In this video we'll go through a killer pattern I found when checking out Wesley Chin's transcription of Joel Frahm's solo on Anthropology- a Rhythm Changes contrafact by Charlie Parker. This pattern is a major triad pattern with a unique sound based on a minor 3rd and perfect 4th combination. You'll learn it around the Circle of Fourths, Chromatically ascending and descending, and in whole-steps in the jazz saxophone tutorial.
Drop me an email from my website, beginningsax.com, if you'd like the cheat sheet with everything written out.

Getting better at understanding how a pattern is constructed, then brining it through all the keys without the aid of music. Thanks again for the tips :)

Michael- That's way cool! Practicing patterns is a great way to build vocabulary and fluency both with the instrument and through the keys. Sounds like your practice is going well!

@@RandyHunter Hi, Randy. In the mid of looking for work, so most time only 40-45 minutes of practice. However, learned to use this time pretty efficiently. Can't wait to have the leaks in my horn repaired. Will keep you posted. Peace, my friend.

Looks like you're on a P. Mauriat. Is that right? I'm getting back into sax after a LONG break. ...need a pro horn(s) and considering a PMXA-67RX Alto and an Atlantic London Tenor. Great lesson and pattern. Thank you!

Welcome back to the saxophone! Yes, it's a P Mauriat. The horn plays great. It's the unlacquered version. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Hi Randy Great stuff as always. Is your Mk6 on the backburner now? I see a lot of pro players are going over to P Mauriats. They seem to have a vintage sound with modern ergonomics

@@stephenbrophy836 Hi Stephen- Yes, the old Mark VI is currently tucked away safely. After playing it in the neighborhood of 1,500-2,000 hours a year for around 45 years it has a ton of key and rod wear on it. It needs a lot of rebuilding. I love it, but it's terribly difficult to keep in good playing condition. The P Mauriat fell into my lap about 4 years ago and I love it. The feel is very similar to the Mark VI, so it was an easy transition. There are things I like better about the sound of the VI, but the P has a much better low end. Tit for tat.

Nice pattern Randy, thanks. What 10m fan mouthpiece is that, and what reed do you use on it? Thanks again.

Thanks Dennis! I'm playing an old 10MFAN Black Widow #8. I'm back and forth between several brands of reeds but I believe this was a Rigotti 3M.
