A wise decision in my opinion. Barn work the skidsteer is a no brainer. I wonder if the telehandler would be more beneficial during harvest, but bottom line the numbers have to work. Been an interesting mini series. Top content mate 👌

A skid steer fits your farm so well, i couldnt imagine that you get a telehandler. Maybe a Skid steer with a telescopic boom 😉 Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the in depth and informative review. Many farms in Europe like to use articulated wheelloaders, some also have a telesoping boom. Skidsteer loaders are often seen as just too small, or they can´t reach over the top of medium size feedmixers.

We just made the jump from a loader tractor to a New Holland Ls180. One of the best decisions we've made. Thinking to the future, no one on the farm is getting younger so the side entry would be worth its weight in gold and our barn lots are relatively open. I thought the way forward would be a smaller wheel loader. Thanks to your videos, starting to flirt with the idea of a telehandler. Great review and operating videos.

We prefer the telescop because we store balles over the cows and have a BGA and therefore its better. Also we can stack the balles higher on the field for bringing them home. And we have only small silos and had to store a lot of grain in halls. Hope my English is quite understandeble Jakob

I've been watching your videos while you've been trying the telehandlers and noticed how rarely you chose to used the JCB. I thought you were angling towards a Manitou recommendation. In the end, I was impressed that you highlighted the Kubota rather than the shiny new Maintou based upon your specific needs and included a cost comparison. Thanks and good work!

Telehandlers are awesome for certain jobs on the farm but don't have much use in tight barns. I'm European and from Denmark. We don't use a lot of telehandlers for farm work. Tractors with front end loaders and medium sized payloaders are more common. As for skid steers there's even less. They are mainly used in construction. Most farms use small pivot steering loaders that have 45-60 hp for the jobs where most of you in North America use skid steers. weidemann and schäffer being the most used brands. But i do see the the advantages of a skid steer. But i can't imagine stepping in and out of them 20 times a day. It just look very inconvenient and the ride seems rough. Thank you for the comparison. :)

Very honest review I think, and after we bought a medium sized wheel loader, I agree they both have their place on the farm. We gained efficiency and sped up jobs with the wheel loader, but still easily put over 5-600 hours on a skidsteer.

Awesome review, thanks very much for sharing. On our dairy farm in Italy we have always used telehandlers (currently we run three Merlo's), as you pointed out the biggest advantage of these machines is versatility, if you start using them you will soon find yourself buying and building an incredible amount of accessories for the craziest jobs! We have a concrete mixer bucket, like 5 different sets of forks, buckets of all sizes, a platform for jobs at height, 3 different hooks, a straw blower and so on... Awesome machines. But I totally get the in-barn capacities of a skeedsteer!

30 years of equipment maintenance tells me you did a good review on your uses. as for maintenance the CAT seems to hold up better than most of the others over time. I you have room for them they are a nice tool but in tight spaces you're right the skid steer is far better, you are spot on with the maintenance they are more maintenance. Great video Eric! The review information is golden and highly valued. I think the small amount of money paid to dairy farms for the milk produced drives decisions like this. It would be nice to have both but you aren't being paid as much as you deserve for your product. You can't raise the price of milk. Limited rental of a telehandler for specific jobs might be a solution when it saves time and increases productivity. Otherwise - stick with what works. Enjoyed hearing your views. Well done!

Ohh. I don't use/ know how to use any of these machines. Price is the bottom line of course for any addition to rolling stock( skid steer, tractor, " tele-handler, hearse, limo, utility vehicle, etc.) but as one looking in from outside, Manitou rocks the house! Can't see past the dune buggy vibe or utility ( silly me) issues. Any way I won't be driving a Manitou around Nashville... but I still would love to play with one. Thanks Eric and thank you sincerely for allowing me to hang out with you and yours. God bless

I have two of the same skids steers and a manitou 634 we have had many issues with the manitou at where the flywheel connects to the hydraulic pump great machines but they do have there place we are currently in the transition of loading feed with a wheel loader as our mixer is to tall for the kubotas to load 👎🏻 great video! Good Review. Watching you with the JCB and the Manitou, it may have been your comfort level but it may have been the actual feel and ability of the Manitou to do things for you that made me see you like the Manitou better for doing things. Like all new pieces of equipment there are pros and cons to each one. The big item is the cost. You REALLY have to see some "significant advantages" to the telehandlers in order to step up with their pricing. Now you are biased because you have been doing the skid steer so long and the comfort level you have with it but it does get into really tight spots that neither telehandler could do. I think you were pretty fair with all three but the cup holder sealed the deal! I can't believe the telehandlers did not think of a cup holder. There you have it, you looked at "ALL" factors and the cup holder and the price differential were the deal breaker. The one item to consider is your age and condition you and your Dad are in. Right now you are young, nimble, and fit and your Dad is not as young, pretty darn nimble still and very fit. As your Dad ages he may start noticing getting in and out of that skid steer is a bit more difficult and a bit more risky when you have to crawl over the bucket. I have a skid steer and at 73 I know it is a bit more difficult to get in and out of than it was 5 years ago. Just sayin'....... Pretty "fair" Review overall. Would like to have heard what your Dad thought of the telehandlers.
@mikeschaefer95162 жыл бұрын
Can almost guarantee the telehandler manufactures will consider a cup holder on the next cab revision!

You're review of the telehandlers verses the skid steer was spot on from what we saw in your earlier videos. What do you have planned for your next equipment demo? Is there a Fendt dealer close by? When a machine cost twice the price of another, it needs to be about 3 times more efficient. Sounds like the skid loader is a much better option for your operation. Great comp. video!!
@1inyourhearts8662 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure there are many machines one could upgrade to within a price range that will ever achieve 3x efficiency, quite frankly even going from a skid loader to a compact to mid size Agri wheel loader wouldn't multiply efficiency by that much and probably not even 2x (this scenario is assuming money isn't a deciding factor)
@alecfromminnenowhere20892 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the assessment of the JCB and the Manitou. I was wondering about the tight spaces that the telehandlers would have trouble negotiating. I think that a good match would be the Manitou with your Kubota someday like you said.
@warehouseman63252 жыл бұрын
The Manitou definatly be my choice. Looks easier to maneuver over the JCB. The JCB looks more structural solid but looks more difficult in typical farming areas

Great analysis and I agree in your operation a skid steer seems better for most of your daily task.
@ArmpitStudios2 жыл бұрын
I’m surprised they telehandlers are so popular in the UK, what with their tiny barns and dumping grain on the floor for storage. Cleaning those out with a skidsteer would be so much easier. Anybody else remember when we all called them “uniloaders”? I still prefer that term. The only really good use for telehandlers is landscaping or other construction work around existing homes, where they don’t tear up the lawn nearly as much as a uniloader does. Hire someone to do a little work around your house in the US and you’ll end up with a ruined yard for the next year while you get it back into shape.
@jasonhieronimus41422 жыл бұрын

Totally agree with your opinion on the telehandler on and skid steer as we run a bobcat s70 jcb agri pro and a manitou 625 but over time the manitou 625 will lose lifting capacity and the jcb will give add blue Errors but all in all a telehandler is a better option then the skid steer so I highly recommend a jcb telehandler as it’s lasted the longest in my and neighbouring farms and good seller over in the uk and are very well built

By the way, excellent comparison for those who knows very little about these machines!
