@_aandrxw_ there is not a way to go back to the beginning of the song or the previous song directly from the flip 5

It is not required but in order to do software updates and adjust EQ settings you will have to have the app.

Worst investment not loud enough less than 3hrs playing time

I mean, it's loud enough depending on what you're using it for. If you're using it outside to fill up the patio or something that no it's not... Also, if you listen to the music at a high volume, than your battery dies faster. Sounds like you are wanting a speaker for outdoors for a party... Battery life is dependent on usage and volume.
