I think I need to read both The trouble with Women and Take it as a compliment. Lovely video! Definitely agree on this sub-genre being a great way to get into non-fiction, but possibly also a good gate-way for someone to get into graphic novels/memoirs in general. A comic non-fiction I really like is March by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and and Nate Powell. I've only read the first of the three volumes but I found it both educational and powerful. An Age of License by Lucy Knisley is a travel memoir and is a lot of fun too.

A non-fiction graphic novel I read last year was Lighter Than my Shadow by Katie Green, which is a memoir about eating disorders. The art style is beautiful and it's told really well. (It also shows the sexual abuse the author suffers (not super explicitly) so obviously it's a graphic novel that deals with some heavy topics.)

I'm not sure if this counts as a nonfiction graphic novel, but it is certainly a biography. March by John Lewis is a great way to get a knowledge of the civil rights movement in the U.S. I would highly recommend it; it was also one of my first graphic novels I ever read and it still sticks with me to this day! Awesome video!!

Great video - the Suffragette looks really interesting! I agree that non-fiction graphic novels are great introduction to a new topic. I have read The Trouble With Women and I thought it was so hilarious and clever! At the minute I'm reading 'Primates' which is a non-fiction graphic novel about 3 female scientists (Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, Birute Galdikas) who were pioneers in their field. It's really excellent so far.

I've only read Lost in Translation. As you said, it's a good choice for someone who enjoys languages. I found myself smiling almost all the time through the book, sometimes because the words were very poetic and philosophical, and others because they referred to random things such as sandwiches... Apart from that, I'm interested in reading The Trouble with Women as well as Take it as a Compliment.

I've been waiting for a video like this one for so long (non-fiction graphic novels are actually my favourite kind of graphic novels)! If you enjoyed Sacco's Palestine I also highly, highly recommend his "Footnotes in Gaza" and "Safe Area Gorazde" (dealing with the Bosnian War from the 90s), they're both heartbreaking, beautifully crafted stories.

Maus (Others have mentioned it but still, it is amazing.) A Drifting Life (An autobiography of/by Yoshihiro Tatsumi about his life post WW2 and his beginning in manga. Sounds boring but is actually fantastic.) The Photographer (about a photojournalist called Didier Lefèvre, it has actual photos he took into the graphic novel, telling the story of how and why he took them.) Fun Home (described as a graphic memoir about the authors life growing up in rural Pennsylvania, it has some intense themes such as domestic abuse, sexuality, gender identity etc.) Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths (about the authors experiences as a Japanese soldier in New Guinea in WW2, being told to die instead of dishonouring his country by living when the tide of the war turned.) Vagabond (based off of a book about Miyamoto Musashi, It is a very long series, as it is based of a very long book, and some of the facts in it are debatable, but the overarching story is historical record.) A semi non-fiction one that is worth checking out is Buddha (by Osamu Tezuka about Gautama Buddha, also sounds boring but is actually fantastic.)

Interesting recommendations -- I've added "Lost in Translation" to my tbr. I do enjoy some non-fiction graphic novels. The last one that I read that was really interesting, quirky, and worthwhile was "Photobooth: A Biography" by Meags Fitzgerald. Her graphic novel will make you care about something you would normally never give a second thought to.

I read a lot of graphic memoirs, so they might be more in line with Persepolis than the others. Alison Bechdel seems like a next obvious choice. I also like Marbles by Ellen Forney, which is about art and mental health. Craig Thompson's Carnet de Voyage is also one of my favorites (but maybe just because I love everything the man does). Also very famous, The MAUS series (which is fiction/memoir/i can't even define it dealing with WWII, so I don't know if it counts). Catel does some graphic biographies, I only read Kiki and it was great, but there are others. On the graphic journalism front... anything by Guy Deslisle.

I love a good non-fiction graphic novel. I've been wanting to read Persepolis for ages, and I borrowed Palestine from my library but it was just so huge -- I was so intimidated! I'll have to read it when I have more time. I also really liked Trinity by Jonathan Fetter-Vorm, which is a graphic history of the first atomic bomb. It was a quick read for me and pretty interesting. I also really want to read Louis Riel by Chester Brown, which is about a Native Canadian guy in the 19th century. I *also* really want to read March by Jonathan Lewis, which is a graphic memoir about Lewis and his life as a figure in the civil rights movement in the States. So many novels, so little time! Lovely video. c:

I'm also a big fan of non-fiction graphic novels. I think they're a great way to introduce people to topics that they might not otherwise have taken up. I really like Sacco's stuff; if you like comic journalism/travel type novels then try Guy Delisle's Pyongyang to read about his experiences in North Korea as an animator. Depresso by Brick is another that I particularly like because it's a really honest look at how one man coped with depression and the time leading up to diagnosis. I don't know if it'd be everyone's cup of tea though. And another that I'd recommend if you haven't already read it is American Widow by Alissa Torres. It takes a really personal and sincere look at 9/11.
