Usually, when a phone gets to under 5% batt, the remaining % goes down pretty rapidly, I've found in phones that I've had. Then he takes a call from Lucy and sends a screenshot of his whereabouts, that was what made the battery die. It wasn't on 1% the whole time - when he said to Lucy it was on 1% that's when it was on 1% and cut out. Not difficult to understand. If you can't follow that it's no wonder everyone is making crazy assertions and speculations. It's suspicious, no doubt, there's more to all of this, but that original narrative, aside from omissions to cover for drug-taking and whatever else, is fairly straightforward to follow.

British Consulate should have supplied someone who speaks Spanish to liase with Police. They could have done that without interfering with or compromising the investigation. I know mine would if a family member was missing in a non-English speaking country. Mine provided plenty of Indonesian speaking interpreters for families in Bali after the Oct 2002 bombings. I was there. If we could do that on such a mass scale, surely one Spanish speaker wouldn't be hard. Mine does even if someone is sick or injured in a hospital overseas. I've been in hospital myself in a country where I was fluent in the language, but i still had twice daily visits from someone from my Consulate & a number to call 24/7. So what's wrong with the British Consulate ? But also, Police in my country never divulge info in an on-going investigation & everyone is a suspect until proven otherwise. EVERYONE. There will be arrests at some point even if it's only for perverting the course of justice... like lying to police during an important investigation. Personally, I can say that every phone I've ever had shuts itself down LONG before it gets anywhere near 1% battery. But whatever....

Drones and helicopters have been part of the search from the beginning. The terrain is volcanic so very rough with scrub/bushes and (I believe) caves. There are wild boar and deer on Tenerife so even thermal imaging cameras may not have helped.
