How about a listen to a semi-popular "obscure" song from Stevie? Her song "Blue Lamp" was written for the album, Bella Donna... the track didn't make the final cut and was only ever released on the soundtrack to the film, 'Heavy Metal: The Motion Picture' (until a much later boxed set of Nicks' works). The song features the same chord progressions of the Prince song, 'Little Red Corvette' and Prince himself played the synthesizer on the track (he and Stevie were very good friends). This tune has always been one of my favorite Stevie songs and over the years it has been one of those songs you hear maybe once every 6 months or so on the "classic rock" stations.

This ruined friendships, this song. Stevie Nicks was living in Jimmy Iovine’s basement (they were dating at the time) when he convinced Petty to do this song with her. So they recorded it and released it to huge success. But Jimmy released without realizing that just a few days later Petty had his own album coming out. This song gained such popularity that it overshadowed Petty’s whole new album, lost him a hell of a lot of money, or at least that’s what Petty thought. He thought it was purposely done because he was dating Stevie Nicks. Petty was so pissed at Jimmy who was supposed to be his really good friend for releasing this single days before of his album release knowing how the industry works, and just couldn’t get over it. They didn’t speak for a lot of years over this.
@mikeziegler70083 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the fact that Petty wrote this song... along with Mike Campbell.
@joeevett90073 жыл бұрын
Petty gave her the song because the one he wrote for her he decided to keep for his own album. He had already recorded the vocals and they just wiped some of them and had Stevie record vocals over the track. Stevie wanted to be part of the band and Tom told her no but collaborated with her quite a bit. Stevie would have left Fleetwood Mac if Petty would have said yes to her joining the band. She liked that music more than what she was already doing. Tom liked there music but they were so big that he didn't like the corporate control he thought came with it and did not trust Her or Iovine at first. The song is from a perspective of an older man talking to a younger woman.

Aaaaannnd now you need to hear Weird Al's parody of this song: "Stop Draggin' My Car Around." Also, please finally react to his first-ever music video, "Ricky" (a parody of "Mickey" by Toni Basil -- originally "Kitty" by Racey).

Chuck Norris, be careful. People actually get in a snit about that now because of the line. "She's just 16 years old, leave her alone " They compare it to the real age of Margolis at the time. They act like it's real life. It never occurs to them that "I" in the song could be 19 or 20. No imagination.
