This old good time when listening music was much way to harder ... and very DIY in the search of bying or getting some fresh / new record... For me it was with the help of a very small local radio... some older dude to me took the 🎙 to share lot of HxC, Punk HxC and... “one hour of pop punk” to open their schedule at 12 o’clock (am) and after game punk hxc post HxC Emo, screamo (discover ENVY, YAGE, GAMENESS ...) and HxC... (and for the history, after this cool skate 🛹 crew playing in a Emo/screamo band, some much older than this skate dude came and spread some brutal / death / grind / gore / scandinav melodic like at the gates ... and this was fire ! Great old time around late 90’s début 00’s ! I hope, one day, meet all of this dude to show my respect to follow the dark side and discover lot of incredible band from fugazi, to envy, Finch, Will Haven, or Less Than Jake, Snot, NOFX & friends, rancid.... converge, cave in, NEUROSIS (who I ve travel from France 🇫🇷 to London, To saw their reunite show since ... 90’s in Europe... I was only 15 y/o and jarboe was there too.... top 3 live show I’ve ever see in my life ... now I’m 33, saw thousand of show, hundred of festival !) Hahahahaha... Great time of my life ... miss this insouciance time

This album but even more so the Busy EP bridged a musical divide that separated many people I knew, way back. Sadly one(of many) of those very special people just crossed the road into nowhere and im not sure ill ever be completely past it. This album and some of these songs will always remind me of hard/better/tougher/happier times and im thankful that I have the opportunity to relive them through this music. Its a funny thing how music can help us re-experience so many emotions in such a way that those people and places still feel very close. Thank you for writing these songs, theyre special.

fun fact, there is a video from like 2001 of blink during the take off your pants and jacket tour, jamming out to "bad scene" in a tour bus, so yeah i think that shows they were totally down with JB also, sorta blink related, more or less, matt skiba said that jawbreaker was the biggest influence for the formation of alkaline trio, he liked that sort of aesthetic of just having a three piece band and he was really inspired by the fun sound they but emotional depth in the lyrics

back in the 70s early 80s we kept it simple. It was either american or british punk. All the categories to classify music in a particular genre makes no difference to me. Jawbreaker sounds great to my ear. I like them. This is all that matters. Unfun is an american punk classic.

The use of 'emo' was not really in common use, even if it was coined by some authors. This was hardcore/punk in it's time.
@AngrierGorilla
@AngrierGorilla 7 жыл бұрын
actually the term "emo" or "emo-core" was coined in the late 80's for Dischord bands like Dag Nasty e co. In the case of Jawbreaker (and similar bands) I remember that fanzines used to call this type of music emo-pop-punk.
@wickedlee664
@wickedlee664 7 жыл бұрын
John Linares I also bought this when it came out. The first record I got was whack and blight and let me assure you, we did use the term emo then. I remember maximumrocknroll doing a funny thrift shopping story called "emo boy goes thrifting" or something. We just didn't call this stuff emo. This was Bay Area punk rock. Emo was Embrace, maybe Dag Nasty with Peter singing ... Rights of Spring? Now Monsula started out like this but they DID begin to Emo out. I always marked it by the broken down bests and weepy guitars. Honestly, I've never in all my years known any real music fan robust the word emo as anything but a joke. And I love all that cry baby shit.

of course, my mistake. I don't even know why I commented since the term connotes that maybe hardcore wasn't emotional but emocore was. But there definitely was a change in feeling to a less aggressive music I can't really say when I first heard the term but it definitely was still in the 80's .
