Just used JB Weld Steel Stik to fix a metal handle on a metal strainer. Metal handle was press welded to metal strainer which finally broken. Since I do not have a press welder, I thought this would be a good DIY experiment. Things I learned. 1) First, wash your hands to stop oils to getting into putty. 2) You do not need gloves to knead putty together. Texture is like play dough. 4) Use a dollop of putty to attach to surface, then remove excess. 5) File/sandpaper all surfaces to create good bond. First attempt (did not roughen surface) did not stick. Second attempt (after using Dremel sander) did the trick. 6) Do not knead longer than 2 minutes as product will get hot and hard to more you wait. However, once putty is placed on surface, hold with light pressure for 5 minutes, then wait an hour before testing the bond. (Tested bond after 30 minutes and bond broke). 7) Putty does not have a strong scent, but will add a dark grey color to your hands Regular soap and water will remove all the material. Good luck.

I used this for some small holes on the truck as filler. The rust comes back. The places where I used Permatex Steel Weld are doing great. I used the JB Steelstik because of the faster set time. This summer, I will redo the JB with Permatix. JB says it doesn't rust but the rust is right on top of the JB Steelstik.

I broke my pedestal style cast aluminum mailbox by losing my temper and shoving against it hard, the main support sheared off on the front and back and smaller pieces broke off with some piece that went missing. It was a house warming gift from my mother when I bought my home 15 years ago and she's gone now, plus I didn't want to spend the almost $250 to buy a new one. So I disassembled the whole thing and used both traditional JB Weld two part, applied between the pieces that would mate together and then Steel Stik to reinforce the repairs at the crack lines from the back and then more spread out over and beyond the crack lines so any future stresses on the mailbox, like from high wind or opening and closing, would be put on solid areas that hadn't been broken. I built up a couple layers, spreading out a little further with each layer and then also filled in any gaps where pieces were missing. Anyway, I matched the paint, reassembled it and two years later, you would never know. The front of the box gets opened and shut by the mailman and the side door gets opened and shut by me, all told about 50 times per month, 600 times a year. The wind and southwest sun beats on it. I use it on countless other things as well but the mailbox was the ultimate test...Steel Stik is strong and great stuff!

Yes it can. Just be sure to properly grind the area clean, just like if it were being welded. The JB weld needs a clean and scuffed surface to bond to. If you do that, the bond should be super strong and able to take a lot of pressure.

If you are concerned about health issues, epoxy putty can cause irreversible skin allergies and you should use either Nitrile or Vinyl gloves when handling it. Latex gloves won't provide enough protection. Also if sanding, you should wear a face mask because Epoxy dust is bad for your lungs.

Ok, so with repairs like this, drill into both parts and epoxy or glue in a stub into one of them..once thats gotten solid you can connect the pieces, a face to face joint like a butt joint is worthless and weak. What im hoping this stuff is able to do is to be a filler inside a small steam tank where the magnesium had pitted, if it works im saving $400 if not i just buy a new tank. Its rated for temperature, but unsure how it bonds, and one flaw i did see is it appears to bubble between layers, which ive not seen in other epoxy’s. And not desired
