Thanks for doing such a good comparison. Hot Toys is cute that’s for sure, but that’s about it. The hands and feet tho, my gawd. This is like Grogu once he beefs up a bit when training with Luke.

Great review! You always give us the straight forward talk and love that. Regarding the child. I think it’s hard to put them in the same category. If you want life like screen look then get the sideshow one. If you want to pose him for photos and play around with him then go for the hot toys one. I am going for the sideshow one as I want more accuracy and life like. I also agree that the hands on the hot toys one looks “cheap”

I'm definitely doing the Adam Savage mod to my SS Grogu - it truly does make a figure that is best of both worlds.

Hot Toys Grogu captures the cuteness of Grogu way better than the SS version. SS missed the main Point of Grogu. =D Plus the decision to making him stare up... really bad choice. Sure you can chop him up and make him poseable, but the face being in a fixed pose that isn't the cutest can't be fixed. IMO, Hot Toys for the win.

Sideshow hands down. Hot Toys looks great, but has some things I’m not too nuts about. Both are great options though.

I'm waving the Hot Toys flag, flaws and all! Obviously neither is perfect, but I'm definitely on team cute and posable.

I like the sideshow one but i love the hot toys one.

For my money, it’s the Hot Toys one. I hated those rosy cheeks on the SS one, the looking up constantly and I don’t want a statue. I want the cuteness, articulation and mouth opening aspect as it will keep it looking new and interesting over time IMO. Ears seams look fine and swapping them out is another fun reason to get the HT one for me. I like the idea of the elf on the shelve thing too thanks! I own the SS, In the long run its going to be worth something in my opinion later in years. I probably would get the hot toys one too this year just for taking it out for photography. I do know someone who took the SS one and ripped it apart so it was most "move able"

I owe the SS, I like the HT knowing he can look down and move. The feet and hands are def off compared to his head IMO. Decisions decisions 🤔 oh btw awesome video as always!

Both are good, i don't know why they made detachable ears though, would of been much better to have them bend instead so there's no seam, and the first thing i noticed on the hot toys was how big the hands are, if i was to buy one now id still go for Sideshows, just because it's more accurate all round. Either way both have their own pros and cons.

I own the sideshow version. Like it but I wish at the very least it was possible to lower his head. I have no low shelf space, so he looks like he,s looking up at the ceiling. 😭 I’m digging the hot toys version because swap out ears and mouth can open. But I’m not sure if I will buy it. Do you think they will make a new version in the future?

The ear seems are a deal breaker for me. I really like the articulation in the Hot toys but there are easy mods people can apply to the SS one to add articulation. The softer material for the Hot toys head and mouth opening feature is fantastic, wish the SS one had that. But I like the paint apps, costume paint on the SS better. It looks like a real prop puppet they'd actually use in the show as opposed to the HT which still looks a little doll-like.

So neither of them have ear hair? That's one of the first things I notice when I google Grogu images. I was trying to see which one matched the show cloak better

Have to go with hot toys for me. He just reminds me more of tbr TV show, appose to the sideshow one. Upon the hot toys release, it clearly makes it more obvious that sideshow pose isn't great. Stuck in that gaunt, looking up pose. Hot toys has it flaws, but I just prefer the overall presence. But I do agree, he need to be properly weathered and the only thing that is annoying me, is the massive hands. Needs to be in between the sideshow and hot toys somewhat. Think whatever someone picks up, it's a great buy regardless.

I’m going to stick w the sideshow. It’s way better when it comes to looking more accurate and I feel like the feet are too big on the HT one by A LOT. I’m just going to turn my Sideshow one into a posable doll if I want the articulation cause those ear seams kill the realistic look for me.

