This saxophone lesson will help jazz newcomers develop a practice strategy for learning how to play jazz. Designed for players with basic saxophone skills that want to focus on jazz and jazz improvisation, the lesson is presented by Randy Hunter. The full version is available at www.beginnings... as part of an online series of jazz improvisation lessons and jazz saxophone lessons and includes two jazz blues play-alongs and a jazz etude, along with written and jazz video instruction.

In your lessons do you go beyond dominant 7 chords? I would like to learn more advanced changes.

Thanks for the info Randy.. I'm working G,C and A blues scales along with their pentatonic and 1-3b-5-7b scale and trying to work different combinations with that, my other scales etc. I've been away from my instrument for 40 years and have been taking lessons for two years trying to get the ole brain and fingers rolling again. I have my Selmer Mark VI from 1967 and bought an intermediate horn Selmer LeVoix. I have "Nothing But the Blues" book by Jamey Aebersald, but need a solid practice routine like you were suggesting. I want to get the practice book you just introduced in your video about the lesson strategies.. What is the site I can purchase your books from along with the cd..I like your SMOOTH ole' school style..

Thanks Coporal14! Your Selmer Mark VI is from the same exact era as mine. I love that old horn. I've had it for about 40 years. I'm glad you like the practice routine. Like you noticed, this lesson and all of my others can be purchased for download at the beginning sax website. There's a link to the jazz improv lessons page in the lesson description above.
