Buckle up! Jay Leno is taking us on a high-speed adventure through the streets of Southern California. Jay has a huge collection of fast cars, but in this episode, we’re really focusing on power to weight ratio. From the 1966 Lotus Elan to his 1994 McLaren F1, the lightweight sports cars on display look exhilarating sitting still. Two of these featherweights offer an unmatched amount of fun on the road, however. Capable of producing up to 300HP and weighing just over 1300lbs., the Ariel Atom is a four-wheeled machine designed for a thrilling driving experience.
Another insanely fun lightweight car in Jay’s collection is the 1991 Light Car Company Rocket. This inline two-seater is probably about as close to an F1 racecar as you can possibly drive on the streets, but its 1000cc Yamaha engine only actually puts out half the horsepower of the Ariel Atom. But, since the LCC Rocket weighs less than 775lbs. it is an absolute screamer. The sound and feel of this fiberglass machine on the open road are seriously reminiscent of an Indy car whizzing around the track.
Checking out Jay’s lineup of ultra-light high-performance sports car was a blast in itself but driving a vehicle with that much power for its size made this an unforgettable experience. You’re going to love this exciting episode!