Both are good ! I have the side show one and I’m happy with it :) The Sideshow skin quality looks better than hot toys one in your video ! But Both skins are good in Someone’s video lol But their videos are using like filter so your video is winner than theirs videos

Great vid, the first one of yours I've seen. My only quibble would be that the whole argument about which is better is a bit redundant if the comparison is only between the two without any reference to the original (pics and video at least). because that's the decider on accuracy, paint and so on. Otherwise the debate will just be completely subjective and cancel itself out. Personally I'm a little concerned with HT - love the poseability but if they're using actual latex instead of say silicon or flexible plastic or whatever it'll break down after a few years. Have the HT on its way (they announced the mouth movement long after I ordered) but considering the SS if as they say the second batch toned down the cheeks...

Hmm...for me, it is neither one. I went for a Mattel basic version (the first one), put him onto a Frankensteined doll body (because of proportions), 3D-printed a pair of feet, repainted him, put magnets in his hands (he HAS to play with his shifter knob, after all), made him a new robe using parts of the Hasbro robe, put hair onto his head - and got something pretty nice IMO. I really like my version, has even posable head, shoulders, hand, hips and feet. Oh, and of course he has his necklace. Head-wise, I think the Sideshow is far better. If I had tons of money, I would get one and customize a Sideshow one.

Ideally we probably needed Sideshow quality paint apps with Hot Toys posability but that would have likely been too cost prohibitive to manufacture/buy. I like them both but probably going to pass on both and put the money towards all the new 1/6 scale releases incoming! Great video, excellent to see the side-by-side comparisons 👌🏻

After looking at screen grabs from the show and both of these figures I went with the Hot Toys one, the face is more like what we see most of the time on the show. As for the hands, both are not quite right, Sideshow has the fingers too thin and the Hot Toys has them a little too fat, but the wrist and palm should be as "fat" as the Hot Toys versions. The one I just got doesn't have the noticeable yellow splotches on the collar, so they seem to have stopped doing that. For a year I've been able to talk myself out of spending that much but finally broke down and got one.

I agree that the Sideshow version is more authentic and respectable...and worth the money.

My SS came today. LOVE IT! No way I'd pay that price for the HT one. WAY OVERPRICED for the quality.

For me, the Hot Toys version is better in general. I like the tunic from SideShow more, especially the color and the part on the neck. But if I have to choose one, the one from Hot Toys is the winner.

For anyone who feels the choice is coming down to the rosey Sideshow cheeks, that’s literally a 10 second mod with a baby wipe to mute the color. There are several YT videos to take you through the process. For me, it’s all about the detail and accuracy of the Sideshow/Legacy FX piece.

They're different enough that, between them, they should satisfy most of the fanbase. Neither is terrible, neither is perfect. The Hot Toys is cuter, but at the expense of practically being a caricature. The SS is closer to the movie puppet, which isn't shocking, considering Legacy Effects helped with it (they literally made the movie Grogu), but it cannot be posed and the face is frozen. The red cheeks on the SS are easily fixed, though, and plenty of people have punched hair onto the ears. Add some minor weathering to the fabric, and maybe add armature wire to the arms, and the SS piece improves by leaps and bounds.

They are both cute. :) Not sure if I like the HT teeth. Just be careful if you get the Hot Toys one, I have seen reviews, if you move the mouth a lot it can damage underneath his chin. A mix of both of them would be really cute. I love Adam's Side Show mod. :)

I got the sideshow version at the beginning of the year. The difference between hottoys and the early promotional images is too big. It is simply changed to another material.

the shape of eyes are different i guess.something in the looks of SS is more accurate to the series than HT and i didn't know SS was made by the same guys who made Grogu in real life.both are amazing but i vote for SS

I like the head from Hot Toys but not the body and on the Sideshow I like how they take their time to perfection the body of Grogu. How about I take the HT head off and put it on the SS.

See Legacy only had involvement in the overall design, they didn't have input on the paint. They merely provided a mould, that's it. Hot Toys had nothing to work with and still produced a masterpiece in my eyes. Sideshows downfall comes in that ridiculous upright looking position
