3rd Hokage overlooked Danzo's assassination attempt on him just so that he won't have to do all of this stuff. He is the shadow that protects within. Reason he wanted to become hokage is the same reason why he didn't like Tsunade; according to him, she would follow after her master instead her grandfather. He lacked in him to kill his student, even tho he was a potential risk to the village. And no, Danzo working with the Oruchimaru is not a contradiction.Its same as Obito letting Itachi be the part of the Akatsuki for the temporary gains. It's a part of the politics.

Well, there was no other way of doing things. Despite their conflicts and rivalry, Hiruzen understood right away that he would need someone like Danzo. He would normally do the "dirty work" and handle with that "black ops" of the Hidden Leaf. Hiruzen was too weak/pure hearted of a shinobi, therefore Danzo stood by his side (more or less, rofl) to prevent minor conflicts from becoming major by straight elimination, all for the sake of the Hidden Leaf Village.

@@code6297 That is what he claimed his intentions were but that is not what his actions showed. If he was doing it for the leaf, why did he collaborate with orochimaru with human experiments. Why did he have yahiko killed if he was trying to achieve peace in his village and prevent wars from taking place there. He was someone who abused his power as an elder in the leaf to dominate the shinobi world. To me his ambition was to be Hokage not someone who supported the leaf. True but simplistic. The interesting thing about Danzo is point of view. From a viewer perspective and whole world narrative understand, he is a shady guy. But : -Danzo wants to send the Hidden Rain into turmoil because Hanzo is stronger than Konoha's next generation of shinobi, including the Sannin -Danzo didnt believe in the Uchiha, and he was right about it, so he wants to eliminate them -Danzo knew spies are usefull but are also a danger to the village. So he disposes of them. Same thing happen in real life espionage. Sad truth, but truth nethertheless. Also - Amegakure, Kumogakure and Iwagakure all went shady as well, which, from Danzo's perspective, means they were more willing than Hiruzen to do anything to win : Ame pushed the Genin into mass murderers machines without feelings (Zabuza's story) so he tries to imitates them (Sai). Kumo tried to kidnapp Hyuuga and steal the Byakugan (Ao obtained his in battle, not the same) so Danzo try to keep Konoha's secrets at all cost (Kabuto and Nono, eliminate possible sources of intel). Iwagakure hired the Akatsuki, imagine what it looked like in Danzo's eyes. So he allied with former ennemies to fragilize every "enemy" nation. Danzo fears the world. He fears that other nations will do what he thinks Hiruzen wont. And he was right about that, Hiruzen lead Konoha on a way to peace. Only the apparition of several highly skilled shinobi in their ranks prevented the ennemies of attacking for a long time, but even it did not stop SUNA from attacking them under Orochimaru's scheming and manipulation. And if you look at "key players" in many nations we are introduced, they all think like Danzo. The Tsuchikage before meeting Gaara did not give a shit about other countries, even his granddaughter thinks it would be an opportunity to backstab the others. The hidden mist prefered to stay isolated to hide the precarious situation they are in (Previous Kage being manipulated). Chiyo, Ao, the Kage... all these characers of political influence were ALL against cooperation at first. Only meeting the main characters and finding a common ennemy changed them. So Danzo was quite right in the sense that the others were really trying to bring down the Leaf. The only real issue Danzo had is that he never met Naruto and never went through talk no jutsu therapy.

To be fair (and more precisely): 1. Anime filler (never happened either in the manga or the cannon novels) 2. It was actually Tobi who was manipulating some high ranks Uchiha to incite the coup d'etat and (if things would've come to worse) Shisui would've sided with the Uchihas (all this from the Itachi novels) 3. Yeah, that's on him but arguably Kabuto wouldn't have gotten so far without Orochimaru

I mean, he had many of the "bad" (and more shinobi-like) traits for the other villages and Kages: •The utilitarianism of Rasa (Gaara's dad) •The merciless of the Mist •The seek of power of the Cloud •Various character traits like Ohnoki The difference is all that was made officially and associated with the villages themselves while Danzo did it secretly

Danzo's actions over all made the village suffer. I can't think of any examples of the Foundation doing anything positive. 95% of things they've done are in secret. In my opinion, nothing done in secret is ever really good. I can agree that the Leaf may have benefited from the Foundation. However I don't think anything they did was actually necessary. Things that we do know they've done are sabotage other villages so potential rivals aren't allowed to be threats. That doesn't strengthen the Leaf. It only sews animosity and puts a target on the Leaf's back. It may be one step forward but then two steps back.

Stop defending a scumbag like danzo with speculation. What about the people he indirectly killed by assisting in orochimaru's research? The hyuuga incident was resolved by hinata's father so I'm sure the leaf could've dealt with threats from other jonin without brainwashing children and forcing them to kill each other. His tactics were underhanded and despicable. You should watch the show again if you think anything Danzo did was actually beneficial to the leaf in the end when you consider the outcomes of all of his actions.

How is he better than fourth though? Minato never considered anyone a tool. He treated everyone well, was always at the forefront to protect the village and even ruined his own son's life just so he could defend the village in the future. He didn't let any shit happen in his tenure and even kept Danzo in check.

Orochimaru was openly truthful with all his views and goals, he didn't care what people thought about him, as public opinion is a fickle thing that has no value. Orochimaru was about the big picture, solving the problem with humans being so frail and stopping suffering. Minato was just a kind father, he did nothing to address any world problems.Orochimaru did what Hashirama did, he founded a village, he gave people a home, he as a freak, took in all freaks and people who were discarded. Orochimaru never claimed to be a good person. Anyone who claims to be a good person is an egotist, concered with self validation and peoples perceptions of them. Saying Orochimaru only cared for himself shows you don't understand him at all. He used himself as a test subject to find immortality so people wouldn't suffer the pain the shinobi world inflicts. He lost his parents, saw countless war orphans like him starve to death and die, he saw his friend Tsunade's pain of losing Dan and her brother. He brought the necklace back for her, caring about the village is the problem, thats what causes problems, thats one pebble on a mountain. Theres bigger issues then just a village, Orochimaru was big picture, not a narrow minded fool who thinks all that matters is your village and screw everyone else.
