Jayson Werth has already fallen towards obscurity in the years since his MLB career ended, and he absolutely should not have. Because he was both better and cooler than he gets remembered for...

Can we talk about how 2008 Ryan Howard had 48 hr and 146 rbi, but only managed 1.8 war? (I understand defense and baserunning counts for a lot with war, still crazy)
@hamiham32
@hamiham32 20 күн бұрын
Not only was he first base, but bad at it😂😂. A death sentence when it comes to WAR
@EmmanuelPerez88
@EmmanuelPerez88 20 күн бұрын
Also a relatively low OBP and a low slg for someone who hit 48 bombs (it took him 610 abs and only batter .251) also hurt his WAR. WAR use’s OBP and slg not totals. If you hit .250 on a team that gave you 400 rbi opportunities (100 rbi) are you better than someone who hits .300 on a team that have you 300 rbi opportunities (90 rbi). Or a guy who hits 40 bombs but only got on base .200 of the time can’t positively impact a whole season like someone with an OBP of .400 who is on base most games

Werth is on the Nationals' ring of honor. Sure, they've only existed since 2005, so the bar was not super high, but it wasn't all about the statistics during his time in Washington. He was a veteran leader of a team and city that were learning what it was like to succeed in MLB

Before I click play, I really want to drive the point home how much it sucks he didn't get to be on that Nationals squad that won it all. He was one of the many guys who got looked down upon in baseball circles because signing with the Nationals when he did was seen as a "cash grab" He would've fit like a glove on that squad. Really glad the Nationals put him in their ring of honor, he deserved it.

As a Nationals fan, those mid-10s seasons where we were very good but not great were always brutal. Jason Werth was one of our best players during that time for sure. I'd love to see a video about Ryan Zimmerman!

I was still a Dodgers "fan" when MVP Baseball 2005 came out. He was epitome of a good player and could smoke lefties. I enjoyed seeing his name from afar, and it was nice to see him mentor Harper for his first few years in the bigs. Great video!

When Werth signed with the Nats, that began their coming into their own as legitimate contenders. He actually was a driving force behind the club making changes in the clubhouse and behind the scenes stuff that gave the Nats street cred with other potential free agents that this was a legitimate MLB franchise.

One of my favorite players in Phils history, great video. To his day I don't fault him for getting his bag from the Nationals. Unfortunately with how many stories end with ex-professional athletes going broke, stories like Jayson's are a shining example in the opposite direction.

Enjoyed the video, but Jayson's been around in baseball since that 2018 reunion. That same 2018 weekend, he played with Nats teammate Adam LaRoche in a retired guys baseball tourney in Louisville - the reason he was getting some at bats in the men's league! Look it up in the Courier Journal- nice write ups. I had family there at the time, so I went down for the series. It was great for me to see him play several games in a Nats uni one more time. (He's my favorite, too.) He was at Nats Park in Sept 2018 to be installed in our Ring of Honor, and until he moved, he stopped by to watch games now and again. He was at Nats Park when we won the NLCS in 2019, and at our WS games in DC and Houston. He was at Nats Park to retire Ryan Zimmerman's jersey in 2022, and just last week, he was in the booth for a Nats game with our broadcasters for nearly the entire game. I had money on Dornach for the Belmont, so Jayson's next venture has been very exciting so far!!! ⚾🐎

I guess I'll be the Toronto fan that didn't want to see him traded. He was highly regarded by fans that really knew... and he was traded for bullpen help. But was WAY down in the depth charts.

Idk why you're insinuating that Teoscar Hernandez wasn't good and the dodgers turned him around, because that just isn't true. He's had 1 season with an OPS+ below 100, and that was a 99 in his rookie year. He usually hits in the 120's or 130's
