Lyrics:
God I wish somebody would told me when I was younger
That all bodies aren’t the same
Photoshop, itty bitty models on magazine covers
Told me I was overweight
I stopped eating what a bummer
Can’t have carbs and a hot girl summer
If I could go back and tell myself when I was younger
I’d say, psst
I know Victoria’s Secret
Girl you wouldn’t believe
She’s an old man who lives in Ohio
Making money off of girls like me
Cashing in on body issues
Selling skin and bones with big boobs
I know Victoria’s Secret
She was made up by a dude
I wish somebody would have told me that thighs of thunder
Meant normal human thighs
The fucking pressure I was under
To lose my appetite
And fight the cellulite
With Hunger Games like every night
If I could go back and tell myself when I was younger
I’d say psst-
I know Victoria’s Secret
Girl you wouldn’t believe
She’s an old man who lives in Ohio
Making money off of girls like me
Cashing in on body issues
Selling skin and bones with big boobs
I know Victoria’s Secret
She was made up by a dude
I know Victoria’s Secret…
She was never made for me and you
Raised in New Jersey by way of New York, Jax got her start by performing a wide variety of genres and in bands growing up. At the age of 18, she developed cancer above her vocal cords, which returned following a couple months of remission right as she relocated to Los Angeles in pursuit of her music. Left unable to sing herself, Jax turned to songwriting for others and found industry success behind-the-scenes. As her ability to perform returned, Jax needed to pivot yet again when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. This time she turned to TikTok, posting a hilarious response to the pop gem “Stacy’s Mom” from “Stacy’s Mom’s Perspective” which exploded with nearly 9 million views in just a few months and follow-ups including “Update from Avril Lavigne & Sk8er Boi 18 years later.” She continued to go viral a dozen or more times over, having now amassed over 9.7 million followers on the platform and over 155 million “likes” to date. With a massive online audience under her belt, Jax began sharing her own original music in late 2020 to an overwhelmingly positive response - ultimately leading to her signing with Atlantic Records for her forthcoming debut full-length.

My prayer is this message becomes a major eyeopening revelation for all women of all ages to not look for their identity through anyone else's eyes, lens, filters, opinions or anything else other than the very heart of their own being. I found this song today, and it’s already one of my favorites. I love the message about fighting weight based insecurities. Although I’m a guy, and have never suffered anything like anorexia, I was chubby in middle school, and HATED my body. Then I lost weight to be healthy going into my freshman year of high school. Throughout high school, I was pretty thin, but I was still heavier than a small handful of my friends. Despite the fact I was on the thinner side, my weight based insecurities came back with a vengeance during my junior year, recreating a struggle that I still deal with almost two years later. Despite countless efforts to feel good in my body, I still have a hard time loving the body that I have. It wasn’t until about a month ago that I started making progress when I decided to listen to “Perfect” by P!nk. It was the first time hearing the song in seven years. From that point on, the lyric “you’re so mean when you talk, about yourself you’re wrong. Change the voices in your head, make them like you instead” has always stuck with me. Whenever I feel insecure, I try to remember that lyric. Thankyou for making this song, not only to inspire young women to reject societal Views on weight, but also all the other youth (boys and girls alike) to not give into what fast fashion says about beauty, but rather on their health and happiness.

This comment made me tear up a bit. I love P!nk so much. It sucks that society also makes you feel bad about being fat, not only in shopping malls but in school and love life... I learned to accept that, but it's not okay.

