I can't imagine why anyone in their right mind wouldn't want better weight distribution. A guy in England did an electric VW beetle with a Tesla motor with the battery up front and it has perfect weight distribution and he says it handles great. Here's the VW video. I wish Jay had have driven the Porsche the way the guy in this video drives the beetle. Start at 18:45 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/er53ftdp2LGcc4U.html
@MrDownRater
@MrDownRater 2 жыл бұрын
@@plane_guy6051 I followed that build, if you can please check out Guy Martin's video about that Beetle. He is a great lad. But the reason is because he (the hungarian guy) wanted the same feel what you got and love in an old air-cooled Porsche. And if we talkng about perfect balance, they did the same, the battery is in the front, but everything else (inverter, motor, etc.) are in the back. It has a 48-52% front-back weight distribution. The 912 had a smaller and lighter engine so it had a better balance than the 911.
@Turk_2023

More weight up front on these old Porsche's is probably great. The rear ends tended to have a mind of its own at high speeds and killed many because of the weight distribution and no traction control.

Great transmission answer. ive been asking that question for years, this engineer guy really knows his stuff.
@jonathanjohnson8376
@jonathanjohnson8376 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is hard to explain why electric vehicles only use one gear while an internal Combustion engine can need up to 10 gears to do the same thing, without having to explain how a transmission works. Both motors and engines use transmissions, but the ICE has a smaller power band (the RPM that provides the needed power), so it needs multiple gears to spread that power over a wider range of speeds. While a motor provides most of its torque at 0 RPM and can be most efficient at 5,000 RPM. The transmission for the motor is often a compromise of power and efficiency, but if you want a really high top speed (like 200 or more MPH [322km/h]) you will need a second gear for the motor.

@@d.martins4471 not really.😎. The conversion of a classic car to electric drive is a growing field in the future. Now we have some regulations that allow you to drive a 25 plus years car without todays harsh emission laws. But there is a huge change upcoming. Around Germany, a lot of countries in Europe doesn’t allow you to use their roads with vehicles that don’t have actual emission standards and that is a huge problem for older cars. The price for gas is not the biggest problem. Even a jaguar e-type is converted to an EV and it is stunning but not affordable for my pocket😎. I can't believe it's only 300 lbs more. That's incredible I expected 1000 more. That's just like having a fat passenger with you lol. Not a big deal at all especially for how much more torque this thing would have. And the fact one can go back to stock is sweet. It's the prefect situation for an old style electric car.

I always had the strange idea we’d sell two metal strips down a highway and the electric cars with two brushes just like a race car set. Did it with overhead street car wires. Remove the need for heavy batteries. Maybe parking lots with induction charging? Never worry about plugging in to charge. Sounds crazy, so did electric vehicles years ago

I did not think there was a competitor to Porsche by Singer. Well... there isn't but this Zelectric Porsche comes from left field and it's a doozy. This is the car we needed but didn't know it. The curb weight of 2500 lbs is outstanding but, with a range of 120 miles, it gives reason to pause but it was a wise decision not to add 400 lbs of weight for more range. Better to wait until battery technology advances. This is one of my favorite videos in ages. So much of the video is just Jay and Trent shooting the breeze and talking about cars. It's so fun and relaxing be a fly on the wall. I'm impressed with Zelectric and I wish them nothing but the best.
