Jay-Z and Dave talks about the rough life of a youth in Marcy Projects. As Dave questions "how did you do it without someone to help you"? Then after a few attemps of trying to avoid the answer, he finally mentions "A Guy Named Jaz".

fuck ya. david letterman doest ask a question he doesn't know the answer to. hes a genius. he puts on this goofy persona but hes a really smart guy. he knew about Jaz for sure and he wanted to hear what Jay would say because that's whats good for the show. if jay admits it was Jaz that gave him his break then its good tv, if jay lies and says some other bullshit its good tv, either way its a successful interview. big ups to David Letterman, hes the best.. happy retirement!

They wasn't cool at the time of this interview. Why should he gas up a guy who wasn't messing with him at the time. The fact that he mentioned him at all was good enough considering the situation. Besides, they cool now but in this business complimenting someone who can become an adversary can be used against you. Remember when jada reminded beans that he introduced him to his mom and used to seat and study the Lox? I do and so do others who followed that beef cause that was a cold line. You play chess not checkers and you have to think several moves ahead before you move cause once you move you can't take it back.

It was actually Jaz who screwed over Jay and is the result of their current relationship. Jay reached out to Jaz to sign to Rocafella and he turned him down, he then later got jealous of Jay's success and around 2001 he was giving Nas info for diss tracks to use against Jay. Once Jay found out about it, that's when he started dissing Jaz in his songs. Notice the timeframe of when this stuff unfolded. In 2001 on the last track of the Blueprint Jay-Z credits Jaz for helping him get on. In 2002 just a year later, on "Blueprint 2" he disses him saying "I'm gonna let karma catch up to Jaz-O". Incidentally right after the Nas/Jay-Z beef was going on. So if Jay was his boy then why was he helping Nas get at him on diss tracks? That's the ultimate betrayal. Jaz put himself into his current position.

I don't understand why everyone thinks Jaz-O deserves anything from Jay-Z. We all know why Jay danced around the question, what Jay-Z was doing at the time was selling drugs. It aint like he was rappin, trying to make it, he was hustling and making it. Jaz-O told him to get on his Hip Hop grind because he was nice. Jaz didn't get him a deal, Jaz didn't introduce him to Dame or Biggs, Jaz didn't get him the distribution deal with Def Jam, all Jaz did for Jay Z was show him that a nigga from Marcy can make it without selling drugs or sports. I mean Jaz didn't write any of his music or anything.

Everyone here is all "oh, Jay-Z clearly doesn't want to say Jaz-O's name, it was only when Dave pressured him that he said it". Jay-Z wasn't avoiding it, it's just that Dave's pressuring him was going over his head, until he was more obvious. I would say how Jaz-O wasn't as important a part of Jay-Z's career as most of you think - which is not to say he wasn't important - but other comments have answered that already.

True that. Jaz-o helped jay develop a style and did put Jay's names out there and Big Daddy Kane also helped get Jay's name into the spot light. Jay-Z saying he has this "extreme talent" is true but it isn't rapping. His talent is fucking over people and making money and he has been doing it forever. I don't have a problem with it but he should own up to it. He fucked over Jaz then Kane then Dash. There are more people in between all of them but Jay-Z is a distrustful guy according to the facts.

Jay, most celebs back-stabbed others to get to Hollywood. Kanye, Jay-Z, even Oprah, Tom Cruz, and Donald Trump (especially that guy lol). It's apart of why old celebs have a phase where they regret doing so much and severing so many relationships just to get to Hollywood, b/c in the end it's not worth it.

"a guy name JAZ"....yes, the name of that guy, who inspire JAY Z is JAZ. Just simply like that. JAZ O didn'y give JAY Z any label deal...nothing. That's the true

He was a artist on a label not a owner: He was a friend and helped out his boy and introduced the world to Jay Z a unknown unsigned street cat and he put Jay Z on and introduced him to people in the biz other mcees etc and label executives etc !!! On the other hand Jay Z used him then moved on when he couldn't get to the next level: rappers weren't thinking like Master P then However Jay Z was head of Def Jam and did not reach out to Jaz O

Jay-Z said it best "If you really put me on/ put yourself on then." Every tale has a Genesis. Jay got his start and owes nothing to nobody. Like Jay said "People talk about what I haven't done for them/ not what I did to them." Jaz-O get a job and stop hatin' on dude. Real talk.

Nah that's why we still in the same position !! Jay Z straight up slimy Jaz O put him on when no one was fucking with him and he couldn't get there on his own then he got his foot in the door then latched on to Kane then Biggie & Puff : When Jay Z got where he wanted to he sold his soul with Lyor Cohen and sold out his own for his own individual gain and married into a powerful family He mentioned Jaz O in earlier shit once or twice but just acted like he did it alone after a while; and has totally erased him: 7 Albums and the guy who put you on ain't on one track !!! he is a user and a sell out !! And he did it for his own selfish ego !! Glad Nas buried him !!!

+Razu Gordon Wow! What part of Atlanta? Did you talk to him? Is he homeless or something, or what? or do you know? I wonder what he was doing in Atlanta? Friends? Family? Jaz-O is as real as they come, I think, and has a lot of true knowledge about the goings-on in many different realms.

@@DECAGOINC The thing that mystifies me is that Jay-Z stole Big Jaz's name and his style then sold out to make millions. Did Jaz-O not have the P&R in the early 90's or what? Why didn't Jaz-O make it when his sidekick did?