Those are for reasons and surely an everyday challenge to keep convincing yourself - means you have such capability that many of us might not be able to bear :] ! - Copied: "Anyone gotta be aware that being skinny is Not skin and bones like this song pointed out. Or big, curvy, whatever - is a blessing as long as it's nature/gene and healthy. Altho this song reminds me of 'Am All About That Bass' by Meghan Trainor; sounds hypocrite to me. 'Skin and Bones.' Tryna lifting up self by mocking others bcs a person had/ has been a victim of bodyshaming (or actually a "victim" of his/her own low self value by keep seeing medias 'perfection' standard which hardly avoid) but then he/she is doing the same shaming; hypocrisy? It vocals the insecurity crisis; covering up wounds with insult. Don't let it fool us again. Meghan Trainor then doing work out to lose weight (for her own good good after selling 'Big and Beautiful' strategy. Medias (entertainment, etc)- are actually, mostly, doN'T give a Fuk about our health/ wellbeing and how they "indirectly" often twist the 'Big and Healthy' movement with, 'If you keep mad eating junkfood- Do it!"- movements. We mostly just a target. Market field. *'Skin and Bones.' Sadly, the innocent/ naive teens/ kids are possibly will remembering (brainwashed) such degrading insulting term Whatever your shape; you are healthy and you love it? That is great. Stand firm regardless the trend. If you don't like it? Stop the bodyshame and change it for *your own good.* If it's hard to change for various factors; don't mock others bcs it speaks volume of insecurity and No offensive degrading act will lift ya up Nor fix our selfesteem ever. Never work that way. Ever." - No mock speaks safety :] If ya wanna glam ourselves; Do for the good and stop bodyshaming for self peace :]

A lot of us were that little girl, and most of us will never realize just how many people had the same experience and they’ll go about their lives thinking they were the only people who struggled with their body image at such a young age. I think most people have that little girl inside of them that still shows her face from time to time, trying to convince you that you’re too big to wear that outfit you love or that everyone who looks your way is making fun of you. But she’s been perfect this entire time.

From a more conservative minded (by nature, not politics) monogamously married man in his 20’s who very much believes in the power and importance of modesty, I can still agree with the message of this song. At first listen I was sort of like “okay another song about how men are oppressive towards women woohooo”, but then I thought about it from the perspective of my potential future-daughter. I don’t want my daughter growing up thinking that she isn’t enough because her “nose is too big” or her “boobs are too small.” That would break my heart. I also don’t want her growing up believing that these are the only things men see. But I think there is a deeper issue that maybe the songwriters didn’t even think about, and I think this song touches on it a little bit. There is certainly a balance between caring about your beauty (which is also okay) and obsessing over it. And I think social media teaches young ladies to truly obsess over it to the point of depression. I pray that my daughter is beautiful and understands the real meaning of beauty at the same time. Young ladies, please place value in yourselves outside of only your physical appearance. Physical appearance can matter to you, but there are other important parts of you as well.

This is such an important message. I’m 52. When I was younger I thought I was disgusting and fat. There's a pretty easy way to temporarily get rid of the cards, but to my knowledge it can only be done in the desktop version, not the app. 1. Hit f12 (or go to settings>more tools>developer tools). This will open up a docked area in the browser. 2. Go to the "Console" tab, and at the bottom there will be a place to type. Paste this into the text box: document.querySelectorAll(".ytp-ce-element").forEach((el) => el.remove()); The cards should disappear. There is a way to remove them permanently, but it's more complex and involves downloading software, so I prefer this. Hope this helps if you decide to try it!

Jax, can I just quickly say, I know I'm kinda late but I just really wanna say thank you for making this song. I turned 13 one month and 2 days ago, and I've constantly been telling myself that I'm ugly, and beauty standards for women (even though I'm a non-binary) don't make it any better. I've also been wondering if I should stop eating because that always seems to work. But then I just started belting this song, and oh my god. I really need this message, especially since now that I've just hit that stage of life, and with the media portraying women with unrealistic body proportions that I'll never have, and portraying "beautiful" women as pale white, straight, with blue eyes and blonde hair, and glasses? We don't know her. No pimples, either, because women have to wear makeup at all times, apparently. And as some scrawny kid with brown hair, brown eyes, the occasional pimple/bump/whatever, glasses and bushy eyebrows who constantly tells themself that they're fat, despite eating so much sugary stuff at school every day and seemingly not gaining a single bit of weight for some reason, who is also in the "Oh my god, I have to be beautiful and skinny or nobody will like me", this song was definitely made for someone like me. Thank you Jax, keep pumping out more bangers with messages like these, love you 💕

