Locomotive unable to pull train due to wet rails. Locomotive wheels slipping on rail. Locomotive wheels spinning on slippery rail due to heavy train and poor railroad maintenance. I filmed this on Tuesday October 27, 2015 on the Peavine Line. This is Cincinnati East Terminal Railway CCET which is owned by Frontier Rail. You see them bringing in a long cut of empties and attempting to bring back 10 loads. It started raining, which made the rails slippery and the sanders on the locomotive where not operating. In addition, they were low on fuel! As a result, the train stalled just as they left town so they cut off 4 loads and tried to take 6 loads to Sardinia and double the train. However, that did not work and they stalled with the 6 loads so they had to leave them a mile west of Winchester and return light all the way to Broadwell Rd, Newtown! Close to 90 mile round trip just to refuel the locomotive! The next morning a truck load of fuel came and they were back in business. The locomotive returned and pulled the loaded railcars back. I made this video with KZfaq Editor. However, they did away with KZfaq Editor after I made this video. That removed all of the annotations that I had in this video telling you what was going on along with the locations and time. That happened to dozens of my best videos and now I don't know what to do about it other than repost the best one. Thanks a lot YT. Tabbed 11-26-17 with 7875. Thanks for watching! In my career as a locomotive engineer PC, CR many a time when working an outlying yard with no engine house personal available I'd use my wrenches to take apart the sanders and remover the little rocks the eventually clogged them up and get them working again. Takes about 30-45 minutes and so worth the time invested. Good working sanders can make the day's work a pleasure versus slipping all over trying to get a cut of cars moving. Power was usually an old GP-8 or if I was real lucky a GP-15 which were less than a year old and oh so nice to run.

Jawtooth, Congratulations on doing such a nice job producing this video and all the others of yours that I have watched. Takes a good man to get nice steady shots. Some other vids, with shaky camera work, make me "seasick" almost! Looked at this grain elevator on Google. Trackage off the main line does not look great in the satellite photos. Looks like a nice place to be very CAREFUL! I love these old lines that are still hanging on. Keep up the great work! I am a recent subscriber but a nice FAN already.

+Jaw Tooth Brian I am going to be taking my 1st train ride on January 16th. I am so excited about it and can't wait! I've been on subway trains before in New York back in 1988, and a Lil train at Busch Gardens, but never these kind that I love so much. It's Amtrak 97 Silver Meteor I will be riding on it goes 100 miles an hour. I asked my Mom was she scared lol. I just hope I don't feel the speed lol. I am so excited though. I just love train! And after watching all of your great train videos as well as many others, I just have to finally Get on Board!! 😉
@JawTooth
@JawTooth 8 жыл бұрын
Vlog Channel That will be a lot of fun. Fast trains are exciting to ride on. Theres not many places in this country where they go that fast. I have never ridden one that fast. I think the fastest one I have been on was around 60 mph. Maybe you can bring your camera and film the scenery flying by.

This video is so old the video playback was doing funny things to power poles, engines, and rolling stock. :D I figure the encoding was affected by something that changed between then and now, gotta love seeing flex-o-matic power poles, engines, and rolling stock! Wasn't too bad so I enjoyed it very much! :D

That was the old KZfaq Editor. It was terrible. I wish I could get my video back to its original state and redo the video with the current editor that I use. KZfaq Editor did that to a lot of peoples videos. It is caused by trying to remove the shaky parts of the video. It sucked. I bought a new camera with built in stabilizer in stead
@DarkVoidIII
@DarkVoidIII 4 жыл бұрын
@@JawTooth If you had the original video it could be uploaded again. That said, having large amounts of drive space for video uploads is often not feasible for the casual KZfaq content creator. You did what you could! Have a wonderful day regardless! :D

Hard to believe that they couldn`t move 10 cars. I guess slick rails show just how important a little sand is, not to mention fuel weight as ballast. It would appear that they ran every day this week as best as I could tell from looking at the rails on Olive-Branch Road.
@JawTooth

raindrops keep falling on Jaw tooths they keep falling! I feel for you out in that rain but some buddy got to do it! so you got elected. Locomotive slipping due to poor maintenance I`ve not seen trains in Oregon or Washington have this problem but maybe because of UP, BN, SP, GN, keep the rails in good working order. it rains here a lot, in 2018 we got 56 inches of rain at my house and so far for 2019 25.35 as of 7-26-19. so you could live here you know, you would be one wet puppy! anyway, awesome video, stay out of the rain.

How far does the main line go beyond the crossing at the junction of the grain spur?
@JawTooth
@JawTooth 7 жыл бұрын
That crossing is at MP 57.7 and the line goes to MP 105 where it ties into Norfolk Southern main line near Portsmouth Ohio. They haven't run a train past MP 63 in a few years but they are planning on reopening the line to MP 78.45 to service a quarry once the tracks are rebuilt. Thanks for watching!

You'd think that rusty rails would grab the wheels better. But either way the amount of rain is irrelevant, other than just keeping the rails from drying.

i would think it save a bunch of money to hire a local fuel jobber to bring out 2000 gal or fuel and fuel the locomotive rather than dead head 90 miles let alone the extra pay in wages. let the engineer ride back with the MOW crew. i dont get that. they could have fueled the little switcher at the same time? no?
