale when shooting. If Sony released a stripped back version of the A7S with a rangefinder coupled viewfinder but kept everything else the same it would be right up my street :) as sensor on the A7s is incredible.

@helluvagoodtime2
@helluvagoodtime2 8 жыл бұрын
+B. Schultz your post is entirely based on an ad hominem fallacy - you simply attack the character of the angry photographer, but you haven't addressed a single one of his points. Here's my thing: I hear all the buzz about the new mirror-less systems, and I really want them to be as great as everyone says. I WANT them to be equivalent to the jump from film to digital. But I can't find a single source that says a mirror-less camera can produce a better image than a Nikon/Cannon DSLR. So ultimately it looks like this whole debate boils down to whether or not you want to buy the new flashy tech gadget. Sell me on the idea of a mirror-less camera, so that I can justify dumping all my pro Nikon gear. Can a sony A7 produce better image quality than the Nikon D750/D810? Does a mirror-less have better contrast, color-depth, or sharpness? DxOMark ranks the Sony A7R II at 98 and the Nikon D810 at 97, and that's on a logarithmic scale - which means that the scientifically verifiable difference between image quality of the two cameras is almost nothing. And this holds true for the whole nikon line-up compared to the whole sony line-up. So if the mirror-less cameras are going to give me, literally the exact same photos, then why is this such a huge leap forward in camera technology? Nikons have wifi and tilf-screens too, and the size difference is negligible once you've put on the lens, battery pack, flash, etc. So what is it that is so magical about mirror-less? What would you have Nikon and Cannon change about their current line-up to make them more competitive?

I love Nikon. They make some of the best cameras out there. But Nikon and Canon aren't addressing the needs of new consumers. They are missing out on a growing market. Mirrorless cameras aren't necessarily better than DSLR's but they do come with some great advantages in size and features. At the end of the day the camera you use is only a tool and the camera doesn't make photographer, the photographer makes the camera.

Nicolas Labra depends on what you're trying to accomplish. As far as landscape photography, no. As far as sports photography, lots of room to grow. It's only a matter of time.

Nicolas Labra , for still photography, no. Mirrorless are on par, if not better. For sports, DSLRs AF is still hard to beat. Mirrorless has closed the gap in image quality (definitely) and low-light high ISO (so close). Now, it just needs to cover the AF for sports.

my nex 6 has been very good to me. i have sisters with big dslr canons and when we are on vacation some days they dont bring their cameras on hikes because (1) the canon dslrs are too heavy and big, and (2) they know im going to get amazing shots with my tiny kickass mirrorless. sony is the new king of photography, not even leica can hang.

here where I live people judge photographers not only just by their image quality but also their gear, and mostly the size of the cameras and the lenses. I use a sony a6300 with my 55mm Zeiss lens to do portraits and the clients still look down on me since the size is too small. Eventually they went for another guy who use a Canon 600d/t3i with his kit lens. His photos are nowhere near as good as mine but because his gear size is bigger they think he is more professional and more reliable. Do you have any suggestion for me about this case Jason? How can you change the clients' mind, and get them to pay you?

Why don't u proactively ask? I always ask - can you believe that this small toy can compete in the big league. If you mention the price of the lens as well, they'll get impressed. People like numbers. Give them those!

no problems man :) I shot a festival with it this weekend past, and all the photographers lugging around massive Canon 5D with battery grips and Nikon D4s were amazed I was shooting at ISO 10000 at 1/500 for motion blur free stills.. unbelievable man :) thanks again for this video

yes! yes! it hurts to hear the truth, specially when you're a die-hard fan of Can and Nik. Trying to argue to defend their stuff, but deep inside, the truth hurts. Thanks for the video. It's been proven correct many many times and it's still hard for some people to accept that they got kicked in the ass by the one which is more technology oriented. Way way advance!

I for real think this is an important eye "opener" of 2014 John Pozadzides . As a total photo amateur I have only owned and used mirrorless or semi-mirrorless cameras for about 7 years. For that period I have taken about 50.000 shots (just counted when I migrated my total Picasa collection from my old windows PC to my new Mac and yes I'm using Picasa from Google - because I'm not into photo manipulation beside tagging, cropping and leveling) . 7 years ago I only could afford a camera with a cmos sensor (not full frame) my choice was between different DSLR's and "fixed" compact cameras. The DSLR's had speed but not features and the compact cameras had features but lack off shutter speed (from turn on to shot and between shots). I went for the features but chose the closest I could come to a DSLR by getting me a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50K (lots of pixels, crazy zoom, tilting screen, live view shutting and electronic eye view of course). I couldn't get any of these beside the many pixels in a DSLR camera at that time. But now we see tilting screen and live view in almost every DSLR produced (from Nikon and Canon - but why are they not inventing anything new for the masses?) It looks like Samsung and Sony (maybe LUMIX/Panasonic) are the most innovative in the Photo business beside what we see coming from phone cameras. And Nikon and Canon could be the next extinct dinosaurs if they choose not to get more into the "game" and starts considering alternatives for the moving mirrors which I only can see as an old reminiscent from when SLR's haven't gone into the digital age. And when the photographer wanted the WYSIWYG "what you see is what you get" shutting experience that a mirror could give. This is exactly what the electronic eye viewer as Jason Lanier also mention it gives. For the record I changed my LUMIX to a Sony a55 (the first semi DSLR which matched the LUMIX features but now with changeable lenses) and then later to the Sony a77 which I've got today and hey where else can you get a camera shutting 12 shuts per second in that price "range"?

so many people think that DSLR's are the only way to go, but once you switch you realize that Holy cow, mirrorless is the way! I love that I can see my photo before I take it and can make adjustments and see them happen before I shoot! I'm happy to see that a professional feels the same way, it's even more encouraging.

Great video and explanation. I wish I had the means and time to reinvest but alas, too old and limited income at the moment. Who knows what the future holds? I will surely love a smaller, lighter more feature laden camera body when the opportunity arises. Thanks again for all your videos, I have learned so much from you. Take care. Oh, and SONY! why would someone who shoots in RAW care about kelvin? I get that you need a certain white balance to achieve a certain look but with RAW close should be enough and the camera can you get you close without manually adjusting for kelvins
@zampination
@zampination 9 жыл бұрын
***** Jason Lanier claims in another video that setting the white balance right from the camera is better than readjusting it in post in Lightroom. True or false i can't tell but i trust him if he says so. Adjust the kelvins till you like what you'll get and then take the picture

zampination It really doesn't make a difference. He might care because he might shoot video as well. It matters if you're shooting video, unless you've got one of those atoms ninjas and can shoot Raw video, then it doesn't matter.

It took a few months to get into, still have not used all of the features, but this camera is really awesome in low light situations like night clubs. I plan to get the A7R next. I thank Jason for this clip, his reasons sold me on it.