Yes you’re right! I heard this song on Tiktok today. The tune was familiar but I could not completely make out the lyrics so I came over to TY to find them. It’s good to see someone made a song saying Victoria’s real secret is she don’t eat enough and feels pressures to stay SKINNY! She’s a fashion victim. She’s living on boiled eggs and clear soup and half a celery stick and glasses of water. This ain’t good for her immunity. Or for the building of her pelvic bones to hold her baby when she gets older. She will need strong bones. She needs good balanced diet for having kids. A friend of mine used to diet constantly. Her sister got a anorexia nervosa the dieting disease. She herself dieter so much that when she came to have babies they told her her pelvis was too small. Fasting during teens can stunt the growth of you bones so you need a normal balanced diet to grow bone. Teenagers are still growing their bones. Keep eating normally teens. The chubby kids get picked on. The kids who are different cop all the flack. It’s cruel. It’s wrong. People sometimes over eat and gain weight, look fatter, clothing won’t fit any more. It’s hard to lose it. But you learn when you do lose a substantial amount of weight that nobody really cares but yourself. People are too busy focussing on their own jeans size! That’s human nature. So eat for your self, not because others pressure you. Look after your body and eat a balanced healthy vegetable rich varied diet. Water is one of the most neglected things we can consume and healthy!! Makes you glow, cleans the body.

I won't disagree, it's a GREAT song with not only a catchy beat but soo meaningful lyrics. But speaking of lyrics, i feel like they are a little bit too repetetive. Like the verse before the last chorus could've been something much better, it had so much potential of being a great bridge, but they just put the chorus in there. Other than that i love this song!

"I stopped eating, what a bummer," So did I, for years I only ate when I was being watched, and I was still never skinny enough, my cheeks hollowed out, I was tired and dizzy, but I still had a little tummy, but the BMI and the dress rack told me to keep getting skinnier, I wasn't good enough yet. This song makes me also wish I could talk to myself when I was younger, and encourage her to be healthy, and if we lost weight by being healthy, great! And if we didn't, accept our healthy weight! But, even now, I struggle to do anything about my weight but skip meals, which fun fact, you can still manage to gain weight doing, if you're eating the wrong stuff.

as someone who has been struggling with anorexia for a few years, this song is so important! whenever i feel like i'm not fitting the 'ideal' i'm going to play this. but when you think about it, it's actually insane how fucked up diet culture and society's beauty standards are! i was under and i still to some degree am under this illusion of what "perfection" is and i'm honestly mad about it. i've wasted years, experiences, moments and potential joyous memories all because i chose to listen! fuck. i was 12 when i first got admitted into hospital for my ed. 12 year olds shouldn't be worrying about how many calories their eating and burning nor what weight they weigh or how defined their collar-bone and jawline look. as a matter a fact, anyone, whether your 5 or 85 shouldn't have this fucking pressure! to anyone thinking they should "fit in" think of things like this. if you had a whole variety of fruit in a bowl: apples, bananas, kiwis, apricots, dragon fruits, grapes, ( controversially, tomatoes ) or even idk lemons. you wouldn't try to change and morph every single fruit into being like an apple for example. nothing wrong with an apple, nothing wrong with skinny people. but the problem is when you start pressuring and guilt tripping others for not looking like an apple ( being underweight ) or when you exclusively praise an apple and purposefully neglect other fruits for simply looking different! sorry that's probably a bad explanation but what i'm trying to say is ( with my terrible metaphorical skills ) is that we are all different and that should be impressed, not suppressed! thank you jax, i love this song.
@justonealien5613
@justonealien5613 2 жыл бұрын
I think that this metaphore is actually perfect. I spent 10 years underweight (I needed to gain at least 10kg to have a "normal" bmi), but it was not eating disorder, I was just made that way, but I thought that my friends (who have all different body shapes) were beautiful and that I was just a disgusting skeleton. But they all told me that they wished they had my body, because the society told them that they should be like me, underweight, and we were all insecure about the way we looked. And it's not only in USA, I'm Belgian and I know its the sale in a lot of European countries. I don't know about the rest of the world, but I guess there's a lot of other persons in a lot of other countries that are living with this pressure... I hope that will change, and I wish that this song will touch a lot of other people! I send you a lot of love ❤️

