ABBA is musical serotonin. Two angelic voices blended in harmony with incredible tunes. Better yet, they wrote and produced every note of their own music. An extreme rarity considering Burt Bacharach was writing nearly every pop tune back then.

ABBA (acronym) has 4 members, Agnetha (blonde), Anni-Frid aka Frida (Brunette), Benny (Piano) and Björn (Guitar), they're from Sweden and became famous worldwide after winning the Eurovision song Festival in 1974 with their first international hit "Waterloo". Agnetha was also married to Björn and Benny with Anni-Frid, the combination of their initials inspired the group's name. Hope that answer your questions for basic info about these legends :)

My wife grew up in Italy back then (Air Force Brat) and remembers watching them at that Eurovision Festival on t.v. She said that the reason they stuck out in her mind was that they were the only group that sang in English where she could understand them. So many more of their songs are SO reaction-worthy. Do it! Not sure if this was mentioned, but the girls were the singers except for one song which was "Does Your Mother Know"....the only one where the guys sing lead (such a great roller rink song, btw). Frida had a hit in the '80's called "There's Something Going On".....and if you listen hard, you can hear those distinct ABBA harmonies loud and clear. Great vid, man. Keep at it!

The history of ABBA can be researched on the Internet. ABBA was and is a guarantee for music that puts you in a good mood. In the ABBA film: "THE FILM", which was shot by ABBA during the Australian tour, a young woman said: "When I hear something from ABBA, I feel like I have to get up to dance." Yes, that statement is spot on. ABBA was and is a group that brought much, much happiness into our world.

A while after Waterloo, I remember ABBA appearing on Top of The Pops in the UK with Mamma Mia. My whole family watched it and we looked at each other afterwards and said "that'll be number one," I think it was on the tails of Bohemian Rhapsody. It's hard to believe that this song is now 44 years old, it *still* sounds fresh! When Dancing Queen came out, I was obsessed with it and played it over and over on juke boxes trying to work out the parts, especially, being a piano player, that wonderful piano part. I used to play Dancing Queen, in a covers band and occasionally we'd have guest bass players at gigs and none of them liked playing Dancing Queen, its chord progressions are *way* more sophisticated than your average pop song. I *loathe* ABBA tribute bands, they *never* even get close. Thing with ABBA is, they were the *real* deal. Slick, sophisticated, beautifully crafted songs and by the time they split, they were writing some really adventurous stuff, The Visitors Album, in particular was a masterpiece. But, then, they weren't just a "singles band." All of the albums including and following Arrival are quality albums and like The Beatles and Stones before them, people know not just the singles, but many of the great album tracks... Buy the albums, you won't be disappointed! 😉👍

Benny, playing piano, is the main melody writer. Bjorn, playing guitar is the main lyric writer. Both produce and arrange the songs. In the earlier years Stig, their manager, also wrote lyrics. Agnetha, soprano and Anni-Frid (Frida) mezzo soprano are the vocalists. Their combined voices make a "third voice". ABBA is only 2nd in sales to the Beatles with over 400 million sold. They had 17 number 1 hits. ABBA, Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, Anni-Frid (Frida) is the acronym for ABBA. You should read about them. They are one of a kind.

Their music was themselves. One only has to listen to their songs after their respective marriages broke up...they stayed together as a group and brought those feelings into their music. Songs like Knowing Me, Knowing You, The Name of the Game, to name a couple are really deep. The Winner takes it All culminates this as their most powerful song. Get past the poppiness of the songs and really dig into the lyrics, the story unfolds there.

@@melibuxmelmont4889 Bang-A-Boomerang is no. 93. I'm sorry, it's not one of my favourites :) But that's the great thing about ABBA, their songs are so diverse that everyone has different favourites.

Dancing Queen will transend all of time and will never old. No doubt the greatist pop song ever.

Michael Jordan used to say he was plaing Dancing Queen 4 times before stepping on the court and that song was what help him become the player number one

There’s a school of thought that holds that ABBA’s “Dancing Queen” is, indeed, the saddest (pop) song ever written. She’s 17, and at the pinnacle of her life.... It’s the song’s feel good vibe that obscures the tragedy.

