Jaylen Brown just signed the largest contract extension in NBA history worth $304 million with the Boston Celtics. Many are questioning this massive deal for a player with flaws like high turnover rates. However, Brown strategically maneuvered himself into the ideal scenario to demand top dollar. By taking less initially and hitting free agency in 2023 without comparable guards available, Brown held major leverage over Boston, who had no choice but to re-sign him. This video explores how Brown deliberately timed his previous rookie deal and upcoming free agency to force the Celtics into offering him a record payday. Now Boston faces challenges retaining their core long-term under the new CBA. Brown's mega-contract could ultimately lead to the team trading him or Jayson Tatum down the road, dismantling their roster.

Listen, jaylen's responsibility is NOT to be a primary ball handler, and that's obviously why marcus is gone. Jb averaged 27 ppg. He is easily, one of the best players in the nba, and he's 26. Jb and jt will be on the celtics for the foreseeable future.

Yes there is no doubt that if both those contracts started this yr. The celtics would b in alot of trouble, but fortunately they don't start this yr. By the time they both do count, cap will also go up. It will never b a problem to keep 2 players on max, and only becomes a problem when teams do a big 3.

@@jcity943 First of all, his offball game is mostly standing around waiting for a pass. You can blame that on Boston's offensive scheme though. Second, nobody is criticizing his ability to finish with his left hand. The criticism is with his left hand dribble while driving left. Which isn't as terrible as the criticisms, but it also isn't good. I agree his main problem is decision making, but that's exactly what Boston needs. Adding KP just amplifies that deficiency. Money doesnt seem to mean much in the NBA these days. Teams usually find a way to make it work and will continue to even with the new CBA. Its kind of a no brainer to sign this deal for both Celtics and Jaylen. Theyve done nothing but win with Jaylen and Jason at the helm and the Celtics added a huge offensive weapon with Porzingas. Its not like the Celtics can find someone younger and at Jaylens level to trade for this year and probably next year as well. I could see Jaylen becoming the 3rd scoring option on the Celtics while still scoring 20+ a game on very efficient shooting and playing superb defense. Porzingas is gonna see a lot of wide open 3s setting picks for Tatum or Brown, plus the fact he can post up without being doubled. If he can stay healthy Porzingas may be the guy averaging 25 a night as the C's 2nd leading scorer. But Jaylen's scoring ability and defense still are good enough to warrent signing him. Something many people seem to overlook is that the Celtics core is still getting better. Tatum and Rob Williams are just 25, JB and KP at 27.. all these guys just entering what should be their prime years. With experience the game starts to slow down and making the right plays and reads becomes more automatic and natural, hopefully thats the case for JT and JB. They both just need to elimimate a few bad plays a game and become less predictable off the dribble. I know most people havent watched Porzingas since him and Luka played together with horrible chemistry, and anyone who watched Mavs KP knows that was mostly on Luka and Coach Carlisle. Luka just didnt want to pass when Porzingas was wide open and they mavs rarely let KP operate in the post unless Luka was resting. Anyone who watched Porzingas last season knows how damn good of a scorer he can be. Even when beal was out, KP usually made the right reads and didnt force anything. He passed well from the post and drained mid range jumpers and 3s regularly. He isnt gonna crash the boards on offense much or go for contested lobs, dude knows thats how he's gonna get hurt. He knows his limitations and stengths now that he's got more experience. I think we're gonna see prime Porzingas and dont be surprised when the Celtics are dominating next year and people are calling the Smart trade an absolute steal for Boston. If im wrong, ill humbly admit it, but i see big things with this squad in 23-24.

is not that easy. Celtics are rapidly approaching the second apron in the salary cap after this season. This season will be win or bust. After this season the celtics will have committed 155 millions on 7 players, and will need to resign their own free agents, including kristaps porzingis.

you are wrong. Brown can not have the team hostage. Bird rights and the salary cap rules makes the celtics team have the leverage in the negotiation. 1. Celtics didn't need to sign him immediately, he did have one year left. 2. Celtics do have his bird rights, so they can offer him more than any other team. 3. Celtics can trade him and get similar value in return. 4. The possibility of brown leaving in free agency is almost zero. Most of the teams that can compete for a championship or playoff caliber teams are above the salary cap, that means teams can not sign brown freely in free agency. They would at least need a sign and trade. A competing team that has a lot of cap space would have probably near 30 millions free cap space, and wouldn't be able to sign any other player if they would try to sign him in free agency and teams that have full financial capacity in free agency are not competing and couldn't sign him to a contract the celtics could. 5. Domantas sabonis a player I considered better than Brown, that could have also signed for the super max contract, signed a 4 years 195 million extension. Celtics were fool to sign brown to a 5 year 300+ million contract.

@@mitchtherevolution How do you know that Brown will not improve? He has gotten better every year that he has been in the league. To say that Brown is not worth more than his last contract which by the way he took a discount is an insult. What you are saying is over the course of the next 5 years, Brown would be making equivalent to what a role player would be making. Brown without a doubt is greatly superior to that of a role player. Brown is simply getting paid what the market says he should be paid. In 2 to 3 years from now, Brown will not be close to being the highest paid player in the league.

But you have to take into account that as a second option half of the time they put him in the corner to open up the lane for Tatum. His opportunities compared to other so called super stars is not there, you give him the same opportunities and he would give you 30 to 35 points a game...also about defense, when you are guarding the apposing best player, their is a great chance of getting scored on more. When you are guarding Steph, Kwai, Butler, harden, booker, Duran, Lebron....you are not going to hold these people scoreless.....but if compare those players defense against Brown, I can bet you that their defense rating is not that high because very few of those players got the best of Brown...sorry but stats lie sometimes.....especially when you unfairly handicap a guy by going long periods of time without using him because you have to kill him in order for your other superstar to shine.
