I was looking for a 3/4 ton truck and considered Chevy, Ford and Dodge. I bought the Ford with the 7.3 with the 3.55 gears. I pull a trailer everyday. Chevy would not order anything for me. Dodge Is no longer a US company and the truck is made in Mexico. I ordered a Ford the way I wanted it on November 16th and received it on January 24th. The Ford was built in Kentucky. I am very happy with everything about the truck. MPG with a trailer is around 9.5 to 10.5. MPG without a trailer is around 13.5 to 15.5 everyday driving. Very happy......

Ram hasn't had the title of most towing for AWHILE... it's been ford and Chevy for years. Humble yourself and fix your ride stance when you load the ram box. Squat isn't even the word for rams. Hemi only good when empty

@@kendellmoraldo9220 I think you're a bit confused. PAYLOAD on Ram 2500's has been terrible for years because the others offer optional 10k and 11+k GVWR ratings on their "3/4 ton" trucks where Ram only offers 10k. As far as "squat" goes, I think it's a poor indicator for towing/payload. Generally speaking, there isn't much difference in squat between the manufactures when using just a spring suspension. If I remember right, the big 3 are within an inch or less of each other except for Ram with air suspension. As far as TOWING goes, Ram & ford have been swapping max tow ratings (3500's) for quite a while. GM just entered the competition within the past year. MAX trailer weights(4x4): Ram 2500- 19,980, F250- 19,100, Chevy 2500- 18,500. Ram 3500-34,650, F350- 35,400, Chevy 3500- 31,700 Max for all (4x2) Ram-37,090, Ford- 35,750, Chevy-36,000 These are #'s from each manufacturers towing guides for 2022 vehicles. I thought GM released a new # to "1up" everyone, but I couldn't find it.

I have a 2020 F350 7.3L and have enjoyed it very much. Tow often with zero issues other then those Goodyear Wranglers. I live in Ontario and we get moderate snow and those ten ply Kevlar tires are horrible. They become frozen hockey pucks after year one. Even with the 4x4 active and weight in the rear end I was stuck while compact cars got through the snow. But since upgrading my tires she’s a snow beast again. Great vid!

I think the take home message is that each of the big three offers an excellent option for a gas HD these days. If you're towing heavy from time to time and need to step up from a half ton your hand isn't forced to choose a diesel. It's pretty amazing how far they've come in the last ten years.

Great comparison. I bought a 7.3 Tremor with 4.30 gears about 1 year, now has 20k miles on it. Mind you, this is the Tremor, 2" higher, 35" tires, no front air dampener. Over 15k of those miles a trailer is attached. We tow a 11k# RV around the country. We are getting about 8-10mpg towing through mountains and foothills in 80-100 degree weather. 11-13mpg if flat land towing. Unhooked, about 14mpg around town. 15-16mpg at 65mph highway driving (RPM at about 1900). This truck is amazing, hasn't let us down. Coming from a 5.7 Tundra, it gets better MPG in every scenario.

Iv'e owned Ford trucks since 1973. My last three have had the camper package and snow plow package. That combo makes it a one ton. the camper package comes with overload springs and a rear sway bar. The rear sway bar solves much of the sway problem you noted. Road noise from the tires can be solved by ordering the fender liners. Most all of the " problems " can be solved by knowing the options.

Cool Comparison,I love my Ram 6.4 but I would love to try the Ford 7.3 gasser,my Ram has more than enough power for what I tow but you know we’re always looking for that extra power just to have it lol I think I mentioned to you that I had a Ford F-250 rental with I think the 6.2 and 6spd trans and while the trans was pretty smooth I had to really step on it to get up those hills where my Ram pulls it without any effort it seems not to mention the ride in the Ram is much more comfortable and I’m comparing a Ram 2500 Laramie to a Ford F-250 King Ranch so the coils definitely make a difference compared to the leafs but that’s just my opinion.Great Video as usual!!

A realistic mpg comparison would be, motors at operating temp, reset mpg at an on ramp and run 65 mph for 100 miles. Short run mpg ratings aren't accurate. Better yet run a full tank of fuel at 65 mph after truck is broke in and has a fee oil changes ran through it.

I am looking for a 2500 gas to do my towing as I don't think diesel engines will come down. JB out of the big 3 Chevy, Ram, Ford which gas model 2500 feels most equipped? Thanks for the comparison. Two things. When comparing fuel mileage I have found when you have similar vehicles (3/4 ton pickup weighing in at 7000 pounds) it don’t matter what engine (same fuel) transmission or gear ratio. They will be very close. It takes a certain amount of energy to move that vehicle. And second the coil springs over the leaf springs. Coil give you a smoother ride for sure. Leaf springs however carry the weight better. That is the truck handles better when fully loaded. You looking for a smooth comfortable ride like a Cadillac you want coils. Then buy a Cadillac 😊. You going to haul loads that weigh a bit you want leaf springs. Buy a Ford😊.