Your analogy made perfect sense 👍 Sadly, women around the world have been made to suffer for decades thanks to industries that thrive on insecurities. The diet, clothing, and make-up industries would all be perfectly viable if they chose to help people and lift them up... But they make infinitely more by telling us we're not good enough without their products. It also allows them to jack their prices up - because we'd give anything to fit in and feel normal. It's important to realise that NONE of that is your fault (or any consumer's fault). It's human nature to want to fit in, to want to feel desirable and liked. We're social creatures and there's nothing wrong with wanting those things. What is wrong (&, in my mind, evil) is that salesmen realised that these desires could be weaponised to make a lot of money - &, oh boy, have they done just that... We're very lucky to live in an era where we're able to fight back - & people like Jax, leading the charge, need our support. I wish you continued recovery, good health, happiness, and the secure knowledge that you *are* beautiful, loved, worthy, and enough 💕

@@tsutomumybeloved7411 i get you 100% its so hard bc now its even being taught in schools that this is 'good' and this is 'bad' is bloody bullshit. i want to be happy. but a friend of mine, her name is lou, she told me that she doesn't believe complete content and happiness is possible on earth. perhaps after death we will live in a place where sadness doesnt exist and we are content and loved by everyone around us. i agree with her. for years ive chased finding complete utter happiness but the problem is that doesn't exist bc for that to happen, everything would practically need to be perfect. is this world perfect? fuck no. its messed up asf. we cant change the world into being perfect bc it never will. what we can do is influence it in the right direction which is what people like jax are doing by making it apparent of how fucked up shit is. my advice to you is not to listen. dont listen to what that social media star said regarding her diet, dont listen to articles practically encouraging anorexia, idk maybe you do dance or ballet and they harmful things like "i can see your lunch in your stomach" and shit like that. 1# get the fuck outta that toxic environment. sadly its all around us but there are ways to mute it out of your life. for me ive stopped following social media celebrities like olivia ponton, kim k, kylie jenner etc bc they make me feel so shit abt myself and my life! i also speak to a therapist and journal down my feelings on a daily basis to track my mh and organise my thoughts ig. you could even pray to God if you want? you might not be religious but i mean it never hurts, it helps me so it might do the same for you? no harm in trying imo. i also try to watch things that dont make me feel shit lol like idk to give an example. i think diet culture when it first came, seemed so good i mean it was encouraging people to vary their diets into "healthier" options etc however that was the sugar coating. under neath that were horrid intentions. now diet culture sets limits, restrictions, rules etc that make life unenjoyable, trust me ik from experience. i think there is one good thiing about diet culture and that it urges people to eat from other food groups ( EXCEPT THEY TAKE IT TOOOO FUCKING FAR ). all food groups are healthy in moderation: protein, grains, veg, fruit idk im forgetting one lol wait diary! all this is essential for our body and down right delicioussssss. even french fries have nutrientional value that is very valuable to the human body. i even think exercise is great too! but in diet culture its used as a weapon against yourself when it should contrastingly enough, be something freeing. im slowly learning that exercise is about moving your body, feeling movement, to wind it your hair, the sun in ur eyes etc not a weapon used to punish yourself for the kitkat you ate. gosh i miss kitkats... i havent had one in years. hopefully i will overcome that fear food tho! sorry if i went a bit crazy lol idk i like replying to youtube comments but then one thing leads to another and im already like 200 words in 💀

Honestly I love big women, find them very attractive. I feel bad for the men and women who don't. They're missing out on such such beautiful people because they're obsessed with beauty standards. I agree with trying to be healthy and live healthy to live longer, but discounting people because of the way they look is just stupid. Not only should we recognize the beauty of people inside, we should be able to recognize the beauty of Everyone OUTSIDE and I don't think that gets enough of the attention imo. Focusing on who someone is is the best route, the best the things to reinforce, but body image issues don't just resolve themselves. People need to feel as attractive as they are. Not in spite of how they look, but in addition to how they look. My two cents.
