You are so innovative. How you come up with these technique is mind blowing. I am electroplating artist because of you. I bought the info and the material. In fact it should be coming today. Thanks for all your dedication to this media and so willing to share with other. ROCK-ON brother!

I've seen some people using stainless steel as the cathode. Why do you choose lead?

great video... but am concerned that a 2.5 gal aquarium is a really bad choice here. these are so fragile, looking at them funny can crack them. Thin, non tempered glass is no match for metal or heavy graphite electrodes. IF you are going to continue with this, at least cover the bottom and sides with clear adhesive film. it won't prevent breaks, but it will help contain the mess. Putting the entire cell assembly into a Tupperware basin that will hold 3 gal of liquid would also add to your safety. The non conductive polyester bags are a great idea... something used in the plating industry for years. they will also contain sludge you might get off your electrode.

In Pakistan we are getting mirror finish on stainless steel by electroplating process with sulfuric acid , Phosphoric acid (industrial grade) & glycerin

Interesting !!! And in what proportions of each material? And it serves for nickel and silver baths too?

Hello and great thanks for all the knowledge you have passed on to your viewers! Have a question! I have built a tank to electro form my lead bullets (50/100 at a time) with copper (depending on size/weight). Now I like the process that you showed on electro polishing versus dry polishing because of the brightness and the thin cleansing of thin layer of copper. The question to is… can I use my same setup to electropolish the bullets in the solution that you should in the video? And would I still use a lead anode to cleanse the copper? Sorry, for any confusion on the the question! And, your results are awesome!

Hi Jason. Is this still your preferred method of polishing? I'm having a hard time getting brighteners to work well for me with pieces that would be hard to polish by hand. I'm interested in trying this but wanted to see if 2 years later, you're still on the electro-polishing wagon.

I tried copper plate 316 stainless in both copper acetate and copper sulfate solutions and both work, it's just tricky to find a good settings, I'm all new to this stuff after all. I tried 4 stainless surfaces, 1 brushed, 1 machined, 1 sanded with 320 grit sand paper and 1 brushed and welded with oxidation layers on it. They all seem to plate well but so far all my plating is dull, don't know why

It works but be really careful with the electrolyte. Stainless steel has chrome in it and when you electropolish you turn it into hexavalent chrome which is really really bad. Dont dump it down the drain.

Hi Jason, here Rodrigo from Chile ¿How do you manage fumes from the solution, specially when its get warm? I´m feeling my DIY lab more acidic smelling and the table top soapy. I´m using 3M filter mask (acid fumes) but I´m not sure if it is enough. Thank for your great KZfaq Channel

DANGER! DO NOT DO THIS AT HOME! You need a leak catch tank under the fish tank - which do seem a little fishy, by the way. And holding that 200A clamp in Your hand while dipping...? Are You suicidal?

Jason, looking around for common sources for chemicals, I see that soft drinks contain phosphoric acid. Maybe this is an alternative that you can try in the electropolishing bath.

@@devendernath4013 I got "Methanesulphonic acid is commonly used in the electroplating and metal finishing industries" from Perplexity AI. I haven't done gold electroplating. I have used sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid to dissolve gold from ore and it's not kid's play. I'd say the chemicals are too dangerous for a kid to start playing with. You need gloves and a proper respirator mask, or air vent hood, or you do it outside in the open air, away from people, pets, property... and arrange to control the electrolysis bath from a distance, i.e. extension cord, if you don't know what you're doing. And, keep in mind, if you don't know what you're doing, you could dissolve those gold ornaments, instead of the anode! You'll need a chunk of gold for the anode. I've electroplated copper. It doesn't always deposit smoothly. It can deposit like tiny balls. That won't be a good look for your ornaments. Just sayin'. What you're thinking about doing is not a safe or easy DIY project.
