I really enjoyed that. Aimee’s voice was beautiful. I was surprised by Aimee’s jazz chops. Always thought that Aimee was a great teacher and that her strength wasn’t in performance. Of course Jens you were great with Aimee. Great video Aimee. Do it again sometime. great video Aimee!

I never comment on these videos, but for this I'm compelled. I'm a rusty guitar player getting back to it after all these years. Jens has help me insanely, and even though you play a different instrument, so have you, Aimee. Most of what I get from you has to go into the vault until I get the chops to put it to use, but it still helps so much. Seeing both of you in the same video is like getting the chance to watch two of your old friends meet and like each other the way you knew they would. Now if you two and Tomo Fujita were ever all three in one video then I think the world would explode.

EDITED "Take the "A" Train" has an interesting Origin story. Billy Strayhorn had a publishing deal with Duke Ellington from the time he joined the Ellington organization, this is why his compositions (as well as his work on partially completed Ellington compositions) were credited to Ellington for many years. In 1940 Publishing entities ASCAP and BMI were engaged in a legal dispute, the upshot of which was that the radio stations announced that they would no longer air any music by ASCAP members, Duke Ellington had belonged to ASCAP since 1935, so the vast majority of his compositions for the band could no longer be performed on radio. In order to continue to perform on radio, Ellington would need an almost entirely new repertoire, not written by an ASCAP member such as himself. Duke Ellington called on Billy Strayhorn and Mercer Ellington to fill the void in his band's book. Strayhorn and Mercer Ellington rented a hotel room and got to work composing and also reviewing Strayhorn's archive of unused material. Strayhorn had literally crumpled up "Take the "A" Train" and tossed it in the trash can. Mercer Ellington dug it out and asked "What's wrong with this", Strayhorn replied "That's an old thing I was trying to do something with, but it's too much like Fletcher Henderson". Mercer Ellington agreed, but flattened it out and put it in the keeper pile anyway. Ellington ended up choosing "Take the "A" Train" as his orchestra's new Radio theme replacing "Sepia Panorama", an Ellington composed ASCAP published composition, and the rest is history. A big batch of Strayhorn material (and some Mercer Ellington tunes) were added to the band's repertoire at that time including Strayhorn's "After All", Clementine" "Chelsea Bridge" "Johnny Come Lately" "Rain Check" "A Flower is a Lovesome Thing" and "Passion Flower" I read about this in Lush Life - A Biography of Billy Strayhorn by David Hajdu. Scholars, feel free to correct anything I got wrong about this, and add citations if you have them.
@jwcjwc111

I’m out of town so can’t check the Strayhorn Lush Life biography, but I believe Ellington was shown the arrangement, stuck it under his arm, and the band was playing it, that day, soon after.