My 2017 6.7 Powerstroke F250 is averaging 20mpg not deleted. I run a Banks tuner that only adds power above a certain throttle position. I have a Banks 5” exhaust, Banks cold air intake, and a Banks rear diff cover. Non of those upgrades have improved or reduced mpg under normal driving but while towing I’m getting 10-12 mpg towing an 8000 lbs camper. A 7.3 gas getting 14 mpg, I couldn’t imagine how crappy it would get towing my camper.

One thing Ford learned from their European operations in the 80's and migrated to all their products starting with the Taurus is attention to subtle details that improve the owner experience like tactile feel and click sounds of buttons and switches. For example, the sound and cadence of of the Ford's turn signal is more pleasant than other trucks IMO. It also doesn't cancel in mid flash, it completes the flash then stops even if the lever auto cancels after the turn. The signal in the Ram sounds more tinny. You don't notice things like that until you drive something else. It's a very small detail that when you put it all together makes the user experience better.

Okay full disclosure, I'm the guy that bought the RAM instead.... Since then I sold it. It drove great empty with decent mileage. But man, pulling my 12,000 pound fifth wheel the hemi was HORRIBLE. I got 5.5 mpg. Actually ran out of gas double towing across TX. With the tiny tank on the RAM I could barely go 150 miles and would have to stop and fill up. Then having to use stupid special 0w-40 oil at 10 bucks a quart because the hemi has common lifter failures just drove me crazy. I still like their interior the best and that zf 8 speed but now I'm looking at GMC 6.6 gas or Ford's Godzilla. I test drove another Godzilla and the 10 speed shifted WAY better now. I think they got the bugs worked out of it! Ram needs to update the hemi engines bad.

What I gathered from this video: if you want a comfortable grocery getter and date night truck buy a Ram. If you want a real motor that can tow a house buy a Ford. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Seriously though Imho Ram has the better interior and better ride but their electronics (and the non German transmission) are notoriously bad. Ford seems to have the better “real” truck that might not be as refined as the Ram but generally you know it will get the job done no matter what you throw at it.

I really appreciate your approach in comparing different vehicles. I love Ford products, but there are a FEW THINGS that Ram does better. On a side note, I work for Morton Salt, and Ford's use of aluminum body panels is a God send, for those of us who encounter a lot of exposure to salt.

Ram definitely has a nicer interior but one thing to consider is if you live in the rust belt the Ford body will long outlast the Ram.

Maybe the older Rams but it's about the same with the newer models . I see about the same here in WV . But a lot of that depends on how well you take care of any brand .

That’s just an old stereotype, new rams don’t really have a issue with rusting, meanwhile the new ford body style people are reporting them to be rusting already.

Thanks for posting this video I’m looking at a heavy duty truck but don’t want to deal with the maintenance issues and repair costs of a diesel, but I still want something that will consistently tow 15k plus. I really like the interior of the Ram but the 6.4 just can’t touch the power of the 7.3 in the Ford.

I like the tread pattern of the Goodyears on the Ford, it’s more aggressive. Not sure why Ram chose the Firestone “Transport”. It looks like a a highway/towing/MPG tire, but Firestone does offer more competitive tires to the Goodyear that was on the F250. It’s interesting how manufacturers price their trucks and what they offer at each price point, tires included.. Ram seems like it isn’t packaged to be a work truck with those tires and the coil suspension. The F250 has the thick leaf springs and aggressive tires (along with the strong gearing) makes it a better tow rig. I know each one can be configured per customer needs, but these are the first things I thought of.

Did the Ford have the Tremor Package or the FX4 upgrade? The first supposedly had the better suspension like the Ram runs in their off road package.

Just as an FYI.... My 22' F350XLT 7.3L, 3:73 rear 10spd with only 5k miles on the clock got 17.5 mpg on a 400 mile frwy run empty; ~13 around town & 10.3 ave on a 4k trip towing a 7400 tt. I was going to order a F250 but they do not come with a 3:73 with the 7.3L. The 3:55 or 4:30 are the only options. The F350 7.3L has 3:73 or 4:30 options. No issues towing over hills & mtns. The 10 spd tranny is as smooth as silk. At times it feels like a CVT. Since the Ram was $10k more you could have moved up to a F250 Lariat for ~$6k over the XLT and had a better comp. and still add another $4k in more options if you wanted.. I found the coil rear nice when empty but preferred the leaf's when under load or towing. In the end; 1-2 mpg's for buying a 3/4 or 1T truck should be pretty low on the priority list. These are built to work. A small Honda or Toyota car won't tow or take the load of these but will get great mpg's. Two different tools.