Slays me. Every. Time...one's only 17 once. But then that Nordic melancholy is bedrock to ABBA, my DNA is about 63% Norwegian and 5% Swedish

I feel like I peaked around 18. Don't get me wrong, I've had a good life, its been a great ride, but those were good days, and easier times.

Thank you! I’ve said the same thing for years. Dancing Queen is one of the the saddest happy songs ever written.

Even as a child when this song came out (12) it made me cry. The melancholy is right there with the euphoria and joy of the song. Sheer perfection

You should listen to ABBA's last, most polished and mature album, 'The Visitors'. In particular, the song, "Like An Angel Passing Through My Room". Gorgeous.

ABBA consisted of 2 gals and 2 guys. Formed in 1972 in Sweden. The first letter of each band member forms the band's name - ABBA. Popular throughout 70's and 80's. One of the most successful bands of all time

ABBA made videos before almost anybody. I know the Beatles made some, but ABBA did every song MTV style about 7 years early.

I was starting high school and taking driver's education when this song came out. I was 15 and I believe it was 1976. That was a magical time. Abba made that time magical.

ABBA are the single-most successful pop music group in history. By any measure.

This song single handedly launched the disco movement. I was 8 when I first heard it on radio & nothing else sounded like it. Australia found this Swedish group on their radio & kept inviting them for concerts & then the rest of Western Civilization saw what was happening in Australia & then ABBA became worldwide & broke Beatles records right & left & were a major force until 1981 when the women left the men & broke up the group. The men went on to write music for other musicians but ABBA was no more after 7 years in 1981, but their music has lived past them. You should check out Information Society's cover from 1989 of ABBA's "Over The Sea^ as well as "Take A Chance" & "The Winner Takes It All" by ABBA & "Thak You For The Music" and you'll never be disappointed with any song you review from their Greatest Hits Volume I or Two!

Jamel..... Mate.... TALK ABOUT “NOSTALGIA” ✋️🤪🤚 I can remember ABBA from my childhood as I had a HUGE crush on Agnetha (the blonde) & even now, at the age of 51, my partner & I are always headed straight to the dance floor whenever most of their songs come on & are played 🙏😎 Their music is timeless as they had SO many hits over the years ☝️😄 The Swedish people “did alright” in a big way bringing this sensational quartet to the world ❤️🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪❤️

Jamel_AKA_Jamal .... They had other hits that made them global icons (even to this day) like Money, Money, Money, Waterloo, Fernando, S.O.S, Mamma Mia..... Their music has stood the test of time for around 40 years (give or take). If you & your wife or anyone in your family have seen “Mamma Mia!: The Musical”..... THERE YOU GO!!! ABBA all over that show 🇸🇪✌️😎🇸🇪

I’m 13, and they’re still going to be legends. Their songs are beautiful in the mess of music of today. They’re my first musical obsession and I discovered them in 2017. I’ve gone through their entire catalog and I can’t find anything else. They’re making music for the first time in 38 years and it’s the first studio album released while I’m alive. Ahhhhh, I’m so excited!!!!!!!
@gerardroll64684 жыл бұрын
Ethan .....They’ve been legends for millions of fans the world over for a long, long time☝️😎 Any bands or solo artists whose music is still wildly popular after about 30 years or so deserve their success & longevity, unlike those in the “as you called it” the mess of music today, most of whom can be classed as “one hit wonders”. Look at bands & artists like ABBA (of course), AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, KISS, Janet Jackson, The Eagles, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Shania Twain & dare I say..... Even “the King” (Elvis Presley).... All who’ve been around for at least 30 years+ & whose music is still heavily featured & appreciated in fans’ playlists all over the world. Mention a few of those artists to your parents or older siblings & they can introduce you to some music they grew up with that you may never have heard but WILL like if you give it a try ☝️😄👌

Just luvv this group even though I was born in the Disco era when ABBA was recording their treasure trove of songs, even though I'm a metal and blues kind of guy. Love how the musicians here were able to lay down accompaniment tracks that so compliment the singer's vocals. Fantastic harmonies and counterpoint. And just looking at how the singers just exude this beauty and natural rapport with everything around them can really caress one's soul, sounds melodramatic and maybe over the top but that's my experience of it for whatever it's worth.
