I love this so much, I'm a beginner player, and I wanna know how you almost sing through your sax. I primarily play flute and would assimilate it with vibrato. What can I do to apply that to my playinging?
@RandyHunter11 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! What a wonderful comment! It's all about the voicing and blowing through the instrument- not just to it. We often focus so much on embouchure that we lose sight of the fact that the tone begins with the breath and is shaped as it passes through the throat and oral cavity. Having a constant awareness of the feel of the air as it passes from the lungs through the instrument is extremely important.

Hey Randy please write some blues tenor tunes,which you like the most. ❤ Mabe some slow tempos. Or what you love the most.

Hi Denis! Thanks for the suggestion. I'm writing a two-tenor duet right now. Let me see how it turns out. I'll post it if I think it's ok. Stay tuned!

Randy's subscription site is epic .. it has an absolute load of really good lessons .. including, of course, videos - often multiple vids - covering the classic jazz standards .. as well as whole sections on different aspects of theory: blues, diminished etc etc .. one of the best jazz saxophone resources on the net IMHO ..

Hello randy i from lima Peru :) ! Could I use your stuff on E flat for alto sax? :) do i have to transposing right?
@RandyHunter2 ай бұрын
Hi GianCarlos- Yes, you can use my material on alto. Transpositions are included in the written files that come with the lessons and many transpositions are included in the videos as well. My suggestion would be to pick up one or two lessons and see what you think. I've tried to make them as easy as possible for alto players to follow.

It is very concise and easy to remember the system because of "ST" instead of numbers. Fantastic lesson.

If you really want to learn more, I have a complete lesson series by the same name on the jazz improv Lessons page of beginningsax.com

I started playing the first lick of set 1 this morning in two keys. The first observation is I have not worked on descending lines nearly enough and scales too much. The good thing about practicing licks is finding the intervals that don't come naturally. Those are the spots that need the most attention.
@RandyHunter5 ай бұрын
This is great, Joel. When you can identify self-perceived weaknesses and focus at least part of your practice there, you will get better! Good luck with your practice. Keep me updated on your progress.

@@RandyHunter Today, I searched for a tune to play it over and settled on footprints. I made it fit in the 3/4 time at a slower tempo. I like how it sounds, especially how it lays in over the G-7 chord.
