Petzl Core Rechargable battery comparison with AAAs for Headtorch Zipka Tikka etc

I like headtorches a bit too much, my current favourite is the Petzl Zipka (available with headband as the Tikka), but as the Petzl Core Rechargable battery is more expensive than this headtorch, I was never sure if it was worth the money.
Having compared these, the Core is slightly brighter than fresh AAA's, but after an hour retains 50% brightness, compared with 30% for AAA's, and you can plug in and recharge easily, rather than either starting with used AAA or changing them before they have run out.
For me I think this makes the Core a good upgrade, however for only about £10 more than Zipka+Core you can get the Reactik rechargable which is brighter, and has the light sensitive mode so that complicates things a bit more ;)

Thanks for the review, 1 question, how long does this rechargeable core battery lasts? I think regular batteries can last 5 hours NP before the lamp is dead

@Mark Dane thanks. I actually bought it. I never use the max setting, but in medium setting it lasts around 6h, in low setting no idea, like forever lol. Only downside is that it takes a long time to recharge, with a fast charger maybe 3h. Cheers

I use 1000mah nimh and at 100 lumens change them at 2hrs run time so that's frequent.

Think of the money you will save on AAA batteries using the core Rechargable .AAA Rechargable batteries are not a option. why? They take 8 hrs to charge and go dim after about a hour. So i use a Petzl Actik and 2 spare core batteries with a 20000mAh power bank for recharging and that puts a end to any light fucking problems i might encounter!!.

NIMH AAAs are usually 800-850mAh at most and 1.2V , as far as I know. I am not sure if they are configured in parallel or series but probably in series to get the 3.6V for the LED forward Voltage. NIMHs have terrible/low discharge rate , long charge time and low capacity and lower Voltage than alkaline (1.5V). Lithium is the way to go for high drain/discharge situations LiPO weighs less, more capacity , higher Voltage , low temperatures can be a issue , can be charged from powerbank or solar and no more junk batteries. The Petzl Swift battery has around 300 cycles lifetime according to their website. . That means 300 x (3xAAA alk. batteries) = tell me it is not worth it