JB - Two things: First, I just completed a purely scientific MPG test on my F250 7.3. I had to take it in to the dealership to get the cat converter replaced, thanks to a thief. You would not believe the mileage I got while the truck was in the shop!!! Yes, better than any EV... I know it is hard to believe that a big gas engine did so well, but it did!! Second, I'm beginning to think that you may just be a closet Godzilla fan. Great video, Sir.

I'm on the fence between Ram and Ford myself (gasser) but am waiting another 2-3 years to see if Cummins is going to unleash the agnostic fuel 6.7 into the market. I'd be tempted to see what that block will do, as I think the 6.4 needs a marginal bump.

The XLT/Big Horn do compete in the same category however RAM allows for more available options, if you knock off night edition/BH level B?/12 inch display, the price would be more in line with the Ford. These options are not available at all on the Ford 👍🏾

I got the 7.3 Tremor in its 1st year(2020). Was very excited about big bore power in a small block high rpm capable engine. Best part? It has no engine nannies like cylinder deactivation which will undoubtedly rear its ugly head in the long run. Another huge perk is the 7.3 produces 90% of its 475 lb ft at 1100 rpm. Thats just off idle... add the 4.30s and you got a tractor that breathes real well up high too. No DEF, no destructive emmissions, no 10k upcharge, much cheaper maintenaince and much lower cost of fuel compared to the diesel. Also if you look up the comparable cummins and duramax it beats it out in gross towing. Not much. About 2,000 lbs. But thats saying some thing.

This is exactly why I just ordered a 2023 F350 XLT long bed crew cab srw with the 7.3 gasser to replace my 2022 RAM 3500 with the Cummins. The new diesels are just one big expensive headache. Between the fuel costs, maintenance costs, and emissions BS, I’ll take the small hit on MPG’s and downshifting a bit more on the hills while towing.

I am a ford guy 100% more of a work truck and don't squat as much when hauling cus of the leaf springs to the coil overs. But if not towing or working the truck and looking for something sporty and rides nice then go ram. But if your gonna work it hard go ford... and as for the mpg test. These numbers are not accurate... you can't do a mpg test only driving 10 miles. You will not get an accurate reading... you need to go through at least a full tank of gas/fuel to get near the average mpg. It just changes to much in that short of distance.. when your saying your getting 14.7 or what ever number it is and you only drove 10 miles. That's just not how you get an accurate number. Need to go through a full tank of gas or fuel... and anyone that owns or has owned a dodge should know that mds crap does not work to save dodges life. Or Ram what ever you want to call it... they should just get rid of it completely.... that drop cylinder crap is BS... never seen a gas mpg savings there....

The sensitive brakes have been a Ford thing for as long as I can remember. They were the opposite of GM where the brake pedal went at least half way down before they started grabbing, and that was a GM thing for many years.

The ZF transmission is probably one of the best transmission companies out there. I really wish they'd put one behind a cummins. It would solve alot of issues. I put transforce tired on my duramax. Goodness what a terrible idea. It was like 1500$ for a stock size tire, that is around 40% tread at 25k miles. Nitto or Toyo is definitely the way to go. Just my opinion

JB, interesting comparison, especially since I'm trying to decide between 2024 versions of these vehicles/engines. One concern is that mpg comparison over such a short course is probably useless as minor differences in driving style could cause errors. Also, after owning many CDRJ vehicles and comparing mpg reading from the trip computer with my driver log calculated mpg, the CJRD instrument reading is always unreliable, often by 5-10%, and almost always read higher mpg than true mpg. I don't have any experience with Ford mpg accuracy, so can't comment on the F-250 mpg.

I would have to take the Ford 7.3 big block. It’s hard to beat a big block like the old Ford 460ci they are hard on fuel but they could pull and had toque. I am a Chevy guy I have a 2004 Chevy 3500 4.10 gears with a gas 8.1 it’s a 496 in cubic inches , 5 speed Allison transmission. 262,000 miles and still running strong. Because of my experience with my big block Chevy, I think the Ford 7.3 be a close comparison. My 8.1 is awesome when pulling. I will never sell it. Just did front end work and new heavy duty shocks. Now if they were talking about Diesel engine I would take a Cummins Dodge over a Ford Powerstroke. I also have a 2001 Chevy 2500HD Duramax 92,000 miles
