My former world champ the Soundcore Motion Plus can still offer great clarity.

£50 champion:
Great bass for its size, Soundcore Boost: geni.us/soundcoreboost
Hi End Picks
Minirig mk3 2.2 system: geni.us/minirigmk3

Bose Soundlink Micro (warm): geni.us/bosesoundlinkmicro
Tribit Stormbox Micxro (clinical): geni.us/tribitstormboxmicro
Worth a Look:
W-King T9: geni.us/wkingt9
The T9 is a reasonably loud and balanced party speaker with a big bright detailed sound.
Budget Loud Boombox: no clear winner but my pick for fun outside listen would be:
W-King X10 geni.us/wkingx10
Travel Speakers:
Marshall Stockwell 2: geni.us/stockwell2
offers a decent immersive sound with full and tight bass. Beware though it does go very loud
JBL Charge 5: geni.us/jblcharge5
Only mono but has a very clear and dynamic sound at low volumes and can go reasonably loud but will become a little screechy over 80%.

The MINIRIGs had another recent software update that made the Bluetooth connection much more consistent and made the bass noticeably deeper. Also the app has a setting for a 2.1 system vs a 2.2. In other words, you have the option for a single sub to play both left and right channels, or for two subs to play them separately. I only have 2 MINIRIGs and no sub yet tho, so I can’t attest to how it actually sound.

Hey Alan :D been a long while since i commented. Glad to see you're still doing these awesome videos of yours. I really feel like your production quality kicked up pretty high since the last time i saw your Motion Boom vids, i'm impressed. And yet you still got that accent, that charm and humor, that energy and passion, that sense of detail, those gaming / hot chicks wallpapers during Sound comparisons and i really dig your main shot now, it's so colorful with all those lights and backgrounds. What camera are you using now? It looks so much smoother than before. Is the Motion Boom still the big boy in the ring? 😄 Keep it up, cheers ♥️

I've been listening to my minirigs 2:2 subs all afternoon. Never have problems getting stereo. Codecs does make a difference, aptx gives a much better stereo sound with less compression. Almost no different from wired connection. Alan, as your comparing to JBL, I have a couple of Harman kardon onyx studio 7s that sound incredible when paired in stereo. Found out that you can input through the aux and still pair through Bluetooth in stereo too. Almost feel like sending you one to test in stereo with yours. Or if you can acquire another closer to home, worth a comparison video just because it's so fckn awesome!

Hey Alan, thanks for all the great videos! I love your content! I ended up buying 2x W-king x10-1 so I can party by the beach on a budget but I feel a bit let down by the bass. I was wondering if adding a Minirig sub 3 would help. I saw your video where you connected the sub to a soundcore motion speaker and I've seen a video where Oluv connects the minirig sub to some smaller speakers but never something larger like a jbl extremely priced 3 or a w-king x10 class speaker. A recommendation would be great and a video showing the minirig sub or even 2x minirig subs connected to various speakers and the effect it has would be even AMAZING! Keep up the great work!
@louster35
@louster35 2 жыл бұрын
I've been wondering the same thing! I'm a bass head! How does the sub sound with the more powerful speakers? How does it sound with the speakers that already have a decent low range? Does it compliment them? There isn't a single review testing the minirig sub (or multiple subs) as is on various speakers that aren't made by minirig. Would be an awesome video!
@alanrossreviews
@alanrossreviews 2 жыл бұрын
trouble is the sub is tuned specifically for the minirig mk3 so speaker matching is hit and miss. also its not too practical in the real world since you either need to use it wired or with a bluetooth receiver plugged into one of its jacks. the other line out then feeds your main speaker. the motion plus just happens to gel well. bigger speakers would be different as the sub would be more subtle.
@louster35
@louster35 2 жыл бұрын

If you can be arsed with the app, minirigs and subs are quite adaptable. At lower volumes I tend to lower the minirigs and increase the subs. Also third party equaliser helps with bass and adds a bit of reverb, giving a 'warmer' sound that you like.

i hope the mk4 of the sub whenever it hits favours depth over punch. it doesnt seem the way with minirig or give us gain control on the sub itself would be nice. they havent really pushed what they could do with a dedicated sub.

The mids and upper mids are where the ear is most sensitive. Not the highest highs and not in the lowest bass. Most modern music is overcompressed and has very little Dynamic Range. More Dynamic (usualy but not only , older music) will sound less loud than any modern hypercrushed production and mastering when the Volume of any speaker is set to a fixed Value. As to the "how things are being mixed" Example modern Rap music. Everything is loud. The Vox, Bass, Highs, Mids, Melodies etc. On Older (one example) Soul music the mix is many or most times letting the vocal being the main star and then building the mix around the vocal. In a nutshell thats about what i wanted to add.
@alanrossreviews
@alanrossreviews 2 жыл бұрын
cheers! though i dont agree on a lot of this. modern standards requiring mastering to a certain lufs level means you can have more dynamic range. older recordings mastered to vinyl favoured loudness over dynamic range. generalisation of course.
@saardean4481
@saardean4481 2 жыл бұрын
@@alanrossreviews what "you can have" (in this case dynamic range) does not mean that the majority uses it. Quite the opposite. We have the biggest dynamic range in history possible and available and yet the vast majority of music does not make use of it. Maybe (some) classical music and "traditional" genres such as Jazz tend to use more dynamic range. But take the "top 50" of the average popular music and you will see that the used dynamic range is lightyears away from what is possible , meaning A LOT less from what would be possible with modern recording and production means. There is a lot of DnB music that has a dynamic range of less than -3 lufs , Trap,,, the same, Pop anything from -3 to -10 lufs etc etc. Some streaming editions have around -12 to -15 lufs. That is still pretty compressed "loud. Not only Vinyl was where engineers tried to cut "hotter-louder". Cd got even further as it allows more abuse. You can have heavily stereoized sub bass, insanely harsh and loud highs, which you cant cut on vinyl cause of mechanical restrictions. There has been a sligh change in direction in recent years to bring some dynamic range back but it is still VERY loud out there. You don`t have to take my word on it. Just take a look in numbers and see for yourself. Numbers don`t lie. You don`t have to agree with me. It`s just a discussion. Cheers! dr.loudness-war.info/ Oh and of course thank oyu for taking the time for your reviews. I enjoy them a lot

@@alanrossreviews not balanced enough. I'm spoilt by my Shure headphones and my main hifi system, which has more of a BBC monitor balance. The minirigs were impressive but not great in the midrange.

50% mk3 stereo, but 80/100% JBL for me...

At 80% volume, the jbl is a mess! It's a shame the Minirigs weren't a few inches taller with a base radiator...because clarity wise you can't knock them. The base is just lacking hence that missing bass warmth we all love again, some brutal EQ adjusent can fix this. For the rigs, its all about a 2.1 set-up. The Minirig 1.1 set up certainly has the bass but then I feel the clarity of the stereo pair is missing🤔 Great content once again!! 👍🙂

yes its a choice of stereo openess and detail or the warmer sound the sub gives you, it only really comes into it as you push the volume really, at lower volumes the sub does very little
