Awesome video man! - new subscriber here 👍. I just brought this lens super excited to use it. You mentioned the possible need to have another len like the 50mm for different visual compression. How does this lens work with the aps-c mode that the A7iii offers? Could that be a quick fix if you didn’t want to swap out lenses and wanted a slightly different look? Hope that makes sense hah

Great review - I enjoyed it a ton 👍💯 From my perspective, the Zeiss Batis 25 mm 2.0 could be an interesting alternative. I own both and their characteristics are very different.

Hi Javier! Which lens can you recommend for video filming (b-roll, commercial) Sony 24mm f/1.4 G Master or Tamron 17-28mm f2.8? I'm really worried about GM auto focus (it seems to be slow to adjust / react on focus) and missing optical zoom to, but GM seems to be better at blury background and colors.

Noticed you used the lens on A6400. Would you recommend using it on A6400 (or APS-C camera), given that the equivalent focal length is actually 34mm? Do you notice any quality differences when used with A6400?

I have some pretty good lenses but the 24mm G Master is the one I use most, especially on a gimbal or when shooting most video. It is well worth the money and the 1.4 is a very handy tool to have. Night shooting with it is incomparable with any other lense I have used.

Great video! I’m seriously considering getting the 35mm gm 1.4 for video, but I’m concerned with the focus breathing that you and many others have pointed out. How difficult has that been long term? I’ve read sony released a focus compensation update with the a4, but not sure if the a7s3/fx3 will get that update.

I haven’t had too much of an issue, all of the talking head shots in my recent video are from this lens and didn’t seem to be a problem. Especially with eye focus.

For video sometimes manual focus is preferred, I.e. if there is linear manual focusing. In your experience is the manual focus linear and easily repeatable, or focus by wire and not repeatable?

Depends on budget, if I we’re vlogging I would go with the 16-35 first because it gives you more flexibility. But definitely not pointless at all, you will use them both for certain situations

It’s a prime lens so it does not zoom in and out. The only way you could kind of achieve this is switching a camera from full frame to aps-c , but if that we’re the case then I would just zoom in post

Is this entire review is entirely shot with a a6500? So everything you're referring and as seen in the footage to as a "24mm" is actually a 36mm equivalent? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope all the footage is my a7iii + the 24mm , full frame. You just see in the talking head me holding my a6400 because I wanted to put it on a camera while I showcase some of the physical features.

50mm, best budget for what you get. Then I’d look at the 24mm depends on what you shoot though, think if you need tight shots or wider ones more and go from there

You would have to get the camera pretty close to fill the frame with small toys. It would be great for if you are on camera interacting with toy during a talking head though.

The autofocus is really bad for the price. I see alot of focus breathing. That's not high end at all.

I think it has more to do with the camera than the lens. I point this out in the section at 7:21 . The lens won’t breath if you know how to setup the autofocus. Setting up a zone or using the eye tracking on the new a7siii will give you great focus all the time.

It's so not worth putting this GM lens on a crop sensor dude ! Save some money and get the sigma 16mm f1.4 that lens is made for a crop sensor !
