Jovaughn, you need to watch "Muscle Shoals" on Netflix. Also search for "Standing in the Shadows of Motown". These are 2 essential documentaries that will educate you on this genre. Both excellent, you will not be disappointed. Hope you do and let us know what you think. Be well, God bless.✌

I saw him in Detroit driving down the street in his green convertible w/his trademark glasses. I started yelling & he laughed/waved & blew me a kiss. BTW, the songwriter Smokey Robinson (though I never met him) is my cousin. He & my dad hung out together before I was born. Motown had its acts on point in every aspect from vocals/the look/choreography. Every boy band that has synchronized dancing has The Temptations to thank!

"My Girl" was written by Smokey Robinson and released in late 1964. You should react to "My Guy" by Mary Wells, which was also written by Smokey Robinson and was released earlier that same year in the spring of 1964. Both of these Motown songs hit No. 1.

OK, bro. Now you're getting serious. This is one of THE songs of the 1960s. It hit the airways in '65 and never looked back. A bit of trivia: The song was written by Smokey Robinson as an answer song to another great song, "My Guy" by another Motown artist that you should check out, Mary Wells.

This one's my personal favorite from The Temptations. They were SO good! Smooth. And yeah; back in the 60's, Motown wanted the groups to dress the same. And of course, there was the choreography. Those days are long gone, and what a shame. But as you said, we can, and SHOULD play for future generations. GREAT reaction! Love it, as always.

You really need to see the mini-series on the group, it gives a great dramatized history showing where they came from, how they came together, how they made it big, the problems, the member changes, etc. It's worth seeking out. There ought to be music history classes in school to keep these songs alive as you said, teach kids the roots, the growth of different genres, the historical context, the forms music came in, listen to the top songs each month from periods being taught.

The Five Heartbeats is one of my favorite movies!!! the film is loosely based on the lives of several artists: The Dells, The Temptations, Four Tops, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Frankie Lymon, Sam Cooke and others according to Wikipedia. Robert Townsend produced and starred in it. Leon is your go to guy to play any singer...he even did Little Richard and David Ruffin in the Temptations movie.

This was their song that set their career into orbit. It was Number One on The Pop Charts and Number One on The R & B Charts for Six Weeks. It was written by Smokey Robinson who wrote and co wrote alot of their early hits including Beauty's Only Skin Deep, I Know I'm Losing You, Get Ready. His Co Collaborator was Fellow Miracle Ronnie White and they guys taught it to them at The Apollo Theater and the rest is History. The Guitar Solo was done by Late Funk Brother Robert White. If you can check out Standing In The Shadows Of Motown, where you see and meet the guys who performed on 100 Of Motown's Greatest Hits. As for the Choreography it was done by Former Tapdancing Great Cholly Atkins. They were a major influence on both The Jackson Five & The "Original" New Edition. Also if you can check them out singing "It's Growing", you'll also be blown away by The Choreography.

Great music, the drum intro at thr start of the song became the trademark referred to as the "Motown Sound" it was used again and again by many of the Motown artist on many, many songs. David Ruffin was a legend check out his Who I Am album "Walk away from love" and the amazing "Statue of a fool" The check out Eddie Kendricks another former member of the Temps' singing "Keep on trucking. Then find Willie Hutch who was not in the Temps' singing "Brothers gonna work it out" both disco classics from the 70's -- Motown for ever!!😊😊😊

One of my all time favorite songs! When these Motown songs first came out there was a local TV show right over the bridge from Detroit to Canada. It was called “Swinging Time”. Kids from school would go over there to dance on the show. They had guest performers and that’s where we first saw the Motown groups. I watched on TV because I was afraid of the bridge and the tunnel!! You really should watch the movie “The Temptations”. It’s a good movie and good history lesson! ❤️🎵

There was a little blond girl in my in my senior year first period class. I got to know her, and this was one of the songs that I thought of when she came to my mind. That girl and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary last May. we have been together since the spring of 1976. This song still makes me smile, and still makes me think of her. I hope that every man on the face of the earth has the chance to find his soul mate like I did, and that they call this song there own, like we do. This is the Temptations at their very best.

My husband and daughter danced at her wedding to this. Made me cry,in a good way. Motown was so perfect musically.

The similar costumes, moving in synch, all of these were needed to get on TV, to show that Rock & Roll wasn't mind polluting. It was even more important for black groups. Love The Temptations. Brings back tons of memories to this old(er) woman.

Great memory... this is the song my son picked for us to dance to at his wedding. It will always be “our song”!

One of my favorite parts of this song is at 3:51 and the way David Ruffin sings "well!" A classic song. Timeless

I'm realizing that the dance steps that Temptations are doing looks like the dance steps that Bruno/Anderson did in their performance for the song "Leave The Door Open". Bruno is keeping this style of music alive! The Flower 🌹

Smokey Robinson called Them "The Five Deacons". He had mad love for them. He wrote alot of their early Hits although he did get help. This one he taught the Fellows at The Apollo Theater in 1965. Ronnie White Co Wrote it but he didn't get the same credit that Smokey did. He, like Diana Ross was Teacher's Pet. Also The Guitar Riff was done by the Late Robert White which is one of the most recognizable in Music. These Guys would later influence the Jackson Five and Boyz To Men. Otis Williams the only surviving Temptation told Backstreet Boy AJ McClean to always stay on top of Business. The Choreography was done by Cholly Atkins who did Choreography for alot of the Motown Acts. Lou Pearlman emulated the Formula with the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync, The Popstars Franchise emulated this and it still continues with K Pop.

This was Co Written by William Smokey Robinson and his Late Partner in The Miracles Ronnie White. These guys were in their own way The Prototype for the next Generation of Groups most notably The Jackson Five and New Edition. Smokey also wrote some of their other hits like "The Way You Do The Things You Do". During Motown's early years they had a "Charm School" where they put the Acts through their paces. Their Choreography was done by Cholly Atkins a Former Tapdancing Legend whose Former Partner Honi Coles was the former Manager of The Apollo Theater. Their Vocal Training was done by Maurice King and Etiquette was the Late Maxine Powell. Motown's Charm School and it's legacy still continue with The Popstars Franchise not to mention with K Pop.

I know how you enjoy they way everyone is in sync with their dancing. You've reacted to it already, but check out Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Night and the Pips, it's a live version but you won't be able to take your eyes off of the Pips. They do in sync better than all of them.
