Petzl Reactik+ Headtorch likes and dislikes - why put bluetooth on a headtorch ?

I like headtorches a bit too much, my current favourite is the Petzl Zipka (available with headband as the Tikka), but ever since I saw this Reactik+ released with its £100 RRP and bluetooth/Smartphone App I couldn't resist finding out what is so special to spend this much on a headtorch.
Having tried it the bluetooth is a gimmick, and way too complicated and the app is unusable on Android, and not great on Apple but being able to customise profiles is nice, and Reactik+ is brighter at 300lumens compared with the non-Bluetooth Reactik at 220 lumens and only about £12 cheaper, so I went for the top model, just so I didn't end up buying both ;)
If I could only have one headtorch though, it would still be a Zipka+Core for compactness/value, but if I could have 3 I'd definitely have a Reactik or Reactik+ as one of them ;) (Sadly I have 12 working headtorches I can find, probably a couple more hidden somewhere, so this is not a realistic scenario for me ;)
Thanks for watching, and please comment below how many headtorches you have, and what your favourite is!

Funny to hear that about profiles because for me only way to go is from dimmest to brightnest. Funny part with these batteries is that after few years Petzl will change the type/size of the battery and you have to buy new light and new batteries because you can't get those old ones anymore.

And petzl will charge the earth for said battery's (nao £60 but has Panasonic 18650b cell which is low capacity 2900mah and costs £5.99 retail they then bung on £2 of circuit board so it won't recognise a non petzl power pack. I just brought a nitecore HU60 has Bluetooth remote and flood spot adjustable and it runs on any usb power pack ( Anker etc puts out 1600lm if pack does 3a out) it outclasses the nao in everyway apart from the reactive feature ( my reactive + petzl is plastic junk to be far and heavy for output and runtimes) I wouldnt bother buying another petzl

Hello James, is Zipka angle adjustable? I'm torn between Zipka and Reactic. I can buy them both in the same price range (both with rechargable battery). I really like Zipka's string but Reactik has that auto feature. The best buy would be Zipka with auto dimming feature :D.

Hi Adrian, No the zipka has no angle adjustment, its super minimalist so its main advantage is compactness and flexibility as you can use string on arm/handlebars/tree etc really easily. I personally think the reactive dimming is fantastic and well worth the extra size of the proper strap (and is angle adjustable) so I'd suggest you go for the Reactik over the zipka/core at same price. The core rechargable pack for the zipka is just not worth the money, as AAA's last for ages on the lower power headtorches anyway. I have just today received the Swift RL which is the 900 lumens reactive headtorch, which I'm looking forward to trying out. The Reactik+ is the one I use most at home, as the reactive dimming is just so great, so I suspect I'll switch to the Swift RL as the first one I grab now. I also ordered the Actik 350 lumen torch to use with the Core battery I already have - although I didn't realise when I ordered that the Actik Core is 450 lumens (not 100% sure if this is just down to core battery, or if the headtorch is actually different). Hope that's useful info.

@@jamesb72 Thank you James for your reply. In reactik with bluetooth can I set any lumens output? Is it possible to set range as well? How many stages can I set? I think that I would go for reactik+ because I can get it for £37 300 lumens version brand new. However my main purpose is to use it during fireworks show preparation that's why I thought Zipka would be enough for that.

@@AdrianKruger19 Reactik+ with bluetooth for £37 is a fantastic bargain, so I'd just get that - with the app/bluetooth you can set output in 2/3/4 steps to whatever lumens you want, but can only have dimmest to brightest order (I'd prefer brightest first) - I just have two steps set I think 70% and Max and that works fine for me, and I normally only use the first step. With the reactive dimming I think it would be perfect for fireworks prep as I imagine its a mix of closeup work and walking around so autodim would be great for that - and you can switch to red light if needed.

Petzl is garbage! Never had one last all of them broke! Moved on buy a nitecore ,skilhunt, zebralight or armytek way way better for in some cases way less money ( skilhunt hs3 can be got for £25 and puts out 1200lm and is made way better) tried a nao but petzl charge £60 for a spare battery ( of small capacity) which can be brought for £5.99 they then make it proprietary so you have to buy theirs no thanks! Have alot of headlights (12 in total) and the petzls are far and away the worst, poor plastic construction, small hard to press buttons, ugly beam patterns, ugly led tints ,poor outputs and runtimes. In this day in age either buy a armytek or zebralight that runs on one aa battery or get some li ion 18650s and walk into the 21st century ( say no to non replaceable battery packs there's no excuse) way better runtimes alloy construction and better led tints and beams. Just for context my 6 year old nitecore hc50 has higher outputs longer runtimes and has outlasted 3 petzls ( with massive useage including an ultra race in Alaska in winter is -25oc)
