- Veranópolis, Rio Grande do Sul - Brasil.

Love the big FN at the end. It's an illustration of the dead-end ideas that were pursued before the original Jeep showed the way to do things. Of all of these, though, the Indian 841 is my favourite.

Moto Guzzi made a 3 wheeled military machine in the 1960s. It had a 700cc V twin and 3 wheel drive. The engine later got used in road bikes www.bikeexif.com/3-wheel-motorcycle

@Irvin Hoover Indeed, but, correct me if I'm wrong, but they're not for military use. Vehicles with 3 tracks aren't any good off-road.

The FN, the last bike figured would have been a rough old ride for the rear passengers.. Sort of reminds me of a 3 wheeled Jeep.. Great that it has a reverse gear. Wish more bikes had reverse gear.

I don't remember what year the sdcooter was but it was from the late 50s. The motor was bad on the Cushman Eagle he had bought for my uncle who was 6 mos younger than me. He took off the Cushman motor and put a 16HP Tecumseh 4 stroke engine on it and it would really run. It would keep up with the big Harleys on the highway. It was a two speed and he changed some of the pulleys and put on twin belts. The motorscooter would smoke the rear tire as long as you wanted to hold the front brake and when you finally shifted into 2nd gear the rear tire would actually start squalling and peeling out again until you either got up to speed or backed off of the throttle. It was an awesome running scooter.

With some of those machines produced in massive numbers, relatively few ever survived? From watching the Russian videos, they really do make an effort to preserve the equipment left over following their endless war years. The Russians appear to take great pride in their abilities and creative genius, required to bring the equipment back to life :)

How can you say that the HD XA was one of the best motorcycles of WWII? Only 1000 were made and 500 of those never left the States. The other 500 were slated for the war in Africa but arrived too late to see any action at all. The same thing is true for the Indian 871. They were both oddballs of low production that did very little towards the war effort.

Interesting video. Some comments though Many very important WW2 bikes missing. I'm no expert but I thought of the BMW R50/2, the various Adlers. the Triumph 500 twin, the Royal Enfield and the Russian R79. All these were very strategic vehicles made in large quantities. Your HP/Din figures are almost universally wrong. On the British bikes it looks like you've user the MOT Registration and Tax figure (calculated from the piston diameter). I can't figure out where the errors on the other bikes came from.

There's a few. They made a ton of them. I had a DKW RT 125 Deluxe when I was a kid in Germany in the 70s. 1951 with parts from 5 different years going back to 48. Sat outside for 20 years and started up with minimal cleaning and ran forever. I was 13 and did all the work myself. The only thing I bought was a battery from the local Audi dealer.

There is a story often repeated so there must be some truth to it that a “Cargo Cult” (look it up) came into possession of a “Quonset Hut” (look it up) full of these Harleys when the Americans left their island and are still riding these around to this day

Not an expert but it's hard to believe that BMW and Zundap were making motorcycles in 46 or 48 since the war ended in 45 unless the allies were making them?
@theq-1
@theq-1 4 жыл бұрын
They did, in low numbers under control. Dont forget BMW and Zundapp were private companies under state control. Zundapp was all but destroyed but they did make some old stock KS750s, 205 in 1946, 78 in 1947 amd 68 in 1948. Also some KS600s numbers 521001 on. Then KS601s. BMWs returned under russian control in 1946 initially and later became AWO and EMW by 1950 ish.

I bought a 51/48 DKW 125 RT Deluxe when I was a kid in Germany in the mid 70s. It had been sitting in my classmates back yard for 20 years. I paid 10 Deutsche Marks and was 13 years old. We cleaned the carb and spark plug and bought a new battery from the local Audi dealer and that thing started on the 3rd kick. We beat the hell out of that bike and it never broke down.

Get it right. The Italians abandoned thousands of tones of vehicles and weapons when they retreated from North Africa in a big hurry. The British, whose supply lines were over extended by the speed of their advance used abandoned Italian vehicles to give chase to the retreating Italians.

@@therealrobertbirchall In Ethiopia many Italian officers abandoned their personal cars. The British had great fun racing about in Maseratis, Alfas, Lancias etc. until the powers that be decided there was a war on and sports cars were too dangerous!
