Attendees were able to network with industry leaders from local nurseries, plant retail centers, landscaping companies, parks and recreation districts, tissue culture labs, government agencies and other green industry businesses.
JCCC offers a horticultural sciences associate's degree that transfers to Kansas State University, horticultural certificate, landscape technician certificate, sustainable agriculture certificate and entrepreneurship certificates in horticultural sciences and landscape technician.

Love learning more and more everyday! It’s crazy that trees communicate with each other through all the vast underground microbial life. Most of the beneficial bacteria that is now sold on store shelves, is still in forested areas. We gardeners have to reintroduce them into our gardens as most residential areas the earth/soil has been stripped of all life. This guy has so much knowledge!

Thank you Dr Whitcomb for your work at OSU, KSU, and Iowa State in research, education and extension for the benefit of farmers who work large and small plots of land. You present many very useful ideas to those of us who wish to grow plants.

It seems so obvious, yet its taken centuries to do something about it. This is a great example of the importance of re-examining everything.

It isn't that it's taken centuries. Plants can be grown in standard pots and potted up into increasingly larger pots as the roots grow, resulting in a healthy root system that was never constricted

always found if I went with a new clone early and it had say one or 2 roots showing out the bottom the roots develop worse than if I was to leave the clones in the propagator restricting that main tap root it throws a ton of side shoots out that are much stronger and bigger, then when you go to the DWC pot its free to spread in so many more directions, try it, 3 more days in the propagator, a dash of humic acid and you watch, just keep it wet enough to stay alive, dont worry about yellowing it will come right, deplete those reserves, thats why it stores them in the leaf

Yes, but would need drain holes. Air pots have funnel shaped holes to guide the root tip out of the hole

flowers, fruits, leaves, stems, roots - prioritization by plants of their energies - a plant under stress will give up giving the roots energy first, or sacrifice the roots first is another way to put it. flowers and fruits are reproductive which is the strongest instinct of the plant or animal...

Make a white colored (glazed) terracotta air pruning pot. I just use cheap round laundry baskets. Invert one, cover with weed block or better yet window screen. Place another inverted one over that, flip right side up, trim excess. I then place it (filled with potting mix) in a new oil drain pan. Plant something. Water from below (holds about 1 gal of water or so). You get loads of benefits but it does use more water. Benefits - air pruning, lots more oxygen to the roots, cooler soil, etc) Heat is still an issue but not nearly as bad as those plastic pots. As the soil heats, water evaporates and cools the soil. Think swamp cooler method of air conditioning in a way. Of course this works for smaller plants, not large trees. But it can be used to start trees and bushes. I use mine for bush beans, zucchini, summer squash, tomatoes, carrots, etc. Corn is too top heavy and won't work in that setup. I have 20 gal (80L) grow bags that do not work as well as the simple laundry basket setup I described above. If you decide to use window screen, best is copper. Plastic is ok but doesn't last very long.

Ugh plant care is so controversial and contradictory online. I grow rare indoor aroids like Philodendron, Anthurium, Syngonium, Hoya... And I hear so many people saying that they LOVE being pot bound and they grow better that way. Which one is it?

.......IMHO: I'm NOT a big fan of planting too many "ALIEN/NON-NATIVE" species!!!... We ought to try to repair OUR Damaged "LOCAL Ecology", and work hard to PROTECT, PRESERVE, and RESTORE the Local "genotypes"!!! "Cultivars" ARE NOT NATIVE!!!

Unfortunately, some native species will survive only as cultivars: the native chestnut and the native elm can't survive in an environment where alien blights are now endemic. The choice is either cultivars / GMOs or nothing.
